I think the most important thing of the "Don't waste time" thing is defining what is wasted time to you. If you used your time doing something that fulfilled you in anyway it wasn't wasted time, it doesn't matter what other people say. Some people give worth to different things, and that's fine, just be true to yourself and your situation.
Wow. When everybody says just focus on one thing even if you become miserable, doing your own thing or things as long as you put yourself into it or them work as well. This is almost like not forcing yourself to just one but finding things that you can pick up that will work in your situation. And most importantly, whatever route you take must suit your desires and skills that are ingrained to you or your soul. When somebody says, "never lose your diversity", it is an advise coming out from an honest observer of how you come across maybe in your work or attitude that is totally opposite to finding a niche that is so limiting for the type of individual. Thank you.
I think advice I wish I had received early on would be that it's fine to make mistakes. That it's fine to end up with imperfect results; it would have saved me from trying to be a perfectionist about ultimately irrelevant details in my projects. When you're fine with making most mistakes, you can move on quicker and on to the next thing more easily, because you can then keep in mind that you can and will likely do better in the future as long as you stick to your craft in general.
