Bryan look up the A2 iron sights, they are good for 300 yard shots all day long. I was watching a trained sniper who said that he practiced out to 500 yards, which was news to me. The iron sight you are showing is super thick as someone else pointed out. I am not arguing about whether your conclusion is wrong or not, I don't know. I am just telling you that you can ask any soldier who went to basic training and it is a fact that is not a difficult shot with good iron sights.

My grandfather was a real cowboy who owned a huge cattle ranch, growing up I was taught to shoot from the time I could hold a rifle and I could make that shot as a teenager easily. I also took JROTC in high school and shot rifles and I also was in the US Army. Just because you don't believe something could be true in light of 'facts' doesn't mean it can't be. You can get finer foresight posts for ARs. I used one on an M16 A2 30ish years ago and got some great open sight accuracy (was in a military competition at the time). I'm sure they are easy get. Iron sights, with an expert, can produce excellent accuracy at range.
The red dot was likely covering the whole "target". Inexperienced shooter with terrible equipment for the supposed job. A few guntubers tried to recreate the shot with a similar rifle in a ballistic gel head. Went terribly for 99% of them. Many missed multiple times.

The Caliber was .224 Valkyrie that the shooter used which is 22 caliber the same as a .223. The difference between 223 and 224 Valkyrie is their effective range and the bullet weights they fire. I did a lot of open range competition shooting ( British army ) with the 7.62 SLR. The iron ramp sights were up to 600 yards. If there was no heat shimmer, then a group of 4" was commonplace at 200 yards. One had to read the range flag, of course, and allow for gravity > 200.

I was in the Army for 21 years and in Basic Training we had Marksmanship training. We had to battle sight zero our M-16 Rifle we fired 3 round into a target 25 meters away and until we had a shot group the size of a quarter. We had to practice the 8 steady hold factors and master them in order to get that quarter size round group. Once you got that quarter size battle sight zero then you went to qualification range. The targets distance on the qualification range were as follows. These are all in meters 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300. The target silhouette was from the top of the shoulder up to the head. Firing position was the prone support or in the foxhole supported. With iron sights you could hit the target at 300 meters. 300 meters to yards 328.084 yards. Could that young man get a head shot with iron sights at a target 145 yards away yes. We don't know if he had any training on that rifle from his dad, if I was his dad I would not fess up to that. We were trained to always aim at the center mass of the target, if you are trying a head shot with the side of the head in your sights center mass would be around the area of the ear.
Shooting paper targets in military training vs. climbing on top of a building trying to assassinate a former President, are two totally different things. Not a good comparison.

The only difference between a human target and a paper target is that the paper target does not have the ability to shoot back. or move about.. With enough practice/training with iron sights you will be surprise what you can hit at a long distance. We are clueless on how much knowledge and experience the shooter had with that rifle. You are corresponding with a veteran of 21 years of service in the U.S Army. U.S Army Marksmanship team members hit 1000 yard target all day long with iron sights. I know we train to a higher standard than civilians at taking out target at a long range with iron sights but it is done all the time by the military. That shooter only has to get lucj once.

In the 1980s, at 300 yards we fired on the 'Dog' target. Then at 500 yards we fired on the 'Man' target. I qualified in Recruit Training with a 238 on prequal, I shot a 234. I became an air traffic controller at El Toro. They sought me out to be a marksmanship instructor and rifle coach to 'snap-in' and qualify the Marines in the 3rd MAW at El Toro, where once a month we would be at Edson Range Thurs thru Sun running snap in, prequal, qual, and weapons survey and return. So I agree that hitting a head size target from 140 yards would be difficult with Iron sights. You can put it on paper, but to reliably hit a head size target would be difficult, especially under the pressure of that shot. After I left the Marine Corps I became Los Angeles Co Deputy Sheriff. I was not just an 'expert', but a 'distinguished expert' with the issue weapon. Needless to say, I have put many, many rounds down range. Making a head shot with iron sights with an AR-15 would not be easy and a low probability shot. We always aim center mass for any shots at a distance. So I agree with the Barbarian.

But just to let you know I can hit a 12 inch bullseye target at 200 yards from an offhand/ standing position with only iron sights. And I can hit a sillouette target of a man from his waste up at 500 yards from the prone position with only iron sights 10 out of 10 times.

I keep hearing different distances. Some say 150 yards and some say 150 feet. Some are putting it in meters which I have no idea what a meter is. Any way we can get a difinitive distance on this?
For Iron sights at 140 yards, a gallon jug will be covered with the front sight post, but if the gun had slimmer front sight, or a red dot sight, you might be able to see the jug. I do agree that a rifle with magnification makes the 140 yard shot easy. I've made 300 - 400 yrd shots with a .223 with scope. Anything past 400 is tough with a .223. A 200 yrd shot with stock iron sights is tough on a 6 inch target. A .223 gets pushed around by the wind, humidity, ammo defects. A lot of time the .223 tumbles which would affect accuracy. The AR-15 would provide a rapid shot at the cost of accuracy. A Bolt action with magnification would sacrifice rapid shot with more accuracy.

I've seen the video showing the ear being pierced by the bullet. You might want to do a little research on it. He was definitely using some type of optic. They haven't released what kind. I do agree that iron sights would be more difficult, at 150 yards, not impossible. Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done. He wasn't aiming for the ear, just happened that's what was hit. I personally can shoot at a 100 yards, with iron sights and could hit that jug. I'm 60 and my eye's aren't what they used to be. With optics I can hit that jug no problem at 200 yards. That kid was a member of a gun club and had taken a course there. He wasn't inexperienced.

Bryan look up the A2 iron sights, they are good for 300 yard shots all day long. I was watching a trained sniper who said that he practiced out to 500 yards, which was news to me. The iron sight you are showing is super thick as someone else pointed out. I am not arguing about whether your conclusion is wrong or not, I don't know. I am just telling you that you can ask any soldier who went to basic training and it is a fact that is not a difficult shot with good iron sights.

My grandfather was a real cowboy who owned a huge cattle ranch, growing up I was taught to shoot from the time I could hold a rifle and I could make that shot as a teenager easily. I also took JROTC in high school and shot rifles and I also was in the US Army. Just because you don't believe something could be true in light of 'facts' doesn't mean it can't be. I saw the sniper in an interview after the shooting and he mentioned the fact of shooting out to 500 yards, which like I said was news to me, we made 300 yard shots at the range. The sniper also said he thought the shot was an easy shot.

You can get finer foresight posts for ARs. I used one on an M16 A2 30ish years ago and got some great open sight accuracy (was in a military competition at the time). I'm sure they are easy get. Iron sights, with an expert, can produce excellent accuracy at range.

The red dot was likely covering the whole "target". Inexperienced shooter with terrible equipment for the supposed job. A few guntubers tried to recreate the shot with a similar rifle in a ballistic gel head. Went terribly for 99% of them. Many missed multiple times.

The Caliber was .224 Valkyrie that the shooter used which is 22 caliber the same as a .223. The difference between 223 and 224 Valkyrie is their effective range and the bullet weights they fire. The 224 Valkyrie was designed to shoot heavier bullets up to 1,300 yards while the 223 excels at firing lighter bullets at ranges at or below 800 yards.

I did a lot of open range competition shooting ( British army ) with the 7.62 SLR. The iron ramp sights were up to 600 yards. If there was no heat shimmer, then a group of 4" was commonplace at 200 yards. One had to read the range flag, of course, and allow for gravity > 200.

I was in the Army for 21 years and in Basic Training we had Marksmanship training. We had to battle sight zero our M-16 Rifle we fired 3 round into a target 25 meters away and until we had a shot group the size of a quarter. We had to practice the 8 steady hold factors and master them in order to get that quarter size round group. Once you got that quarter size battle sight zero then you went to qualification range. The targets distance on the qualification range were as follows. These are all in meters 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300. The target silhouette was from the top of the shoulder up to the head. Firing position was the prone support or in the foxhole supported. With iron sights you could hit the target at 300 meters. 300 meters to yards 328.084 yards. Could that young man get a head shot with iron sights at a target 145 yards away yes. We don't know if he had any training on that rifle from his dad, if I was his dad I would not fess up to that. We were trained to always aim at the center mass of the target, if you are trying a head shot with the side of the head in your sights center mass would be around the area of the ear.
Shooting paper targets in military training vs. climbing on top of a building trying to assassinate a former President, are two totally different things. Not a good comparison.

The only difference between a human target and a paper target is that the paper target does not have the ability to shoot back. or move about.. With enough practice/training with iron sights you will be surprise what you can hit at a long distance. We are clueless on how much knowledge and experience the shooter had with that rifle. You are corresponding with a veteran of 21 years of service in the U.S Army. U.S Army Marksmanship team members hit 1000 yard target all day long with iron sights. I know we train to a higher standard than civilians at taking out target at a long range with iron sights but it is done all the time by the military. That shooter only has to get lucj once.

Same setup as Oswald, kid on the roof, Secret Service already said they had a team in that building because the roof was deemed too steep, that's why they weren't on that roof. Pretty convenient, since you can hold back from the window and shoot without scope glare or muzzle flash giving you away.

In the 1980s, at 300 yards we fired on the 'Dog' target. Then at 500 yards we fired on the 'Man' target. I qualified in Recruit Training with a 238 on prequal, I shot a 234.
I became an air traffic controller at El Toro. They sought me out to be a marksmanship instructor and rifle coach to 'snap-in' and qualify the Marines in the 3rd MAW at El Toro, where once a month we would be at Edson Range Thurs thru Sun running snap in, prequal, qual, and weapons survey and return.
So I agree that hitting a head size target from 140 yards would be difficult with Iron sights. You can put it on paper, but to reliably hit a head size target would be difficult, especially under the pressure of that shot.
After I left the Marine Corps I became Los Angeles Co Deputy Sheriff. I was not just an 'expert', but a 'distinguished expert' with the issue weapon.
Needless to say, I have put many, many rounds down range. Making a head shot with iron sights with an AR-15 would not be easy and a low probability shot. We always aim center mass for any shots at a distance.

While I agree with your statement about questioning this whole assassinstion attempt. We disagree for different reasons. But just to let you know I can hit a 12 inch bullseye target at 200 yards from an offhand/ standing position with only iron sights. And I can hit a sillouette target of a man from his waste up at 500 yards from the prone position with only iron sights 10 out of 10 times.

For those out there that think this was staged I'm pretty sure the family members who lost a father, husband, a friend, would disagree. Did anyone bother reading his obituary? The witnesses who saw his head bleed out all over the bleachers would disagree as well. Were they all in on this "charade." What about the two other people who were life flighted with gunshot wounds? I know, that was part of the act also. But yes, the kid on the roof most likely didn't make the shot, he was just a distraction for the guy up on the water tower to do the job. The kid did everything humanly possible to get arrested, but for some unknown reason he didn't. He did die though or maybe that was staged too. The person on the water tower most likely was the one who took the shots and odds are he was no amateur or maybe he was. Maybe he was one of the many wrestlers that Trump knows so well. Isn't it amazing that security had this kid in their sights long before any bullets rang out, but they didn't fire. Why isn't anyone talking about the white van that was under the water tower as shots were being taken but then later it was mysteriously found 10 miles from the rally full of explosions. This is one time I don’t agree with you. If this whole thing was a set up, they wouldn’t dare create such an unbelievable and blunder mistake of not having a proper sniper rifle. The unusual choice of weapon shows that it was not a set up and it’s completely the incompetency and stupidity of the shooter. The image of the bullet was also captured in slow motion. If you observed the blood on his face was splattered all over his cheeks and down near to his mouth. There is only one way the blood would have splattered and that’s when the area of contact was hit by a lot of moving force that tore through the flesh. And it was not done by hands. Blading would have just made the blood come down normally. A former marine has also commented down below saying you can shoot an AR-15 from 300 meters with iron sight. Another said that it was a red dot sight. Plus after the incident during the ceremony you could see Trumps face had completely changed. That’s the face of a man who had a near death experience.

I keep hearing different distances. Some say 150 yards and some say 150 feet. Some are putting it in meters which I have no idea what a meter is. Any way we can get a difinitive distance on this?
For Iron sights at 140 yards, a gallon jug will be covered with the front sight post, but if the gun had slimmer front sight, or a red dot sight, you might be able to see the jug. I do agree that a rifle with magnification makes the 140 yard shot easy. I've made 300 - 400 yrd shots with a .223 with scope. Anything past 400 is tough with a .223. A 200 yrd shot with stock iron sights is tough on a 6 inch target. A .223 gets pushed around by the wind, humidity, ammo defects. A lot of time the .223 tumbles which would affect accuracy. The AR-15 would provide a rapid shot at the cost of accuracy. A Bolt action with magnification would sacrifice rapid shot with more accuracy.
It was Thomas Matthews Crooks Father's Gun.. Thomas Matthew Crooks used his Dad's gun.. Some of the kids who knew of him in High school said he wasn't very good with a riffle.
I've seen the video showing the ear being pierced by the bullet. You might want to do a little research on it. He was definitely using some type of optic. They haven't released what kind. I do agree that iron sights would be more difficult, at 150 yards, not impossible. Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done. He wasn't aiming for the ear, just happened that's what was hit. I personally can shoot at a 100 yards, with iron sights and could hit that jug. I'm 60 and my eye's aren't what they used to be. With optics I can hit that jug no problem at 200 yards. That kid was a member of a gun club and had taken a course there. He wasn't inexperienced.
But apart from that it didn't do anything to him, shouldn't an ammunition like that rip something out of his ear? At one point they tried to change it and said that in reality a bullet broke the telepromter and when it splintered it hit him in the ear. but nothing was seen of that
