My father was a poor farmer from Western Canada and he shot everything except rodents and big game with his ancient 12 gauge Belgian side-by-side hammer gun, often dropping two or three ducks per shot back in the 1950's when they were thick. He also had a pump action Savage but he rarely used it, favouring his beloved side-by-side. My first shotgun was a bargain priced Italian over-and-under with which I shot countless pests. In the last 20 years I have slowly warmed up to budget side-by-sides such as Baikals, with the Ugatechea double trigger side-by-side boxlock being the Holy Grail I dream about.

Still enjoying my late dad's No.2, bought new from Jeffrey's of Guildford in 1962 for £87-15-0! At that time, General Franco was keen to re-establish the Basque gunmaking industry into overseas markets and was gently subsiding exports. Dad had short stubby fingers and selected one with a slender neck which I can't grip properly, so I've added a few wraps of cohesive tape around it to swell it up a bit to suit me. There's very little chequering left after 60 years!

An over and under is worse if you think barrel alignment has anything to do with it. My son was reluctant to use a side by, but he was cold on a Barretta over and under. The instructor said the side by fit him better. The shot gun was about a 90 year old LC Smith with thirty inch barrels full and full. He went right to the too instantly. Him and his high school team went to State and he out shot everyone. We paid about 1,500 and he out shot over and under guns 10 times the price. They have a nice flat plain and beautiful swing. I was told by the gun club champ. " If God meant people to shoot over and unders ,he would've put one eye on your forehead and one on your chin.kinda makes sense 😜❗

I am fortunate to have a number of guns and one of my favorite upland game doubles is an old English short-chambered 12b with a great deal of drop at the comb and heel. I'm tall and (relatively) lean, so the gun comes up very quickly and points where I'm looking while in a comfortable shooting stance. Why anyone chooses to contort himself around a stock that simply does not fit him is beyond my grasp. Part of my advice to new shooters is to spend a few hours, or days, with a gun such as I've described and you'll see what many generations before you have known.

But it got me curious what would be the best sort of music for the bloke to play for his presentation there? If it was in America it would probably be either bluegrass or country and western. Now if they showed a bunch of rednecks shooting shotguns and had a rap song going with it. That would be insanity

I shot a side by side at sporting clays and won a Boxing Day Shoot, the over and under lads were largely very gracious in defeat, but one guy was mystified how I could do what I did with two triggers, to the extent he bought himself a similar spec. Shotgun to mine, incidentally it was a short Ugartechea, shooting s/s is what I grew up with, the techniques are being lost!
After illness I moved to a semi auto Webley and Scott branded 812, a lot more comfortable but my techniques are very similar with the level shooting Turkish designed repeater, and I have only one trigger which gives you all day to swing and shoot!

Try and find a mid sixties to a late1970s built one the wood can be a little nicer and it wont cost you an arm and a leg for a true English made gun..

The chambers are a casting manufactured separately in the Perazzis, vert typical italian, excellent engeneering, luxury, great finish, high price and cheap barrel construction methods, like much CNC and cast parts, whike the Aya has its barrels fully forged, with chamber and barrel being one piece, and then both barrels welded together, like the most expensive shotguns have traditionally being made since the XiX century.

Good day sir. I have recently purchased two AyA shotguns. The first one is a model 117 imported into the U.S. by Interarms. It looks like a No. 2. Then, I liked it so much, I bought a real No. 2. I thought they were wonderful, but then, bad things began to happen. When I spend 3K plus U.S. dollars on a firearm, I expect a certain degree of quality. I believe I received quality in my purchase except in one area (so far) and I would appreciate your comments. I would like to know if I'm guilty of abusing my wonderful AyA shotguns. I am a product of two cultures. I was a member of the U.S. military for 25 years and I am a competitive high-power rifle and bullseye pistol shooter and because of that, I dry-fire. I dry-fire more than I shoot live ammunition. I thought the AyA would happily go on for years with dry-fire. Anyway, the right side firing pin on the 117 fell out on the floor, broken in half after about 300 snaps without a snap cap being used. I managed to remove the remainder of the pin, mail ordered a new one. It's with the gunsmith getting repaired as I write this. I then, out of paranoia, purchased snap caps for the AyA No.2 and went back to my dry-fire routine. Today, I noticed the right side firing pin was stuck in the firing pin hole and would not retract. It has been peened out of shape from contact with the U.S. made Tripple K brand snap caps. So, should I never dry-fire my AyA or has lightning struck twice? Can I train by dry-firing my AyA if I use a snap-cap? If so, specifically, what kind would you recommend? If I can't Dry-fire, how do I become a better shotgunner? Thank you. Russell Carr

    • @boingkster
      @boingkster 3 года назад

Practicing with snap caps shouldn't be an issue, especially if they have a sprung brass contact like the Tripple K appear to. If you've encountered damage doing so I would seek advice from the manufacturer and perhaps look at claiming under warranty. I would tend to avoid it if you've experienced it more than once. Shotgun primers are much lower pressure items than pistol or rifle - rated approximately 15,000psi / 35,000psi / 65,000psi respectively. This has an impact on their integrity and ultimately how hard they are to strike, and to what standard the pins are made. You may be able to request the smith harden your firing pins by annealing them and let them handle stronger primers or dry-firing, but that would be up to him.

Did my introduction to trap today. I have several tactical type shotguns so I borrowed a friends sxs. I had more fun with the side by side then I ever did with my modified 930. I will def be in the market for a SXS in the following month or so. Sadly I have to return the one I used eventually. The club I was at will allow semi or even pump, but as a shooter it just feels better when you have the proper set up IMO.

The over and under has not got the beauty of a side by side and only a inexperienced game shooter
would not mention the comparable comfort of a side by side on the forearm when standing at a peg.

David, I would love to stop in and take a look around. Unfortunately the drive is a bit long and they haven't built a bridge or tunnel from the US to the UK yet.
Here in the US there is a company called CZ USA and one of their areas of interest is that they import Huglu Shotguns from Turkey. One model is a side by side called the Sharp Tail Target and it is basically a side by side variant of the modern Over Under. It features a modern stock with a slightly raised mid bead rib, a single selectable trigger. 30 inch barrels that converge at 30 yards, and a stock with the same drop dimensions as my Beretta 686 Sporting. Makes it very easy to shoot because the mount is identical, all I have to do is remind myself to shoot the rib and not the barrel. Point is that here in the US it's possible to purchase a brand new shotgun with a full lifetime warranty that is made well and doesn't break the bank. Note, the weak point on the CZ shotguns is the laser checkering, it is awful. However those lines etched into the wood are very easy to follow with a checkering file.

Why is there any reason for you to be harsh on the man. He's doing a better demonstration than you probably could do in the month of Sundays. I don't see any spittle coming out of his mouth. His consonants and his vowels are coming out clearly. If you're an American so am I. If it's the accent that has you rattled. If you was over there you would have an accent. If you are doing your demonstration they might be putting you down for being a yank. But come on now let's get along with folks.

Thank you for your sharing and instruction.
Though it’s within budget, people afford to buy a gun, government doesn’t permit people to buy a gun; buying a gun, it’s a “day dream”. There’s no new license; just can watch video only.
    Your video is highly appreciated.👍
Many Asia people are still under dictatorial & totalitarian ruling, very strict & unreasonable & ridiculous restrictions laws of guns implemented, also with severe punishment, if someone has against, may be put in jail for many years or even more than 100 years or shot to death by government soon!
In Asia, there’s NO REAL democracy, freedom and human right at all; governments are cheating other countries and people in the world.

    • @tonylipton4068

@@czredhead8286 Another very sad thing is many millions Asia people got slaughtered by tyranny, especially communist.
China communist government fostered by Soviet Russia. China communist killed 60,000,000 people & 20,000,000 people got starvation then died.
China communist fostered North Vietnam communist killed millions people and won the battle, Vietnam became communist country.
Cambodia communist killed around 25% people in Cambodia.
India, Thailand, Malaysia also got communist killing, now few communist exists, they may arise any battles at any time.
Singapore is socialism country has very strict laws.
Philippine is messy, but friendly with China communist.
Japan has its management system, but few communist exits.
North Korea was fostered by China communist, it’s despotic, still killing people now; South Korea has to do battle to North Korea at any time.
Taiwan is democratic, but new government still using old laws that were settled in the period of martial law implemented; in that period, a lot of people got slaughtered; what’s martial law? martial law is “no law”, that’s rulers can do whatever they want to do; now there’s few people get cooperative with China communist want to kill Taiwan’s people again, battle maybe happen at any second.
So, many Asia people are still under dictatorial & totalitarian ruling.
Unfortunately, now seldom people got communist thinking, spreading to many countries/areas in the world continuously.
Be carefully, communist are very skillful to cheat people, give candy at first, people got trapped, then killed; all people ruled by a tyrant.
