Paul, this is truly amazing. Hands down awesomeness, especially considering this was 1996 with a 3032.... I know LJ pretty well, and I can't even begin to imagine how I would go about programming this demo in 48 hours! I would be interested to see what you can do in 2013!

    Thanks Boris!
I must give at least half if not more of the credit to Vincent Colbert for his help of this project.
Vincent is now one of the top LD/Programmer in Canada for large TV shows such as the Annual Juno's Award and ECMA's. It's one of those programmer that never run out of ideas.

    @mightyonion
    Thanks!
This fixture was only in production for a short time.
Due to many design flaw it was replaced with the MAC 600.
It took about 48 hours to program this show with two programmers.

@alexxj220 It looks like they have used many different lights fro mthe Martin arsonal at the time. there features multiple Mac 1200 Units that use thier Iris's and frameing shutters and it looks to be many RoboScan's along the back and some RoboColour's mounted in the trussing.

Well done chaps. You can have all the equipment in the world and still not come out looking as good as this.
Imagination, programing skill and alot of patience; that what makes a light show good.
Now I like to see this with MAC 2K please

The MAC 1200 shadow was made like this25 feet behind the white curtain there was a MAC 1200 and 50 feet from the curtain was a PAL 1200.
Very simple, but requires a lot of space behind.

I Must say well done I seriously have no clue how you guys did this. I Own a small amount of newer and older martin gear useing both Exculusively Martin's Protocol, a Mixture of that and DMX and only DMX. Just wished the RoboScans were lighter. Just wondering how did you do the projection starting at 2:40 of the MAC 1200 ive watched this that many times but i cant figure it out?????

That was truley the shit! I cant belive how you made that face with the gobos! The finallee was really good too! I like how jarring it is when the horn's hit and the beauitful colors are instantly gone replaced by strobing white light. well done. What shows do you LD for?

This demonstrates the fact that not only has lighting technology advanced massively (the mac500 was leaps ahead of the 1200) but also that lighting design has too, it might be just the video, but it looks soo wishy-washy and un-co-ordinated compared to lighting shows in modern day large-scale productions.

Jonathan Cook interesting point of view. I think today's show are more fx generated while this show was more theatrical

Id love to get some help on how to program more modern looking shows using that kind of early nineties gear... I have multiple 3032`s, a 2032 hd version and a boatload of all the big Martin protocol only stuff.
(1220`s, centrepieces, MSRzaps, robocolours, 516 dimmercontrollers and so on...)
I`m just getting grip on how everything works, but for live-events you really have to work hard.. you have to change every step, every function, every detail manually. no shape generators or 3d renderings..
Martin really made great stuff back then, the biggest steps forward have (imo) been made in the control interface, not so much in the lighting gear itself.

I agree. I had a bunch of around 12 Roboscans at one point - some 518's and some 218's (I think!) and they were all controlled with Martin's DMX - and it was annoying. I could never find a DMX converter, so eventually sold them of. Anway, 7/8 years later ive just started buying and snapping up Mac250's, 500's, 550's at pretty low prices, though some units do require repair and this can be stressful. As for wash lights, well I'm just not a fan of a 40kg wash head when I can use much lighter and quieter modern LED fixtures. Anyway, I use software for any complicated lighting control and I wonder if Martin's M-Series software supports their own protocol.
