I will never understand why some States try and penalize the trucking industry which is literally the heart beat of this country. Just blows my mind....
Revenue
What makes you think they’re trying to penalize you?
@@mattmoschkau84 We're only the most heavily taxed and regulated industry in America.
@@bretroberts950
Idiot.
Oil, tech, banking, and education are the top 4 most taxed and regulated. Trucking isn’t even in the top ten for taxation or regulation.
@@mattmoschkau84 where you get tech from ?
Anything between DC and Boston is an absolute disaster during the daytime. I remember there was a night when the Bronx wasn't congested and a convoy of us truckers were flying through the tunnels going 65. Once in a lifetime and we knew it
What about money in that area for owner operator.
We're gonna have to add Connecticut to the "worst" list, in its own place.
Governor just signed to introduce a road tax for ALL trucks over 26,000 gross to pay 17.5 cpm, by 2023.
Hurting not only the state by cutting down the supplies the state will be getting because of drivers refusing to go to Connecticut, but also killing off local carriers.
Couldn't the FMCSA or DOT file some sort of suit against that?
@@MajorisMons Too early to know about what the FMCSA thinks about it yet.
The DOT though? Nah, they couldn't care less. Already funded by certain road taxes and everything else the state is doing to squeeze as much money as they can out of taxpayers.
@@YouVidTuber
I'm guessing that's something Companies, Customers, and Owner Ops have to worry about, I couldn't image a company driver having to shell out some of their wages to move product through[out] a state for a customer or company.
@@MajorisMons True, but even the companies are going to eventually going to have to raise their prices to deliver to the state
Owner operators can of course take immediate action to decide to just avoid the state unless the load is paying well enough
@@LainPuzzlewell Just starting out you'll probably end up OTR with a company, it's usually what companies look for in new drivers the past few years
So it won't be you paying for it
Unless you wanna become owner-operator right out of the gate, but I wouldn't recommend that with the industry right now, get experience in a company's truck so you can learn what to expect when it comes to expenses
Florida is bad because you can't get loads out most of the time. However, I've never had a problem getting parking.
You must not have gone down to Miami much. Miami is rough and all the parking there is packed and costs money, and you'll probaby fall asleep to gunshots.
Hudson Donnell, where do you get parking?
@@gavnonadoroge3092 North Florida isn't bad as far as parking goes.
South of around Orlando, maybe a little further north it gets real rough.
Panhandle is ok, but Peninsula, not so much.
There are tons of loads going out of Florida.
Appreciate the content today and in previous days. I’m 27yr driver and still like to hear realistic , useable info
Its going to get to the point where California is going to have to make up their minds: Do we want goods? or not?
Shippers should charge according to the " bitch factor".. If its a bitch to get it to you, You will be charged much more just for the hassle. The California special Tax of 20% just because of the hassle.
The only reason it has not been done yet is that California is the 6th biggest economy in the world and nobody wants to lose market share to other companies. Megas don't care because it really only pushes out the OO guys and the small and mid trucking companies. What will happen is that Electric trucks will take over in California and you will see transfer depots just over the border in Arizona and Nevada where normal trucks drop and pick up and only electric trucks come and go inside California.
Thanks brother love the information I'm staying away from them places you guy's rock
Plus I can go without scaling most of the country, but enter California and scale 3 times for the same load.
Like Virginia
When I went through Florida every single weigh station was open all the time😩😩
@@LordKingdomRT10 I dont get to much to Florida. I'm based out of commie California.
@@stephenrogoff I'm not based out of Florida either but I was with my training mentor and he needed to get a load going home so we went to Florida, that's where he's from.
@@LordKingdomRT10 no worries brother. Drive safe.
55 mph on the interstate!? There’s areas of Texas where it’s 85!
As rookie driver, driving in Taxes highway make me nervous
Sadly as an Ohioan we only can go 70 MPH on the interstate, at least that’s better than California or Oregon
Texas used to be 55 for trucks. If you were on I-10 it would take you two days to get across.
Yea but Texas has Texans driving so its still dangerous
@@justanothertrucker7856 So why isn’t Texas one of the top 10 states when it comes to car accidents? If you’ve ever driven in TX for any real amount of time outside of the major metro areas you’d know that TX drivers are actually pretty good compared to the rest of the country, and our interstates are also some of the best. If we didn’t have high speed limits it would take forever to get anywhere, Texas is kinda big if you haven’t noticed.
Northeast corner currently and the reason I typed in worst states to drive to make sure my frustration was valid😂😂😂
I'm not a trucker, but I travel over the road throughout the Divided States of America. I agree with your assessment about the different states. I am glad to know that my home state of TEXAS made it on your "good" state list. By the way, I support and appreciate truckers. Thanks for all that you do!!! I see some of the crazy drivers that you have to deal with out there. Be safe!!
He didn't mention anything on my state, Georgia....so I reckon we are in the "good" category!
I respect the truck drivers - always.
👍
Texas needs to be given back to Mexico.
I drove a tractor trailer for 17 months and I hated driving in Houston, Texas the most of anywhere I went. Not enough parking in Houston or Dallas. Ohio was one of the best states to drive, huge rest areas. I also enjoyed driving in Pennsylvania as the scenery is beautiful and always lots of parking available. Driving across Oklahoma was ok in my book and better than most.
I-20 coming from California is called the "Pet Cemetery" Highway in Texas...
Northeastern trucker here!
Wisconsin - I found that to be one of the easiest states to deal with as a trucker - Most areas seem to have adequate truck parking, and law enforcement mostly leaves truckers alone of course, the roads are mostly flat, and I was usually driving trucks that were governed at 65 mph.... I have been off the road since November 2014 due to injury....I agree with you 100% about California, for too many reasons to get into here ....
Cool video 👍👍
ARLENE'S! That place is always an amazing place to stop. Used to go to it all the time working with RU as it was a Midway between Chicago area and Ontario. The food there is amazing and the weekend parking is even better. Even when I got there at night there was at least a few spots.
Now that I'm working for a much better company with hopper/dumps, I go there whenever I go along the 94 :)
I used to live in and drive trucks in California back in the 90s. Back in Texas now, recently got back into trucking and run in a non-governed truck running 75 MPH and can’t help but think how they’d likely lock my ass up in California for driving that fast! Love driving in Texas, loved it back in the 90s too. Recently took a load down to Miami and had no issue with parking. Lots of rest areas with plenty of parking plus they will let you shut down at the scales without any hassle. Parking down in Miami sucked though but it sucks in any city.
I love your motives here. I dream of a nationwide community of organization to benefit drivers
🎯💯 I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE!!!
There will be one worse state starting next year. Connecticut will be charging 17.0 cents per mile for truck drivers.
As far as I'm concerned, there's only 49 states, now.
Fock conneticut.
@@3089280288
Don't say that too loud; Connecticut might misinterpret that as foreplay! 🤣🤣🤣
You act like Conneticut is the only state doing this. These governors talk to each other and there are other bills moving through different states moving through their legislatures. Even Republicans are on board with this..they are also the ones big on toll roads. Expect most states to have it within the next 5 years.
I live in Maine. Everything he said about the northeast is true. That’s the area I run all the time. It is definitely tight and crowded
Nice advise
You are correct sir!
Great video! Curious on where you fuel your Big Rig and your discounts
Anyone notice how everyone in the comments is only talking about the bad places? Nobody sees the good in anything.
Yeah but it's mostly people venting.
On point.
You missed one Georgia there’s always an accident on the i 75 the closer you get to Atlanta the worst the traffic and the fight for parking is at a high like no other you’ll be paying for parking
Love this guy, has full reason in all.
yep I had hard time to get out of Maryland this morning , not thru truck I ended up into the city.
It’s actually close to or over $4 a gallon in California.. Oregon is in the low $3 or below in certain areas
Washington is $4.05
The issue with Oregon fuel is no tax paid at the pump, it’s all paid on IFTA filings. Which does mean Oregon fuel is rather expensive compared to a lot of states.
Which is why they ask for IFTA numbers, it’s so they can audit fuel purchases. Which I think he would know that but I’m guessing the guy in this video is a fleet driver or something.
4$ is cheap here in Cali.
As a local truck driver in the Rhode Island and mass area I agree it's ass over here 😂
Not to many areas to park in the virginias either.Tennesse is hard as well .
Right now I do three loads a week from Altoona to Sterling Heights MI and I ignore their no idle law. Reason being is I have to use a C Pat machine because apparently I have sleep apnea. However if I try to run it straight off the battery and alternator the truck tends to shut off before the allotted six hours per night I need to stay compliant. Only once did I get called on it and had a DOT personally knock on my truck. I was told to shut off my truck or get fined where I explained to him I must make sure the C PAT machine is always working or I'm not compliant for my job. That is a federal regulation that supersedes their state law and I invited them to go pull that up on their computer to double check as I pulled it up on my phone. After 10 minutes of him sitting in his car he told the person who called on me something I couldn't make out then left. Haven't had a problem since, but then again I stay at a different truck stop now.
Where else can you score German bier than Muenster tx, Huntington Beach, ca?
Great video 👍
Well Oregon raised speed limit to 60 North and South and east of troutdale it's 65 I'm based out of Oregon and live in California I guess it's just what you get used to
Oregon is only 55 on I-84 between Portland and The Dales. The permit number required when you fuel is a stupid holdover. They don't participate in IFTA anymore. They charge a straight up mileage tax instead now. That's a little odd for a state full of tree huggers since IFTA penalized low mileage trucks and the mileage tax doesn't.
Kentucky is the same
Not bad!
I spent 25 years running the Northeast. I will say western Pennsylvania and upstate new York was ok. Also vermont and new Hampshire. the rest of the Northeast sucked.
NM, VA for sure
And what would be the best in regards to taxes that apply for trick drivers? Any insight on the subject??? Thanks
I run northestern 2 trip a week from QC (reefer) and you forgot they are number ONE in detention time and lumper fee
Back in the 90s we figured Oregon had to be 25 cents cheaper per gallon to be competitive with the road tax figured in
4.19 diesel 6/29/21 at a loves CA
Hi Dave greeting's from Calgary. Are you from Alberta? What kind of oilfield trucking did you do?
Louisiana ,Mississippi, I 20 on both is a bunch of crap they are so messed up that you feel like you’re 4 wheeler
New Jersey. Where the shortest distance between two points is NEVER A STRAIGHT LINE
I found Texas truck stops to be small, considering everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas! No truck parking at Bucees..what's up with that!
I've never had an issue with California. The TA and Petro in Ontario is almost never full
I stay there ones a week and there is always parking and every truck is idling 😂
@@TheDriller100 Lol always. It fills up sure, but never completely full. But they bumped up the price too
Because you have to pay for parking
Having to stage 90 miles away to deliver to any city is garbage.
The northeast especially is definitely a ticket trap. Worse part is it gets more restricted every year.
Oregon is 65 most places and has almost zero traffic. Never had a problem with dot and their fuel tax is just a bond they pay back to you at the end of the year. The shippers are all pretty good about unloading and most don't use capstone unless you haul refer. Imo it's a really easy state to run if you have light loads, beats the absolute shit out of delivering to washington or california imo.
Florida I have been told is not a production state so therefore you can get loads going into Florida but you cannot get loads going out of Florida
Washington and Georgia you can tack on
Oregon wants your ifta because there is no fuel tax in Oregon, dot told me that when I applied for the Oregon permit for my trucks.
this is what I haven't figured out yet for CT. I need to read up on how they feel that charging ifta and road fee is not double taxation.
Oregon charges its own taxes per miles driven. It is a pain.
@@waltmartin92
There is no law against double or even triple taxes.
Oregon doesn’t charge a fuel tax at the pump, instead they charge a tax per mile which is paid with quarterly IFTA filings.
I run ca every week ..my 5 trucks are all pre 2000 and i have never had an issue .. we run dallas to Ontario ones a week avg 9-10k a week per truck.. yes traffic sucks, yes 55mph suck.. but D.O.T dont give a shit about emissions. There is thousands of trucks going into cali on i-10 daily so the possibility of getting a 1k dollar fine over emissions is very very low.
Except for availability of good food and parking space, how does it really bither a driver as to which state he/she is driving into? Will the dispatcher not know who he is sending to which state, what kind of truck it is like make/model etc?
Driving difficulty/ risk of accidents, over enforcement/ abuse of the law by dot and police... those violations, even warnings really hurt drivers and carriers.
Also the way 4 wheelers generally drive varies by area, Chicago and NYC are two cities with very aggressive drivers. Also long Island driving may be the toughest to avoid damage
I would like to know the loads where is the best states to get loads at I'm in the Northeast
That's a question and a half haha
Wow - I remember when a gallon of 89 was like $1.80-2.20.
When I was driving, I hated Northern New Jersey & New York City ( Queens, Brooklyn). I really enjoyed driving in Canada around Toronto.
What about the us, what state is good for driving
Besides fuel prices and the cities, Pennsylvania is great in my opinion
agree.
people from CA now moved to my town a lot….
Hey man California is my state. But right now I'm in Tennessee and damn this is a bad area too many curves and hills. Florida sucks too and Memphis is 55 mph . I hate going thru the northeast . I love the southwest . Midwest is okay . But it's a learning experience for me. I don't mind paying for a spot .
What states of the northeast you hated the most?
@@ashendoski Tennessee, Kentucky, new jersey new York Pennsylvania.
You must really love New England then 🤣. I find Pennsylvania fairly easy and rookie friendly, but hate the traffic going through I95 from mass to jerseys
I wouldn't put Florida as "bad" only because of Parking. Flordia was definitely better than Texas for me. I'd Texas as real bad. Texas is worse than California. Have you seen the maniacs drivers of Texas? Texas drivers are worse than 3rd world. Texas drivers intentionally cut off others including truckers. Houston is probably one of the worst place to drive in all over the world. Drivers going from far left to far right lane on a 4 lane highway :S
Evidently you have never been in Dallas....
All the idiot drivers are moving in from other states. Case in point, absolute worst driving experience ever was driving through Detroit. When the auto industry crashed, everyone in Detroit came to Texas (Houston especially) to find work! After 2009, driving in Houston reminded me much of my experience in Detroit back in the 90s!
Is it better to move to Dallas TX or Houston TX ?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My biggest one is the state of Indiana. The interstates (especially I70) have always been a minefield😡 My federal dollars at work. 🙄
Can anyone tell me their thoughts about Arkansas?-Arkansas resident.
I curse New Jersey roads and traffic everyday.
NE states pay the most per mile though and the trips are short.
I'm a driver too bro...been driving for 13 years now. And you know why califas. Is so expensive..... Cus. We got Disneyland. And we also got the artists...lol..... All you guys be safe out there and God bless....
Obviously u have no clue
what you’re taking about
You didn't mention Connecticut with their new raod tax law passed that takes effect I think 2023...
I personally like wyo MT Iowa NV
Yep
The i40 is the best lane imo
Don't go to a truck stop in Memphis Tennessee and expect a good time. There's a good bit of crime there and some lot lizards. And there's usually no parking after twelve PM
It' was simple for me I never went East of the Mississippi River
I love Texas no weight station or close almost all year around.
👍
Cali is more expensive for a couple reasons.
In no particular order.
1. Because Alot of truckers will simply never enter the state w their truck, so capacity will always be tight there until that changes
2. Taxes, permits, licenses, building regulations etc etc are the most exclusive and expensive to comply with anywhere.
3. Combining first two with the fact it is in fact a beautiful land and always has been means that despite being so difficult, people wanna be there... so that means to some people is worth paying more for everything.
That being said... it seems points 1 and 2 are outweigh point 3... as most realistic and intelligent humans expected to happen in due time.
The loads for California have to pay well right? Other wise why would anyone put up with it
@@noyoucanthavemyhandle yep exactly. Even with rates as they are, alot of truckers consider it a permanent no-go zone.
Texas? Good road conditions? Where have you been in Texas? Once another guy complained to me about the poor road conditions in Navajo land in New Mexico, saying they were some of the worst he's experienced (Highway 491). I later went on it, and in my experience it was about typical of Texas' awfully maintained roads.
Agree with everything except Florida there's large rest areas every 30-40 miles onI 75 and I 10
The further south you go the harder it is to find parking. Other than that Florida is nice.
It doesn't get bad until about South of Arcadia but even then there's travel plazas near Miami/Lauderdale on the turnpike ;)
There's a lot of ppl who want to drive from 12p to 10 pm and then complain its no parking.
If it's no parking wake up at 4 am and drive until 2 then park.
@@Peterblack12 No, if yo start 4am, you finish your day around 8pm

Yes I do agree California is the worst the speed 55 and he will easy pull you for 59 and he will give you a warning ticket wish is no no no parking. Unless the money is double I don’t like to go there
I usually do 59-62 there and never get pulled over
There are drivers that drive to other countries ?
What do you mean like Canada and Mexico? yeah all the time.
Raise your hand if you like west Virginia and Wyoming in the winter time
I'll drive CA all day long, there is lots of freight going in and out of there.
I would never pick Virginia or West Virginia as truck friendly States.
The best States for trucks in my Opinion Hands Down is OHIO, ILLINOIS AND IOWA!

Boycott California. I got 1 fix it ticket just outside Baltimore. Got pulled into a scale at the entrance to a tunnel heading into Baltimore. One of the officers came out of his shack, told me to stay in my cab while he crawled under my. Didn’t even go under my trailer. Came out from under my truck in about 3 minutes and told me that I was missing a retaining bolt on my right side fuel tank strap. About 4 days prior I had a service done on that truck and did a visual personally. Everything was in place. When I was under my truck at that scale I saw fresh tool marks where the bolt was missing. The officer said he knew a mechanic close by and asked me if I wanted to call him. I told him to call. Then I called my boss on a pay phone conveniently located on the end of the shack and told him that what was going on was BS. My boss told me to get it taken care of to get on my way. A mechanic showed up and parked hidden out of sight on the far side of the shack. The officer came back out of his shack and disappeared out of sight, then immediately returned back inside, then reappeared with an $11.00 fix it ticket which I wrote a check for and dropped into a mail box also located conveniently there as well. The mechanic reinstalled the original bolt said it cost $50.00. I gave him my boss’s number, my boss gave the mechanic the number for Com Check which cleared. I was never compensated for that fix it ticket. Happened around August 1989.
All other tickets came from California.
One BS ticket from Maryland, lost track of the Revenue Enhancement tickets I’ve gotten from officers being pushed by Cooked Black Robes, some of whom lied straight to my face.
How did Chicago not make the list of the worst places to drive?
He's listing states, not cities.
Because Chicago isn’t a state you silly billy.
Touché. We have to admit it sure seems like it’s own state. Once you get 50 miles south of it it’s peaceful, low crime and populated by hard working people.
@@gladtohelp1409 crime? lol but you're passing through. Not for nothing but how does that affect you as a trucker?
I can see if it was mad max type crime where they were chasing you in your truck but it's just a small ghetto area in Southside where they're more of a danger to each other than they are to you.

As a Pennsylvanian trucker imma tell yall stay out. Seriously especially those who never seen snow. It's like night of the living swift drivers every winter.
California is the worst state to be a trucker in. 3 out of 4 of the loads I attempted to drop off in California was attempted theft by multiple distribution places. They would always bang on my door claiming the load was short from what the bills mentioned. Once I tell them "how about I count the parcels myself", magically they find the products that were "missing". On top of that, no parking, rude people and no respect for truckers! Stay away!
Conneticut is not the only state doing this. These governors talk to each

Restaurants if open at all are a nationwide disaster
Parking is a national crisis
Stop remembering so far back
This year 2021 these issues are king
How is Wisconsin, Illinois, ohio, and Indiana?
Illinois on the 94 gets busy and usually is . Other then that good to drive in all those states I’ve found.
Depends on where you go in those states. Imo, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan have some pretty terrible highways. My favorite states for interstate road conditions are Missouri, Tennessee and Georgia. Missouri I think has the smoothest highway I've driven on. Ofc, the highway directly around St. Louis is not great but once you get out a little it smooths out. Only wish they'd make them 3 lanes instead of only 2.
Ohio is good, for the most part. No issues but police everywhere.
Indiana is also mostly good. Their rest areas are huge and have parking unless you're coming around midnight.
Illinois is also good, no complaints.
Never been to Wisconsin so can't say anything.
