  • Streetcar and Racecar Cooling Systems don't need to be overcomplicated. In this Part one of a 3 part series, Doug discusses the basic principles of radiators he uses to create usable, reliable, and effective cooling systems for the most demanding combos. We deploy these concepts on Street and Race cars alike up to 1500 and 2000 hp combos.

    We have triple pass radiators available here in Australia they work well made in Australia to 👍👍👍 great idea to help people find the right part's for the job

    @3:54 A dual pass radiator definitely does not give you double the cooling capacity, since the fluid is only going through half the core on each pass. More like 5-15% improvement over a single pass radiator of the same size based on some quick google research on the topic :D

      @@jakefriesenjakejust do the math, if your car's at 212F, 5% off is 201F, 15% off is 180F. Also, most aluminum radiators are way thicker than stock. Triple pass is nice but anything is better than stock.

    Yep, triple pass universal from summit have the local radiator shop weld on brackets on where I want cheap and works great, also, go big money on a electric water pump you'll never regret it

      I'm thinking of modding mine to a triple.

    This video say the longer its in the Radiator the better the cooling. Another video he say, People putting underground police that slow down.The water pump Thinking it gives the water more time in the radiator Has been the debunked. I was confused at first and then I figured out, If I drive real fast but not for very long. Then I go to lunch, Some place with the buffet, ever things gonna be cool man👍

    I have a 61 bugeye sprite with a sbc
    The radiator top is lower than the top of the engine
    I have a cap on the top of radiator which is lower pressure and a higher pressure cap on the filler neck at the thermostat housing.
    The top of the engine is higher than the top of the radiator.
    I use a overflow tank on the radiator
    The issue is I'm running 220f
    And the cooling system doesn't suck the coolant back into the system.
    Which caps should I be using?
    I have a triple pass radiator, electric water pump and no thermostat.
    I get about a pint of coolant in my overflow tank
    Both radiator caps might be trying to suck antifreeze back in to cooling system as it cools
    I'd like to run cooler

    Good information been having iusse on a build I pick up has a BBC water pump and some janky hardware store fettings for the upper coolant passages on the block iusse having it get up to 180-200 no iusse about 15-20 minutes of I guess but if I made a pull that those temp it jump to 220 no problem pump is only 35 gpm pump not sure if that even big enough and sure that janky thermostat hardware fitting set probably a culprit to and sound like should probably look into fans too

    Gives me hope! Spent 30k on a H3 Hummer LS3 Swap at Mash Motors Inc in Wichita, KS and the owner sent it back to me as done. But has overheated since day one and still haven’t got it fixed. He took it back charged more money for unneeded fixes that did nothing for my overheating issue. After he couldn’t fix it he just shun me. That’s great for business. So it’s looking like I need a higher capacity radiator. But there will be lots of fabrication involved since there is hardly any room. I just wanted to drive it, but I have learned alot more about LS3 swaps than I ever wanted to know. RUclips University is the best.

    I've seen where a push and pull (fans) have been used. One pulling air from the front, and the one pushing air into the radiator from the inside. What are your thoughts? That's sounds ridiculous to me.

    Only problem I seen with your info I saw. Single pass radiator ok you go to a dual pass without changing anything else....you speed up the flow through the raidator since its only half the surface area per pass. the quicker it flows through the less it has a chance to cool the water. it's thermal dynamics

    I still can't figure out why anyone doing an LS swap doesn't switch to dual-pass side hoses? Even ones who get an after market radiator end up running that God awful 7-foot upper hose to the driver's side! Anyone know the reason behind this before I order a dual-pass and run both hoses to pass side??

    • @SD70ACE-
      @SD70ACE- 4 года назад +1

      Because they don't want to pay $600-800 dollars on radiator when you can use your stock unit for $150

    • @christraudt6730
      @christraudt6730 4 года назад

      @@SD70ACE- you can find a triple pass 3 inch thick radiator on summit for less than 250 bucks.... I understand stock is free in most cases but good radiators don't have to be expensive. I would expect that radiator with an electric water pump and good fans would be enough for ANY street car.

    the only reason u need a dual pass is when the inlet outlet are on the same side of a cross flow radiator ,,simple .....
    THINK ABOUT THIS ..If u make the fluid flow 3x as fast /triple pass this is way way inefficient *****
    Compared to a single pass over 100% radiator area .
    THE BEST is to use the radiator with the biggest surface area facing the incoming air flow .
    max core thickness 2 3/4 upto 3inch
