This confirms that Liverpool weren't as bad in the 90's as some people remember. They were good, just not great. Overshadowed obviously by Man United being so much better than everyone else until Wenger joined Arsenal.

@@paulw6183 City had more top flight points than Chelsea into the mid-2000s indeed there is "only" a 15 year window in the history of the two clubs Chelsea had more total top flight points and that's from the start of the Football league not just the Premier League era... City had more top flight points than United into the 1980s too so.... to say "City were nowhere" is using a very selective set of data. Also worth noting all time points 1980 City placed 6th 1990 placed 7th 2000 8th 2010 9th and now 6th overall so the club have historically been around the spot they are now in terms of all time placing for 50 years, basically the last 10 making up for a pretty crap 80s and 90s.

I'm talking in respect to the position of the clubs before the takeover. Chelsea had qualified for the champions league, been playing constantly in europe for a decade prior and had won domestic and European trophies in the years just before. Chelsea were 4th in this list before the takeover and are 4th now. City were going through a tough period before their takeover and weren't challenging for anything.

Up until Ferguson, City had spent more time in the top flight than Utd.
In fact from 1904 when United changed from Newton Heath, all the way to the 1950s, City had generally bigger crowds and were consistently finishing above them, with more revenue etc.
