The Netherlands is a BEAUTIFUL country, but instead of reading about it below - just watch the video! We do our best to show you the highlights from our 5+ weeks in "The Low Country". For those of you who want to make this a little more fun, here’s a pop quiz for you:
1) What is adventureViV’s secret tip for Amsterdam?
2) How old was adventureViV when she learned how to ride a bicycle?
3) What is the symbol of the Staverden Estate?
4) Where is the 103 bus going in Madurodam?
5) Which shipping company does the creeper in Rotterdam work for?
Answer in the comments below for a custom adventureViV postcard!
Groningen: Groningen is a charming student city in the Northern Netherlands and the perfect base for visiting the Netherlands’ barrier islands.
Schiermonnikoog: Due to the influence of the tides and its location between the Wadden Sea and the North Sea, the island has a climate that is different from that of the mainland. Schiermonnikoog is characterized by diverse landscapes including beaches, dunes, forests, tidal marshes, lakes and tidal flats.
Amsterdam: Visit the world-famous 17th century capital of Holland. Go for a boat tour on the canals, and stroll through Vondelpark. Amsterdam’s oldest houses, are a national treasure. Many of these stunning examples of architecture, found around the city’s Canal Ring, date back to the Dutch Golden Age when a building tax was calculated by the width of a property’s façade.
Dokkum: You don't even have to close your eyes to feel like you've gone back a few centuries!
Burum: In this tiny town, you will find Windlust, a smock mill which was officially reopened in 2014 on Nationale Molendag - yes, the Dutch celebrate a National Mills Day.
Naarden: Naarden is an example of a Spanish star fort, complete with fortified walls and a moat.
Staverden: Staverden received its city rights in 1298 from the German King Rudolph but has never really become a true city. Staverden is officially the smallest city in the Netherlands.
The Hague: The Hague is the heart of Dutch politics where you will find beautiful museums filled with Dutch masterpieces. Visit the historic Binnenhof, or admire Vermeer's 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' at the Mauritshuis. Our favorites include Mesdag’s Panorama and Escher in het Paleis.
Madurodam: Visit Madurodam and discover all of Holland in a few hours. Ever since the opening in 1952 Madurodam has been one of the most iconic places in the Netherlands.
Muiderslot: The Muiderslot Castle is one of Holland’s most picturesque medieval castles.
Scheveningen: Let’s go to the beach! The Pier is one of the most notable icons in Scheveningen. Nearly 400 metres long and 45 metres high, it runs straight into the North Sea and offers a beautiful view of the village. Video correction: the sun is setting over the North Sea (not the Atlantic!)
Leiden: Leiden is a picturesque university city with many canals, ‘hofjes’ and museums. Leiden also has its own Hortus Botanicus, an impressive university garden filled with plants from around the world.
Rotterdam: Rotterdam is a city of many faces: a tough port city, a trendy modern city, and a hip artistic city. Check out the Maritime Museum when in Rotterdam to learn about Rotterdam’s role as a port city. Don’t miss a walk over the Erasmus Bridge. At its highest point, the Erasmus bridge is 139-meters tall. Known as the 'Erasmusbrug' in Dutch, the bridge has also been lovingly nicknamed The Swan (‘De Zwaan’) by locals due to the distinctive shape of that one, asymmetrical pylon.
Zoetermeer: It’s got everything you need! Zoetermeer was our homebase for our entire stay in the Netherlands - thanks to our wonderful hosts! We miss our daily trips to Albert Heijn in the Meerzicht with Miss Moneypenny. We’ll be back soon!
NEXT TIME: Catch us chasing summer in Portugal!

I'm from the Netherlands and it blew my mind you guys went to Staverden. That's actually really close to my hometown, but I never thought international tourists would go there. Hope you enjoyed it.
Thank you for watching!! We have special reason for visiting Staverden... we think it’s where our family name (van Staveren) comes from, so we had to check it out!! Staverden is so pretty! We enjoyed our visit and would visit again in the future 👍🤗
Schiermonnikoog means the isle of the grey monks. It is the smallest and most beautiful island. In holland we learn biking when we are three or four yeats old. Naarden is stil a great stronghold. That’swhy it has this shape. The painting of Mesdag belongs to the Haagse school of painters. Enjoy

If only more locals would see how others see our country by videos like this. Sometimes I get the feeling many Dutch don't realize what they have. Many love to travel abroad, but sometimes forget they can be in beatiful places without crossing the nations border.

Hello from Leiden. Thank you for this beautiful video of The Netherlands and specially of Leiden, my hometown. Whenever you're back here, you're welcome to be my guide in my own town. Your enthousiasme cheers me up.
Lucia Smit hello, friend!! Thank YOU for watching!! I absolutely loved Leiden and will be back soon! Let’s meet up next time! 😁
Leiden, the centre is one of the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands, the Rapenburg canal is the most celebrated canal in the country, at this wonderful canal is the Museum of Antiquities, nearby is the Medieval Gravensteen, and the 12th century Burcht (castle) upon its motte, and the intersection of the Four Medieval Wards is marked by the blue stone.
Foxglove963 we really enjoyed Leiden and can’t wait to visit again! Next time we will explore all of your suggestions 😁
Such a beautiful smile. And your presentation makes people enthusiastic. By the way...If your boyfriend leaves you, come live with me in the netherlands? Lol.
Thank you for watching! 🤗🤗🤗
Lovely video about different parts of the Netherlands. You even visited Staverden, the smallest place with city-rights (since 1298) in the Benelux! The white peacocks were originally bred in Staverden for their white tail feathers; the dukes of Gelderland used those as plumes on their helmets !!
grewdpastor I thought the white peacocks were so neat! Thanks for the fact - I had no idea the feathers were used as plumes by the dukes!! Wonderful history 😁
I have to say; Love the way you pronounce the Dutch words! You really seem to put an effort in pronouncing things correctly (and you succeeded most of the times, unlike many fellow foreigner)!
Natte Haas thank you so much!! I would really love to learn how to speak Dutch conversationally!
Great to hear your enthousiasm of our small country😃. Its been nice to see your experience in the Netherlands. Love this Movie. 😍 Greetz from Leiden, the Netherlands

Awesome video!
Come sailing in Friesland or watch old freight ships race, called Skûtsjesilen
MIGHTYcbu that sounds awesome!! What time of year is this race?!
@@AdventureViv in 2020:
Skûtsjesilen: July 18th - July 31st
- eleven races at diverse locations in the province of Friesland (north)
Sneekweek: August 1st - 6th
- on the Sneekermeer and city center of Sneek
- around 900 boats of different classes will compete every day
- festivities and cultural events all around town
Thank you SO much for this info!! We’ll see if we can make it :)
And still there is a lot more to see in the Netherlands, have you been to places like Maastricht, Arnhem or Nijmegen. And have you seen the heather fields of Gelderland, the Dutch made polders of Flevoland or the hills in Limburg. There are also a lot of tasty things here in the Netherlands. And there is a lot of culture and history. Think about New York, New Zealand, Dutch Indonesia or the Dutch Antilles. The Netherlands is an amazing and beautiful country. 🇳🇱

You took a kind of drone to film this? Great vid. this is one of the best about the Netherlands.
Jeanette B, we sure did! We filmed with the DJI Mavic; handy travel drone! Thank you for watching, we really enjoyed exploring NL 😁
You missed a part of the Netherlands, the south part, great nature, great food lots to see.
Trust me, I’ll be back! And I’ll be sure to visit the South! Our time in NL was too short, but the South is our priority next visit!
If you like art, van Gogh & nature, go to the Kröller-Muller museum in Park de Hooge Veluwe. Art in nature.
You liked Madurodam(always fun with kids) so you'll probably like het Openluchtmuseum too, a bigger, live-size version. When old buildings were demolished(for highways etc.) some were moved stone-by-stone to this museum in Arnhem, exellent look into Dutch architecture through the ages.
The drielandenpunt is the highest point of the Netherlands, borders with Germany & Belgium. Valkenburg, the castle & the caves are worth seeing, so is Maastricht.
For more border fun, look into the villages of Baarle-Nassau & Baarle-Hertog!
You liked Naarden, you'll like Elburg & Bourtange. Unique cities with moats in special formes. @@AdventureViv

Also it is not uncommon having to drive for three hours by train or highway depending on where you live ...

Saartje05 you’re right! Thanks for the correction 👍 We can’t wait to return and explore more - and we will definitely go east!
Wonderful so many of these vids only focus on the Randstad (basicly the West of Netherlands) but there is so much more to see. Small thing though Scheveningen (actually the whole Dutch coast) technically looks out over the North Sea. From ground level we can't even see the Atlantic at all because the UK blocks our view. :-)

Oh come to think of it, not the whole city was bombed just the largest part the historical inner-city (and than mostly due to the fires).
There is a line of lights in the pavement around the circumference of the bombed /destroyed area, which are turned are on at night and the whole day during WWII remembrance days. During the day the are also very visible because of their size and the red flame logo on them.

jve89. You believe that dire nonsense is English?!? Had friends coming over from England. They phoned to say where is The Hague? I said where are you now? They replied in a place called Den Haag.
For 800 years it was called 's-Gravenhage and Den Haag. Surely if they want to change that for a silly fantasy name then at least a democratic referendum is needed. But it seems you have already submitted to the name change, for which no one offers any sound reason, is there by now some critical thought entering your mind?

@@klopmanwinkel8950 Thank you for apologizing on @millenium2003's behalf :D . That's very kind of you for someone making negative comments! Let them make all the negative comments! I know what I'm good at and I am very grateful for the adventures in my life :) (and it's true, I have lots of adventures in the kitchen! I'm a very good chef :D :D :D )
@@AdventureViv Look, what millenium said is mostly known as just an innocent joke here in NL. At least: in most cases it's innocent meant. You better pay not much attention to either millenium and winkel...
