I like that you’re creating content for things you like, beyond film, TV, etc. Thank you for you contribution.
I appreciate the comment to support it! The, uh, “research” for this video was the enjoyable yet
@@gregowen2022I’d love to see you and your wife discuss on implementing gaming (as well as film and other stuff) in your family.
I’m confused. Usually I agree with 100% of what you say.. but it feels like you are asking me stop playing Tears of the Kingdom
Sometimes I’m angry that my kids basically own our Switch, but then other times I feel like it’s a blessing, because both of those games are the kind that I would get 100% lost in. Plus I have a collectible problem. 900 nuts, you say? Ok, I’ll find them.
Those attacking mechanics were used previously 13 years ago on Costume Quest 1 and 2. Another awesome turn based jrpg based on Halloween.
I'm 35 and grew up with Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, FF4-10, Xenogears, etc. This game has already been on my radar, slightly, but realistically I wasn't going to find time to play it. But you've sold me. I'm getting it. Yasunori Mitsuda is my favorite game composer, full stop. You ever watched the 20th anniversary concerts for Xenogears and/or Chrono Cross? They pop up on RUclips here and there and last a short while before getting taken down. I ended up buying the blu-ray for the Xenogears concert and it's just transcendent. Highly recommend it.
I tried the demo and I stopped playing because I didn't want to ruin the game for myself by going any further. I have a lot of high hopes for the game considering all the legends who worked on it.
Fortunately, it was pretty much a combat demo, they even cut some lines from Captain Cliche. I’m excited to find out about these characters and the whole story!
@@gregowen2022 I probably want it to be something it'll never be a little too much which is a Chrono Trigger spiritual successor and that'll just lead to disappointment.
@angrygnome4304 I think Chrono Cross is on sale on Playstation which I need to buy and play again. That same expectation ruined that game for me as a kid. I wanted Chrono Trigger part 2!
Want to thank you for making this video. I love Chrono Trigger to death, and I'm a fan of JRPGs. But, i had no idea about this game. Anyway, I played the demo and immediately bought the game. Having a blast!
You had me at "Yasunori Mitsuda.'
NOW TAKE MY MONEY!
I'm a huge fan of SNES JRPGs and I'm excited for this one and the Star Ocean remaster. The recent remaster I played was Live-A-Live which was so beautifully done if you haven't played it.
I only watched your velma video and some others a while ago. Searching for sea of stars and seing this show up, easily 2x respect 😉👏
Don't typically comment, but feel compelled to give a thumbs up with you for this game. I played the demo for Sea of Stars on Switch, and it's very, very good. I've been looking forward to this game ever since it was announced -- especially given that it's from the same studio that created The Messenger -- one of the few recent games that I've played through multiple times.
I'm looking forward to Sea of Stars for many reasons. The biggest one is that I don't think I'd mind playing with my younger children around. I used to play a lot of video games with my children watching, and that gets harder with a variety of ages (ranged 7 - 18 years, and different tastes for different ages) and with most gaming content edging ever higher towards the T rating. I played the demo with all of my children present, and everyone loved it. Sabotage's games thus far remind me the films Pixar made in the earlier Lasseter years. Hope that Sea of Stars doesn't disappoint.
And much respect to you Greg for making these videos given your full household. I also have a full household, and find it hard enough just making time to *play* video games. Can't imagine the time to create content on them too. :)
I greatly appreciate the support and kind words! It’s true, some of these games are getting wild. It’s weird how they didn’t seem bad when we were younger, but now it feels different. I was playing The Surge the other day and a kid walked in and a core mechanic of that game is taking people’s limbs off. It’s not extremely gory, but it felt awkward to explain.
On the subject of games and family and videos, I have no idea what I’m going to do when this game drops and then Baldur’s Gate 3 comes to console the week after. Yikes. I’ve got to find a way to get rid of that pesky day job!
@@gregowen2022 , hah! I don't have any good advice for you re the day job and availability. You have to pay for the habit somehow, and I'm still working on Tears of the Kingdom! 😆
Dang, I would’ve never noticed this without you, Greg. U DA REAL MVP
I'm really excited for this game! Glad to know that you're a fellow JRPG enjoyer. I can also recommend Cosmic Star Heroine, Rise of the Third Power and Chained Echoes, great endie games
The timing attacks and level up selection is DIRECTLY influenced by Super Mario RPG. The remake comes out November 17 on Switch, you should play it if you haven't played the game before!
I absolutely can't wait for it. What's nice is that I played it so long ago, I barley remember the story or anything. It'll be like playing it for the first time again!
Turns out I wishlisted this on Steam back in April of 2022 and completely forgot about it. It looks so fantastic. Can't wait.
I kickstarted this one too. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time.
It’s so amazing, right? Part of me wants a remaster or something, but then I saw the Secret of Mana “remake”
@@gregowen2022 The art style totally still holds up. What is needed is a true sequel. Love that story. ❤️
Only issue I have is with the demo is the fishing. Mechanically I love it, but one type of fish just won’t let me catch it. I make it all the way to end and then it just goes nuts going back and forth making it impossible to reel him in.
6:26 not a dragon! Technically a sky serpant and the difference matters for reasons I don't think we've been told.
I'm going to find out tomorrow! I'm so excited!
Lol love the skill up reference 😂
He is hands down my favorite game reviewer. Our tastes align, so if he likes it I’m confident I will.
Not the normal style of game I play but I’ll check it out!
I hope you really enjoy it!
Hot dang, FFT, one of my top favorite games of all time, i even bought the mobile version twice (for diferent devices). Others from PS1 era are Legend of Lagoon, super underrated and Thousands Arms, this one is just too good and underrated AND not a lot o flove is thrown it’s way! Great video as always, and if it’s out for PC, i’m sure as heck gonna check it!
I'm trying to hype responsibly, but....
I am excited as hell for this! My most highly anticipated game of 2023, thus far. Also hugely looking forward to the Suikoden remakes.
I can't be responsible and it's scary.
I was too hyped for Cyberpunk and FF15, but this one feels genuine. I'm dying to get my hands on the whole thing
convinced!
I enjoyed the demo very much. My only complaint was as someone who didn't really play console rpgs (I got started on the SSI rpgs like Phantasie II, Roadwar 2000 and Wizard's Crown on an Apple IIe from the early 1980s and developed a taste for those types of rpgs) a lot of the controls weren't explained very well - particularly which keys on my keyboard corresponded to the controller buttons the tutorial was referring to. I literally had to randomly press keys to figure out which one let me go back a step on menus. Other than that, it was fun!
[My first serious foray into JRPGs was Dragonquest IX and it was an amazing experience! Never really played Final Fantasy VII - just watched my roommates play it]
I might get this game.
So hyped for this! Their first game is my all time favorite 2d platformer, and I say that as a huge fan of the Metroids, Castlevanias, Earthworm Jim, Megaman X/Zero, Gunvolt, Dead Cells, and Celste.
Can they nail 2 totally different genres both on their first attempts?
I’ve been keeping an eye on any updates but so far there’s no solid news about this game getting a physical release. I was gonna hold out til then but screw it, I can’t wait to get my hands on this game!
Kind of reminds me of Final Fantasy!.... Lol farm simulator, have you tried Stardew Valley? I can spend hours on that game and never gets old for me. But that's right up my alley.
This looks fantastic. I hope it comes out on Steam soon.
Looks like it's launching on all platforms!
Looks like a fun game 👍
It really does, I can’t wait to get into the whole thing!
If you like games that take a spin on the standard turn based formula, a game I recommend you check out would be Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.
Honestly, a solid 9/10 or even 10/10 game.
Man, and I almost bought it during the last sale. I hear nothing but praise for that game and every time I'm going to buy it, my backlog tells me to put the card down. Next time it's on sale, I'm just freaking doing it
Ugh that looks like so much fun, yet another game to add to my steam wishlist that I can never buy.
Hahaha, the weight of our steam wishlists and RUclips watch later lists is awful, right?
It really is a very great game
What’s the story? Looks and sounds great! Is it coming to switch?
I'm not a fan of turn-based but you had me at Chrono Trigger
Almost 30 years later and it’s still the freaking goat
Have you tried the demo of 'En Garde'? I think you and some of your kids would love it. ;)
I hadn’t heard of it, but I’m definitely checking it out now!
I love playing games with my kids, but I also can’t stand Gang Beasts, Human Fall Flat, and Heavenly Bodies, so this will be a great change of pace
@gregowen2022 yeah looks like a good fun throwback to old fashioned swashbuckling movies which is totally my jam. When it releases is probably when I'll upgrade my computer.
From the online descriptions of it being just as much about style as actual sword fighting, I'm really hoping for some Monkey Island insults to be in there
French author Valérie Valère gives Greg a nervous breakdown. I'm happy with my X-COM Terror from the Deep, thank you.
So which is this one? Valeer? Or Valerie?
XCOM gives me problems. I can’t accept the idea that I’m going to lose team members and there’s pretty much nothing I can do about it.
@@gregowen2022valeer
@@gregowen2022 LOL, I feel you on the anxiety of losing team members. And especially if you're talking about Terror from the Deep, you WILL lose team members.
I feel like Undertale really changed how we should do turn based combat or RPG's. I know its not mentioned in the video, but I feel like Toby Fox started something.
Now there’s a video worth making and revisiting the game for.
I bet you'll have to kill God by the end.
Looks great, does it push "progressive" ideas?
so is this a game review chanal too
Only sometimes, sadly. One day maybe I can takes this gig full time and I would be able to review games inside a time window that makes sense. For, uh, business purposes, obviously.
lov to wach any thing u review@@gregowen2022
I am not a gamer but Cool ı guess.
I appreciate you watching!
Hold up, wait a minute....are you asking me to STOP playing Baldur's Gate 3?! How dare you! 🤣😂
Please, sire, understand that I am but a humble console peasant. Even if I pay for the deluxe edition (which I will cause I’m a sucker), I must wait until September 2nd to join you in its glory.
I’m interested to see how it plays on console, actually. Divinity plays well, so I have confidence they’ll get it right
Hmmm. Not my type of game (gravitated away from games). But doing a whole random video on a game that you supported - and not just an ad - respect. I will judge you if its shit :)
Haha, I’ll deserve it, but based on what I’ve seen, this won’t be a disappointment. Thanks for the supportive comment. Even if this one isn’t successful by YT standards, it was fun to make, and especially fun to, uh, research
it's Ok to be white.
Sorry, you lost me at "turn based" combat.
Turn based games suck until you try. I used to dislike them too until I got into Wild Arms
I've tried plenty, just never been my jam. Only ones I like are Fire Emblem and Persona 5. @@IAmTheEagleHTM
Understandable, though I am excited to see their new additions to the system play out.
I really wish I clicked with it, missing out on Baldur's Gate 3 because of it, sadly. @@gregowen2022
