- Finally I'm sharing my super giant leopard gecko! I didn't share this new little member of my family right when I got her, since it took a bit of time to confirm she had a clean bill of health. She is doing wonderfully now, so I finally introduced her to the custom terrarium I made and sculpted from the Vision cage, that video was from a few videos ago!

How much is the size of the gecko?
I understand Sunshine's frustrations. I would sooner eat my food from the dirty ground before I subjected myself to the indignity of eating from inferior dishes that clashed with my decor. Fortunately, I have a glow-in-the-dark Scooby-Doo cereal bowl that really ties everything together.

Sunshine is absolutely beautiful. Her eyes and everything are just gorgeous. I can tell she really likes the new tank, cause they typically like exploring and such. I think that hard work has paid off!

I have an albino leopard gecko, he's mostly yellowish orange so I named him Sunstone. I just felt like sharing that :) .
Mine has the same description and I called her sunshine

sunshine is adorable! And I bet it feels great to get a project out of the way! Nothing is better than watching your to-do list shrink, even if it's just accomplishing little things - it makes focusing on the bigger projects so much easier and less stressful to know that all the other stuff is taken care of! Lmao, I literally keep a to-do list program on my PC that allows me to set a list, add tags, set reminders and due dates and categories, and every day it updates me with what needs to be done that day. Between household chores, appointments, daily tasks on my pc, blog updates, and fish room stuff... it is a lifesaver in keeping my sanity and making sure everything is accomplished on time. I even have my water changes pre-programmed in to make sure I get them done at a regular interval. Even if it's just a little thing, checking things off that list every day makes me feel like I didn't waste my day. I got stuff done on time, even if those things are insignificant. It's really motivating and keeps me from feeling overwhelmed with all my ideas and projects.

Lol I alternate between writing everything on paper to doing a workflowy/google keep system to stay organized.
@@SimplyBetta lol I use Microsoft To-Do,, it's a free download. And for keeping track of other fishroom stuff, I use Microsoft OneNote. I feel like I've become so much more efficient!

This enclosure is beautiful but I feel like it's too small for a giant leo. Minimum is 20gal long for a regular sized, ideally 40gal for adults. I would think she needs a much larger enclosure than this.
Also as someone else has said... new husbandry is very different for Leo's now. UTH's are not suggested.
Since when are UTH not suggested? Leopard geckos thermoregulate by smushing their bellies down on things, they need that belly heat to digest food too?
This is a 30g and she def. looks big in it. She’s gonna have to hang out for a while while I get some more projects out of the way first though!

Another option for the dishes could be to just get clear ones so it's not as intrusive, or if you want to do something as a mini project with your daughter, you could get some grey dishes (or use those and paint it grey) and then together paint some succulents on them

She is happy with her new home… I would love to be able to touch one first and see if I like it in order to have one of my own… but I have only one problem… I scared to death by the bugs I will need to feed… 😅 other wise I think she is just perfect! Happy accident Taylor! Current husbandry is getting away from under tank heaters. Sunshine is gorgeous! My (“my daughter’s” 😂) leopard gecko thanks you for the inspiration for his new digs. He moved in the other day and is loving the naturalistic environment.

@@SimplyBetta Hiii! Undertank heaters shouldn't be the go to for any reptiles longterm heating anymore. Many still recommend them, but they only emit IR-C which only heats very superficially. Basking bulbs like halogen put out IR-A and B which heat the animal more thoroughly and you'll see a burst in activity. We also should move away from radiant heat panels and che as a sole heating source since these also only emit IR-C. They should only be used to raise the ambient temps if they're used at all.
So would a desert basking light with an under tank heater be insufficient for a male and female pair ?

@@AAC1714 Basking lamps are usually halogen bulbs and they work very well, if it is a ceramic heat emitter it also only puts out IR-C and would be insufficient. I'd add an shadedweller UVB kit from arcadia. You can leave the heatmat inside if you want to, the only risk is it overheating in case a thermostat malfunctions. It's not inherently harmful just not enough to have as the only heat source. 😊

Oh my gosh, she is adorable!!!! She is such a big girl! I have a year old male leopard gecko who has a few health problems ( a deformed eye and he had prolapsed when he was a tiny baby ). I love bioactive enclosures but because of his deformity I have to keep him on shelf liner or paper towel. His name is Harry Smiles and he'll literally come to the front of the glass when you say his name! 🥰
Is there any way you can use loose substrate? Digging enrichment is extremely beneficial for them.
@@nightinggale6470 I've tried before, but it always gets in his bad eye and makes it worse and it's also suggested to not use loose substrate for reptiles who have prolapsed before.

I was thinking of getting a betta fish (properly this time, as opposed to the terrible plastic setup I had in grade school) so I've been looking into what I need. I was the same as you. I wanted a Leo but they seemed so small and fragile. Now I have a big male super giant and I already want another one. They're such great animals to have and it's nice you're teaching your daughter the ropes. Sunshine is beautiful. You definitely got a good one. 🌞

@@SimplyBetta Honestly it's not that uncommon. Especially during this time of year. Nova 🦎 won't do full brumation like some of my beardies, but he slows down a bit and will sleep a bit more. Occasionally he'll skip a meal but it's rare. He's a very food oriented child. 😄 As long as Sunshine doesn't start drastically losing weight, she can live off her badonkadonk (tail) for a good while.

Love the tank and Sunshine looks like our girl Hagrid.. ( we thought she was a boy at first lol) please keep in mind that under the tank heating is not suggested for leopard geckos.. also uvb lights are suggested along with a heat source. Arcadia makes wonderful uvb lighting for leopard geckos.

That succulent is definitely not dead, lol. Succulents are truly really hardy. It actually looks under watered because the leaves are dry and flaky looking. Over watered succulents will have swollen and squishy petals. Plus if it still has even a little green, it'll regrow. I'd say just prune off the dead leaves and water it again.

@@SimplyBetta 🥰 I hope they grow big and skrong. Honestly it'll probably start regrowing new petals at old nodes where petals have fallen off. At least mine do normally.

She needs a UVB bulb! It's to aid in her vitamin D intake. Looks great!
While they can definitely benefit from having some, it is not necessary. Leopard Geckos are not really active during the day. Not having UVB will not harm it in any way.
@@antonioc5062 they can be active during the day every now and then, especially with a heat lamp/UVB. They’re cathemeral in captivity, active periodically throughout day and night. UVB is highly beneficial and if you want your gecko to thrive, you should provide it.
