Fortaleza is generally considered a not-so-safe city for tourists and has one of the highest crime rates in Brazil.

I am originally from Fortaleza, but I have been living in the US for 22 years. I have lived in different parts of the country and I have always encountered the issue of homelessness. I worked as the Housing Program manager at a non-profit in Albuquerque, NM. My job was to find homes for homeless individuals and families, and provide them with financial assistance from the federal government, so that they could afford the security deposit, rent, and stay housed. When I told people back home, in Fortaleza, what I did here int he US, everyone was shocked. It is just shocking to learn that the richest country in the world cannot take care of their people, the most vulnerable, many suffering from severe mental illness, who are living in the streets. The US does not advertise this very much either, so people outside of here don't know about it. I live close to LA now, and with the rent increases around here, it is no wonder that homelessness is at its highest. And there are so many people living in their cars. To Brazilians, that is the craziest concept. How can you afford a car and not have a roof over your head? It's hard to wrap your head around it. Thanks for bringing that up.

What has happened to Brazil? I was in Brazil 20 yrs ago, albeit not in Fortaleza, but there were not this many overweight women walking around at that time. Judging from this video, the average woman in Fortaleza is fat. I would not have expected that
