I love this video, it shows that to truly gap any types of differences, and this could extend to race and sexuality as well as gender, is that “acceptance” is absolutely nothing but the first step. You can, inside your mind, think you are ok with something but it isn’t until you live with it and it becomes a normal part of your life that you can actually adjust to it in a normal, positive way. Everything is a process, everyone is different and to say that we’re all just the same is to undermine these differences in a way that actually draws attention to them in a negative way, turns them into a “taboo”

Learning how to change is probably the most powerful thing someone can learn in their lives.
I work fixing industrial machinery, there's a lot of older people that have never learnt to change how they see and do things. Even if there's a new way to fix stuff that is easier, cheaper, faster and better in every way, some people learn the new ways, some people don't. And for these that don't, I can really see by talking to them that this process of changing has never been part of their lives, they just wake up, do what they always do and go to sleep.
Understanding that sometimes things change and learning how to help your brain to accept these changes can make life so, so much better.
(sorry for any spelling mistakes, english is not my first language)

I have a lot of thoughts about this but I'll keep them to myself.
Per usual I appreciate the maturity displayed in recounting these stories!

That mental labeling thing is something I've noticed too. Don't really know if it is inherently a man thing though. Sometimes I wonder if most people see other people as people, or just categorizations. I imagine women or non-binary people might do this too with certain groups. Like how people will have a "Friend" vs a "Best Friend" vs a "Childhood Friend" vs an "acquaintance" vs a "stranger" vs an "enemy"
Is it a gender thing, or some other sub-type of the population that does this? I don't know. Maybe it gets harder with the type of category of person that aligns with our sexuality. Who knows why we tend to do stuff like this as a species
