- Gonna make this quick... Tengu Man's stage has a different song between the Sega Saturn and Playstation versions of Mega Man 8. I really prefer the Sega Saturn music, so that is one of the reasons why I decided to record this version of the game. The stage itself is hectic with tons upon tons of enemies. The platforming sections are pretty basic with a bit of wind, a ton of enemies, and other little gimmicks.
The big gimmick in this stage is what is basically a scrolling shooter segment. This takes up over half the stage so it more or less IS the stage. You ride along on Rush firing away at enemies. You can collect power-ups which have other characters come in and help Mega Man that include Auto, Eddie, Beat, and Rush will start firing, too. It is a pretty neat gimmick and all... but I have never been too big of a scrolling shooter fan. Ah well.
Tengu Man's a joke in this game. He makes it very clear which of his attacks he will use at each time, so just watch him and react accordingly. Hitting him with his weakness is tricky though... You can only hit him with it when he is close to the ground, and he is only close to the ground after trying to dive-bomb you. This fight emphasizes why the game lets you use the buster while a weapon is equipped... it is just super convenient.

I really liked the idea of actually getting help from the others back at the Lab. I'm kind of sad that other games didn't make more use of this.

To defeat Tengu Man with his weakness, you use the weapon when he swoops down at you.

Tengu Man's attacks may be easy to see coming and avoid, but they hurt pretty badly when they hit. If I remember correctly.
Also, you can reliably hit him with Ice Wave right as he uses Tornado Hold.

@lvcsslacker Tengu are essentially Japanese Wind Goblins. Whenever they feel boastful, their noses get bigger, which has even been referenced in a few anime series.
Tornado Hold? Utility weapon? It's as powerful as Flame Sword and Astro Crush. How does that make it a utility weapon?

Floats you up but yeah, the damn thing can one shot the first stage boss (I usually try out the new weapons on the first stage boss)
I do believe that the Astro Crush and Homing Sniper can destroy that block for the bolt.
I prefer this song over the one in ps1

When I was little I used to look for Tengu on the dictionary because I didn't know what a tengu was, and it was frustrating that not even the dictionary knew either

How do you play the Saturn version? I have the MMLC2, but it sadly has a PS version. How did you emulate the Saturn one? I have found a file of it, but all the emulators work badly or not work at all.
the wind in this stage along with the acid rain in X6 and the rain of meteorites in X4 are the most anoying weather effects i have experienced in videogames.
Hint:
You can hit him with Ice Wave up to three times before he rises up again.
The Ice Wave takes out 5 bars, while a fully charged Mega Buster takes out 4.
I love Tengu Man's theme as well, but I personally prefer the PlayStation version.

I think those exact same sound effects for the charging / firing of the laser were used in battle network 1 when the lifevirus fused
I prefer the PS1 music better, and in that version in the shmup section, it's possible to get all four 'power-ups'. And you can hit Tengu Man a little easier with the Mega Ball given his altitude and your weapon's angle.

Also, the ice wave can actually destroy the tornado hold when it is launched, going right past the attack and instantly freezing Tengu Man.
Yeah, I know quite a bit about this game. It was my first Mega Man game and, even with all its flaws, holds a place in my childhood.

I like the Tornado Hold because the Rush Coil was "conveniently" removed in this game and it's the perfect substitute.

its funny how the robot masters are able to talk, right after they explode
The power-ups have a detail:
Rush, Eddie and Auto will shoot only if you shoot (that's the reason they dosn't stop firing: You're rapid-firing... Well, not exactly, but you understand).
Beat will act only if you use a charged shot.
So, in some way, shooting is the order for your friends shoot LOL

4:05: Astro Crush. At least in the PSX version it takes like 2 to 3 different uses of it all at once though, so you have you be quick on it.

Mega Man 8 may not have been a very good game, but I'll always be a fan of Tengu Man's stage. The side-scrolling shooter sections are hella fun.
Personally, I like the PS1 version better.
Mateoski Productions Me too. Although I don`t think that the this version is not that bad. I didn`t like this version so much first but now think that it is not that bad.
+Mateoski Productions I had the PS1 version, and I find hardly ANYTHING worth disliking the Saturn version over. Except for faster loading. I wonder could you just put the Saturn disc in a cd player and enjoy the soundtrack like with VF2 ?

I remember playing this stage on the Mega Man anniversary collection game for the gamecube....wow I muted the TV cause I hated the song. But WOW THIS THEME IS BADASS!
Rush sounds so cute. Like he's so determined to help Mega Man whenever he's got the chance. If that was the actor's intention, does that mean that Rush's actor was the best in the game? Hmmm....

Press 8 to go straight to the boss
You can RIDE his Tornado hold , then you can easily get into range to GROUND him with the Frost Wave. Hasn't anyone fully realized yet that if you hit ANY of the bossess with their weakness, it usually STUNS them. Take advantage of that...and all of the boss fights will be easier
You can't escape his Tornado Hold once you get in, and he hits you.
I do like this version of Tengu Man's theme, but I personally still prefer the Playstation version.

5:39 You missed a bolt.
If you rode the Tornado hold move , you could point blank shoot Tengu man while he's in the air, and he'd IMMEDIATELY drop to the ground. Then, you could hit him 2 more times in quick succession, and really wear him down.
That's sadly not how things would work out. If you get caught in the Tornado Hold, you will fly into the air without any control to get out. In addition to this, Tengu Man will smash you into the ground. Simply put it won't work because you won't be able to hit him, and he will without a doubt hit you. It's best to just dodge the move when possible. I hope that clarifies why that wouldn't be a viable strategy. :)

While I think the Saturn Tenguman song is "better", it doesn't really fit with the rest of the other Megaman 8 musics. MM8's music has a sort of subtle, ambient tone. Saturn Tenguman sounds more like it belongs in one of the other games in the series.
