He's speaking African-American English with a bit of a Southern American twang which can be difficult for non-native English speakers to understand. I'm American, and there were a couple of times where I really had to pay attention. English has dialects just like most other languages and subtitles are helpful for a lot of people that get confused with certain accents or words they are unfamiliar with. I have a really hard time understanding the Indian English accent even though Indians are native English speakers and so am I. Nothing weird about subtitling.
