How to knit make one right (M1R) and make one left (M1L). How to increase stitches.

I love using these techniques when I knit top down sweaters! I usually have one knit stitch between the two increases when knitting raglan (picture).
M1R : Use left needle to lift up the thread from behind. Knit it as a straight stitch
M1L : Use left needle to lift up thread from the front. Knit through back loop
