I love this I'm a 3rd generation of St Thomas, St Croix family. My mom of five children keep her memories going. I love that she use to make the johnny bread for us.. Thank you for this video...❤🙏
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! Those Johnny Cake memories sound special. If you have time, make sure you write it down, so it's not forgotten. Thank you for sharing!
@StThomasHistrclTrust Yes my older sister writes and have all thepictures of memories. She was actually the only one that was conceived in the islands but we all share the bloodline of being a Islander..giggles ❤️🙏
My parents were from East End Tortola and JosVan Dyke. They both moved to St. Thomas in their youth and began our family. My grandparents and great-grandparents were from Denmark and Portugal via Saba, settling in the Virgin Islands as young men. My father came to St. Thomas at the age of 21 and began construction of the White House in Savan, which included apt. rentals; a bakery, guest house, liquor, and grocery store from 1947-1954. I grew up with dad and my mother in Savan. Many, many things have changed over the past three generations. I agree with Ms. Dennis, as I too, felt like a stranger when I returned to our native land. We must all strive to become creative in preserving our legacy. Thank you for speaking to our history and culture.
Thank you for sharing. As expressed by Ms. Dennis, sharing our story is a way of passing down our culture through the generations and through the community as things change.
Thank you for sharing
