You should watch late Sudirman's performance of Merisik Khabar who won the Best Performance on the same year. He got a gesture with a lighter which became one of the most iconic performance in AJL' s history. He also performed with all his emotions on the tip of his mic. I always watched it with tears. He is the Best Performer of all time.

In 1990 (if I’m not mistaken) she was involved in a tragic accident which killed her son and she was left with emotional damage for years. My parents told me she couldn’t remember much after that. It also disturbed her ability to sing, like she can’t sing the way she used to before. Sad, but she’s still one of the singers we revere up to this day.

But the controversy that year was when Keliru win despite not the judges' choice lol in the end Liza Hanim still wasn't as celebrated as she should have, drowned in all these cntroversies...

this is her most famous song and it is like art imitates life. she was at her prime before she was in a car crash with her family killing her child and husband. she suffered great injuries to her brain that she was bed bound and cant sing at one point. years later she is recovering and still singing this song - which has a different weight to it as it really sums up her life. starts poor, struggles to get fame and family, then all taken away and she's making ends meet by singing again alone.

It is because of the standard that our old generation singer put is so high such as Ziana Zain and Dato Siti Nurhaliza . Some singer that always got bashed for not capable to hit high note is Nabila Razali , Wany Hasrita and many more.. but for me their singing is really good 😊

You might want to check AJL5 1990..there was a contestant from Indonesia named Endang S Taurina sang the song title 'Sangkar Emas'.. a song by the late A.Ali & Lukhman S.. I believe nationality of the singer is immaterial as long as the song is produced by Malaysian...well it is a competition for Best Song after all... and I think until the latest AJL edition she is the only NON Malaysian who had qualified and performed in AJL so far...😁 but not sure if this rule had changed ... fun fact..AJL 22 2007 song 'Cerita Cinta' originally sang by Jaclyn Victor and Rio Fabian (indonesian) won the best vokal..but the male singer who duet with Jaclyn victor on that night was not Rio but our local artist Lah Ahmad..😅

Zaiton Sameon met with a car accident and she lost her only son.She was in a comma for few months and it was.an effort to be able to sing again. She cant really remember what happened but she lost her voice as the results of that fatal accident. By the way Francesca Peters is Malaysian who was married to British and she stayed in England for few years until her divorce and she's now back in Malaysia.
