Yo that’s my brother on guitar, it’s so crazy seeing him actually get recognition now that he’s in such a big group lol
All the drumlines are doing more meaningful shows this year. Thank god, this sounds kickass
This seems pretty stock WGI. Hella emotional with ramming notes with a very veeerrry vague concept
@@richbrass12 way better than Broken City’s directionless abstractionism and repetitive bland color schemes
No disrespect intended towards the players at BC. They’re all kings.
@@thenelsonbruhs722 I think that's a bit dismissive. I appreciate that BC brought us into a new phase of show design where show concepts aren't spoonfed via cheesy voiceovers, as was the case with most shows from 2012-2016. personally I don't care if BC's shows "mean" anything- what matters more to me is that the writing and choreography is far more emotionally impactful than what most groups are doing. likewise, I don't want to diss what the performers are doing (they're incredible) but I never find myself super shocked or in awe of Pulse's shows in the way I am with BC. Pulse consistently writes challenging, melodic, and captivating music and it's always performed with precision and a lot of emotion... but it's never really surprising. BC is far from the pinnacle of originality, but their music and show designs are always striving to push the activity creatively. BC 2019 was not a "hype" show, but nobody had ever done anything like it.
@@adamgreen4839 yeah that’s a fair argument. And I strongly agree on what you said about cheesy voice lines. I guess to me I just really don’t like abstraction in terms of art.
I strongly dislike BC’s visual style but to say their music isn’t expertly written would be a lie, even though again I’m really not a fan of the abstract style.
I think another thing that makes me dislike the style is the fact that it’s like that every year. I get that groups have their style they do every year but to me personally BC’s shows just look and sound very similar every year. Makes it sorta repetitive for me.
@@thenelsonbruhs722 would definitely agree about the style thing. most BC shows are very similar in tone and I would love to see them branch out more stylistically.
man two things I love, U2 and elite percussion, never thought they'd come together but here we are and it is amazing!
RCC 2018
Thanks for the content brother! What did you use and where did you put it for the audio recording? Sounds killer! Legit sent this video to the pit staff for us to use as a teaching tool because the audio is so clear. 🙌🏻
It's a zoom iq7 mic attached to my iphone that I'm using to film. Was telling John about it at the preview show. I use it for full ensemble videos bc it's directional so it's really focused on wherever you're pointing. So it helps in picking up the battery a little better when they're behind the front but I feel like has a nice balance of both. I don't have the skills to make it sound as nice in post as Sergio does so I need it to be solid out of the gate.
that snare solo moment with the bending synth effects is insane and i cant wait to see that finals night
hope there's going to be a guitar cam for this someday! As a guitarist myself I really want to see how a guitar fits into an indoor percussion ensemble like this :0
This feels like if a broken city show didn’t try to be abstract.
It’s awesome.
Also 1:37 to 1:51 is some amazing writing. Reminds me of RCC.
This show is insane 🔥🔥🔥
xylo player is an absolute chad for moving from marimba last year to xylo this year
I absolutely love when people put their best on xylo
Glad I randomly came back to this video and was scrolling through the comments. Gotta shoutout the xylo love ☺️
