The better way to do this is to not buy a "Bernina Express" Ticket but to just buy a regular ticket from St. Moritz to Tirano. There is a train every hour that goes along this route. The regular train has windows you can open, which is much nicer than the closed-box experience you get with the Bernina Express. Also, you can get out at any station, check out the scenery there, and hop on the next train. There are at least a dozen stations that are worth checking out along this route.

I just came back to Sydney from Switzerland two months ago. Did a Swiss grand train trip and it was unforgettable. Since you guys are in St Moritz, why not take the train to Bad Ragaz to try the Tamina bath, very relaxing with breathtaking mountain view. From there you might want to go up to Mt Pizol with the very famous 5 lakes hike. You will love it!
Hi! Im travelling switzerland this month, and im interested in going to the Tamina bath you mentioned, i was just wondering how much does it cost? It sounds so nice + thanks for your suggestions ☺️
Great video guys !!! I've traveled to Switzerland twice from the U.S. and it truly is the most beautiful country in the world. The reason you didn't encounter any border checks is because Italy and Switzerland are both members of what's called the Schengen Area. As long as you're traveling between Schengen Area countries (26 in all), there are no stops for border checks.
Hello, you can not buy a ticket for $26. The video creators need to edit the info in this video. Last week I went on the Bernina Express with my $26 ticket I bought 6 months ago after watching this video… the content creators lucked out on this because it was a mistake . The $26 is a reservation spot. The day I went, they explained the reservation spot $26 and then charged me the full price of $135 on top of the $26 once I boarded and was 30 mins into the ride. We only had the one day to do this ride and to add salt to the wound, it was raining, cloudy and foggy that day and we saw NOTHING for $160 x 2 = $320 usd. Just beware that this is not accurate info and these content creators were very VERY lucky. I would have cancelled the train ride had I known that I was going to be charged that much for a cloudy mountainless ride for $320 😢
@@nineteenfortyeightfrauds is a bit strong - I reckon they had a train pass (Eurail/Interail/Swiss Travel Pass) - this really needs to be mentioned & the $26 is misleading in the extreme.
@@keysersoze5415 Depends what you mean - Swiss half fare card makes the train ticket half price, but you still need the reservation, which has no discounts. If you mean the Swiss travel pass (including flex version, provided active on the day), no train ticket is required, just the seat reservation, again, no discounts. Make sure your reservation matches the class of train ticket/Swiss Travel Pass.
@@Jonny-z4h thank you so much! Technically I get free ride OR half the fee ($70+) PLUS the reservation fee ($26) if I have the swiss pass/half fare card? Am I getting this right? 😅
From Tirano RhB in summer the famous red RhB "Bernina Express" bus sets sail for Lugano, waiting for travelers arriving from Chur on the train of the same name. Both bus and train are included in the Swiss Travel Pass, Eurail Pass, Interrail Pass and the like. Only the seat reservation is not included and is never tied to the ticket. Therefore, in the event of a missed connection, you lose your reservation but your ticket remains valid. Instead in Italy, if you lose one you also lose the other.
Hi Stephen, Jess and Hunter! Hello from Canada! My wife and I just wanted to tell you how much we’ve enjoyed watching many of your past vlogs during the past pandemic, limited travel period. Our boys are older now so your adventures with little Hunter take us down parenting memory lane. We are very impressed with Stephen’s excellent video/sound production and are curious how he got the aerial drone shots of the full train in this video….guessing you must have stopped at a station, thrown the drone up and filmed a train going in other direction?…anyway take care and we look forward to your next travels….suggestion- renting cottage in Muskoka lakes area of Ontario and portaging by canoe in Algonquin park. Cheers!
What a beautiful views! Loved the video! I highly reccomend the Jungfrau Region where you have to visit the Jungfrau, Top of Europe. But also the other city/villages like Interlaken, Grindelwald, Kleine Scheidegg, Wengen and Lauterbrunnen are worth a visit. Enjoy your stay! 🇨🇭
I was looking about Bernina Express from Italy to Switzerland for this October trip for the last weeks, and finally you did the trip (with almost similar itinerary that I had!). Thank you so much!
The railway station called Tirano RhB, although located in Italy, is considered Swiss territory. Swiss VAT is therefore charged on tickets and souvenirs
I had the pleasure of travelling on similar Furka Oberalp railway in Switzerland…..now 35 years ago. Yet I still remember the experience…..4hrs of constant picture postcard images but it was 2hrs into the journey waiting at a passing point which is etched in my memory. No sound of cars…..washing machines…..planes…..lorries….coffee makers (!)…..pets…..wind blowing…. or even humans chatting…..just cow bells echoing in the valley. 35 years later I still remember the solitary sound.
Welcome to Switzerland! I can recommend visiting Lucerne and its surrounding area. (E.g. exploring the city, taking a boat ride on the lake, hiking or taking a cable car up a mountain, etc.) If you're in town and would like to connect, let me know. 😊
Lovely. Switzerland is just beautiful. My favourite is Zermatt, so that's my tip. I generally go in winter, and mostly go up any mountain and then have a hike. Sometimes this goes through a forrest for some extra magic.
I loved the video. It changed my whole idea of how I should plan my upcoming trip starting in Italy and going all the way to Switzerland (3rd time). Thanks to both of you.
YOU MUST VISIT MT TITLIS! It takes 2 cable cars to get to the top and then you can walk across (and under!) a glacier! It was the highlight of our trip in 2018. Cheers!
I'm from Germany and I think most people here sleep with two separate duvets. I always hated the shared duvets in the south as I mostly shared a bed with my sibling on a holiday 😂
They are stock footage. And unfortunately not all those clips are from the section of this train line they were on in this video, some of them are from the Landwasserviadukt in Filisur and the rhine gorge between Reichenau-Tamins and Ilanz.
Today (August 23, 2023) from Tirano to Sankt Moritz (San Maurizio d'Engadina) the ticket costs CHF 32.00 in second class without the Half-fare card or CHF 16.00 if you have a "Half-price season ticket". If you are not yet in possession of a valid "Half Price Pass", you can purchase it together with your train ticket. You will be given a temporary subscription: the plastic card with photograph will be sent to you by post. In German-speaking Switzerland, apply for a "Halb Tax Abo".
I assume they filmed all of the videos when they were in Florida before coming over to Europe but uploaded a few of them at a later date to spread the content out (would’ve been a bit Disney heavy otherwise!)
@@helenjones94 the Disney wish ship they were on is brand new, first voyage was in mid July, just know that because I like some Disney vloggers. We rode that train after Christmas 2019... just a month or so before the pandemic shut the world down. It was FANTASTIC. Non-stop beautiful from Zermatt to Tirano. But not for $26 dollars. lol. A bit more than that. How did you manage to pay $26??? It was also packed full of people (but still comfortable). Yes, definitely worth the time and money to take that train. 👍👍
We don't have to pay for this ride because it is included in our interrail. We just took the regular red train from St. Moritz to Tirano. The windows can be opened in our train and even have our bikes with us so we stayed in Italy afterwards.
Thanks for this amazing video. It makes me want to try it! However, when I just checked the website for the tickets. It seems to be more than 26 dollars. I wonder if that is only for reserving the seat? or including the ticket? Or because you guys had travel pass.
Train rides within Switzerland are pretty expensive! But there is a Swiss Pass you can buy where you can use all the public transportation incl. boats and mountain railways. Children under the age of 6 are free. You should really come to my hometown Lucerne and go on a (sunset) cruise on lake lucerne with the steam boat. Mount Pilatus is nice and there is a big playground at the first stop (gondola). Have fun! PS: I am Swiss and I love Australia 😍
Switzerland has INCREDIBLE Christmas markets! In December 2019, spent time in Interlaken, Lausanne (day trip to Montreux), Zermatt, Basel (day trip), and Lucerne (our favorite). From Interlaken, took the train to Jungfraujoch (trip up through Grindelwald, trip back through Lauterbrunnen). Traveled from Zermatt to St. Moritz on the Glacier Express--very similar to the Bernina Express but a lot more expensive! (Of course, it is all day, so that actually makes sense.) Dying to go back to see all of the cities again, and highly recommend them all. Such a beautiful country! Yes, it's expensive, but there's nothing like it!
Switzerland was our absolute happy place as a family.... So many trains ... Trains had playgrounds every mountain had a playground you could eat at a restaurant with your kids at a playground it's perfect for families
The steam paddle boat around lac leman (lake Geneva) is lovely, start at Ouchy, go to Montreux for lunch and back again, although it's very near the end of the season. Glacier 3000 on a very clear day. Lausanne has a great aquarium if it rains. Kandersteg and the walks there are beautiful. Bisse du Ro is on my list, however I'm too nervous to bring my toddler there for a while!
Walensee is beautiful but it has lots of hiking which might be hard with a kid but if you don't want to go to mountains then it has small place near the lake for swimming and small picnic. I went there a few years ago for 12 hours of hiking. It is very beautiful.
I also wenn on the Bernina Express at the beginning of August from Tirano to Chur(the 4 hour train ride Stephen mentioned). We used our Interrail Pass and we needed to get a 26CHF reservation which was still a super good deal. Also all the Bernina Expresses going to Tirano were packed. And we had the whole train for us 🤓 really recommend doing this train ride. I think I will do it again in winter ❄️
@@magbattistellaI think the quoted $26 fare was just clickbait. Perhaps these people had a Eurorail ticket that allows unlimited travel for a stipulated period (month) and only had to pay the reservation fee which is mandatory on the touristic train. From my research the regular train fare between Tirano and St. Moritz is €35 on way. Perhaps there is a way of getting a cheaper fare without having to purchase a loyalty card, and if so, I would like to know.

We went to Switzerland in 2019 and I have to say there is not a country more beautiful.. lauterbrennan, murren, wengen and interlacken are a must friends…. Zermatt is a bit of a tourist trap. We love hiking and staying in mountain huts for the ultimate mountain experience...some even have private rooms to book, like Capanna Adula. Hey! Since you mention the Jungfrau area I wanted to ask...I'm going to Zurich next month and we only have two days there (Sat and Sun) I know that in Sundays everything is closed but I read somewhere that tourist areas are open, do you think that the Interlaken area or Lucern are a good choice to do on sundays? are there shops or activities you can do? Switzerland gives me the goose bumps! It's so gorgeous! We hope to visit some day! I would highly recommend visiting anything to do with WW11. I've read a couple of books now that tell how Switzerland was an oasis for people fleeing the neighboring countries. They housed more refugees per captita than any other country. They turned their front yards into gardens just to be able to feed everyone and even then many were close to starvation. There are still cannons disguised as houses that you can go see. As well as tunnels in the mountains where ammunition and food were stored. There's a house that sits on the border of both Switzerland and France. The Inn keeper was a very small lady but bold as she stood up to the Nazis and helped Jews to escape through her Inn and into Switzerland. Anyhow, the history is incredible!
Brienz in Switzerland is beautiful with an very quaint train that goes right up the mountain where there is a nice place for a drink and lunch. Although it is quite a journey from St Moritz! Have a fab time what ever you do.

Lauterbrunnen Valley - FOR SURE! Look it up - it is a must-see. And for your city trip, not Zurich, Geneva or Lucerne (although they're very nice of course - but too "internationalized") try either Berne or Fribourg. Cozy, homely, quite Swiss in character.
When Hunter said "a heart" .. it just melt mine... Super cute 💗
I would have cancelled the train ride had I known that I was going to be charged that much for a cloudy mountainless ride for $320 😢
I notice your comment is 6 months old and the creators have not issued a correction. What frauds.
@@nineteenfortyeightfrauds is a bit strong - I reckon they had a train pass (Eurail/Interail/Swiss Travel Pass) - this really needs to be mentioned & the $26 is misleading in the extreme.
is it free or half the price If I get a swiss pass card?
HOT TUB!!!!!
Alexa has watched that bit at least 15 times 😂🥰
Lucky little girl seeing places most of us will never see.
Hey, I‘m from Switzerland and I would totally recommend you visiting the „Rheinfall“. Thats a beautiful waterfall next to Schaffausen.
Cheers!
when hunter appeared at 6:22 SO CUTE!! beautiful video as always
Loved it guys! We’ve been flooded here in New Zealand, and evacuated - this video took me away from it all, thank you 🙏 it looks so stunning there 🤩
I am not usually saying stuff like these, but seeing your family in this video gave me a huge amount of joy.... You guys are great
What a beautiful views! 🇨🇭
Hunter is adorable. Thanks for the memories. We spent our 80's in Switzerland. Cran-Montana
I 1st went to Switzerland in 2017. I really wonder how more beautiful would it have been 30 or 40 years ago...
YAY 😊 Switzerland is mine bucket list destination. I'm going to enjoy watching this series. I really like seeing things through Hunter's eyes too.
Welcome to Switzerland! I can recommend visiting Lucerne and its surrounding area. (E.g. exploring the city, taking a boat ride on the lake, hiking or taking a cable car up a mountain, etc.)
If you're in town and would like to connect, let me know. 😊
I am going to Zermatt this March to ski, just booked my plane tickets! :)
Lovely. Switzerland is just beautiful. My favourite is Zermatt, so that's my tip. I generally go in winter, and mostly go up any mountain and then have a hike. Sometimes this goes through a forrest for some extra magic.
Oh, and you can get to Zermatt from St Moritz using the Glacier Express. Which is just as special as the destination.
Thank you for taking me with you on this journey.
I love how you’ve simplified your bed jump christening to one jump collapse. Such a precious tradition. 🤗
Cheers!
Your are a very down to earth family. Thanks for taking us along un your travels 🙂
Thanks for the idea!
I'm from Germany and I think most people here sleep with two separate duvets. I always hated the shared duvets in the south as I mostly shared a bed with my sibling on a holiday 😂
welcome to Switzerland
With so much negativity and gloom in the world I love your positivity and joie de vivre, it's such an antidote. Subscribed.
Ok, I have to ask... how on earth are you taking those drone shots of the trains when traveling countries??? 😲😳
I think some of those types of shots are stock footage
🤔 when in your timeline did you go to Florida if this was right after Italy?
I’m scrolling comments trying to figure this out too.
I’m thinking in real time they had time after Florida and came back to Italy but didn’t film. Doesn’t matter at the end of the day, just piecing it together lol
Yes, Reservation itself costs CHF 26 oneway and Ticket costs around CHF 56 (Tirano to St. Moritz), not sure why it was mentioned as just $26 🤔
We don't have to pay for this ride because it is included in our interrail.
Or because you guys had travel pass.
i literally just got back from switserland! have so much fun :) can’t wait for this series
The views look breath taking on the train 🙂 Europe is certainly on my bucket list to travel too🙂
Train rides within Switzerland are pretty expensive!
You are the cutest family ever. You inspire our travels. Keep up the great work! ❤️
Lucerne and the Jungfraujoch were two of my favorite things on my visit to Switzerland.
If you go to Lausanne, you should definetely check out the Sauvabelin Tower: it’s a wooden tower with incredible 360° panoramic views from the top
@@emmab1741 oh yes that's beautiful too! With a great playground just up the path. It's just all so stunning!
I'm going to enjoy this leg. Switzerland is gorgeous.
This was soo stinking cute!! Hunter is so bright and funny! hehe Thanks for sharing, Bless your family!! 🥰🥰🥳🥳💗💗
Walensee is beautiful but it has lots of hiking which might be hard with a kid but if you don't want to go to mountains then it has small place near the lake for swimming and small picnic. I went there a few years ago for 12 hours of hiking. It is very beautiful.
How did you guys get drone footage while in the train, however it is amazing
😂😂😂🤣 3:38 its the wrong train!!! Appenzeller bahnen are nearly 250km away from the rhätische bahn🥲
Hi Martina, what is this interrail pass?
@@magbattistella follow up on this question.
@@The_Red_Squirrel please what's the best way to get to Tirano from Milano Centrale? Also, is there a direct ride back to Milano Centrale from St. Moritz?
@@kemiobatomi1540 I have already responded in detail but for some reason my answer is not being posted on RUclips. The short answer is that all you want is on the app, Trainline.
What a wholesome journey ❤
The train ride looks stunning! But can you please explain how the ride cost comes to 26 USD? I looked it up and its around 56 CHF. Did you guys get some sort of a pass and just pay the reservation charge?
The price I checked today is 80CHF. When you check the price before selecting seat it's 24CHF, after selection it's 80CHF.
We went to Switzerland in 2019 and I have to say there is not a country more beautiful.. lauterbrennan, murren, wengen and interlacken are a must friends…. Zermatt is a bit of a tourist trap. The Matterhorn was cool but that’s about it.. we won’t be going back there on our 2024 trip back to Switzerland
Youz guys are fun. What a great train ride! Good on ya for keepin on the road. ❤
What an experience and inspiration for your daughter.....well done!.
We have been to Switzerland three times. Anywhere you go is beautiful. Try racklette (cheese) and the fondue. Seeing this video makes us want to go back and see more of the country. We can't wait to see the rest of your videos.
Can you share the timing of the train and day you travelled in this train. What the train to be empty as it is?
Thank you, hopefully I'll get to ride it this year in the autumn!
I loved this! Way better than the cruise videos (for me). Just more natural and authentic.
Just watched the video with my girl and we loved it! And now we wanna go🚄🏞❤
Welcome to Switzerland! What a great video! We're expats living in Zurich area with a 1.5 yr toddler... We love hiking and staying in mountain huts for the ultimate mountain experience...some even have private rooms to book, like Capanna Adula. Otherwise I would recommend the Jungfrau Region/Interlaken (esp. Lauterbrunnen valley), Zermatt, and Lucerne with a ferry ride on the beautiful lake. Could even try a "sleeping on straw" barn experience if you're brave! (Throughout Switzerland)
Thank you =)
Our son travelled 6 countries and 2 continents by 9 months of age. We are just regular people with full time jobs. Not on youtube or anything. we travel on our own expense no sponsors. So you got some competition little hunter..hahaha. Love ur videos ♥️
Hi, I am trying to book tickets online for the Bernina Express and I am a bit perplexed as only the reservation costs 26 CHF but it calls also for choosing a ticket and if choose "No discount" another 111 CHF are added automatically. Do I travel only with a reservation?
I would love to be in Switzerland 🇨🇭 right now! I am confused about the timeline of your travels. You were traveling Italy 🇮🇹 next we watched you on a new Disney cruise ship 🇺🇸 , and now on a train from Italy 🇮🇹 headed towards Switzerland 🇨🇭! What? When? Where?
Beautiful views and nice train
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Awesome looking trip and the kid is the cutest.
Awesome, thank you!
This is the most insanely gorgeous train ride I’ve ever seen 😍
Yessss! So excited to watch this! We are doing this next month on our honeymoon! Yay!
Been there & done that in the opposite direction ☺️ an awesome train ride, you got lucky with an empty carriage
That iconic viaduct too !!!!!
Everywhere is beautiful in Switzerland
What a life, good for you and your family
This is so tempting! I'll add this to my bucket list for sure tysm!
Soooo good you got to experience a quiet train, we lucked out too and it was the most incredible experience ❤❤❤
26 € per person is the cost for the seat booking in the Panorama Bernina Express. Then there is the cost of the ticket.
Today (August 23, 2023) from Tirano to Sankt Moritz (San Maurizio d'Engadina) the ticket costs CHF 32.00 in second class without the Half-fare card or CHF 16.00 if you have a "Half-price season ticket". So mf deceiving....
So, Steven and Jess now have got a smart baby💓🥂🍾
Lauterbrunnen Valley - FOR SURE! Look it up - it is a must-see.
And for your city trip, not Zurich, Geneva or Lucerne (although they're very nice of course - but too "internationalized") try either Berne or Fribourg. Cozy, homely, quite Swiss in character. Plus, there are lovely BnB's - no need to splash out on the INSANE Swiss hotel prices.
Thanks for sharing wonderful travel experience congratulations to both of you congratulations 🙏
Switzerland is goergous !! Go to Luzern !! French part of Switzerland also make sure you to Gruyere!!! enjoy - greetings from Frankfurt/Germany xxx
Wow! Thanks for the tips 💞💞💞👍🏼
Wonderful experience. I have traveled by the same train in last month from Tirano to St.Moritz. Enjoyed a lot with scenic natural beauty.
