This is my favorite version. I think he really plays out the demonic feeling of this marvelous piece. I feel I can see the naughty Mephisto flying around, looking for chances to make some tricks, etc. Only Economou helps me find Mephisto. Thank you so much, and may you rest in peace.

Nicolas Economou was a talent of the caliber of Dinu Lipatti and Jacqueline du Pré. So sad magnificently extraordinary genius some times has to go before its time... thanks for posting this gem.

In my opinion i suppose that he didn't want to have cameras next to him for a matter of focus on the cyclopic work he was going through...mystics and rituals aside..... all the camera shots, as you probably have noticed, have been taken from a relatively long distance with the only support of the zoom to try reaching the nearest his incredible technique...

Da irrt Nicolas Economou, der Walzer ist ganz eindeutig nach dem Tanz in der Dorfschenke gestaltet. Das beginnt schon mit Stimmen der Saiten einer teuflischen Geige. Vielleicht spielt das Thema Paganini noch mit rein, aber man sieht hier die zerstörerische Kraft teuflischer Geilheit geradezu vor sich, vermutlich auch ein bisschen autobiographisch gedacht, denn Liszt sah sich ja als zur Hälfte als Franziskaner und zur anderen als Zigeuner...

Ogden is unmatched in many of my favorite pieces. His Rachmaninoff d minor sonata is leagues above anybody.
