    And now we're hitting the road for the first time in TWO days!! We can't wait to see this country and can't believe how much of a downsize this is from our ambulance ... BUT the moon roofs make up for the lack of space 😉

    Epic guys, loving it. I'm a kiwi that has recently moved to London, so these videos are great to watch when I'm missing home :)

    Hi, I'm up in the north Is. Trust me, with a set up like that there isn't anywhere in this country you can't go. You're right, here's nothing to worry about, no predators or anything like that just lots of birds, and possums it's super fun here in the bush, go hard. Most important thing on a nz roadtrip is ALWAYS lock your vehicle, and don't leave valuables in plain sight, other than that just have fun, get freaky, nz roadtrips are great.

    You absolutely need to drive up the west coast, the scenery is amazing, just be aware, it rains a lot on the west coast, but the drive is so worth it.

    that mountain view outside of your stay! so nice! Awesome job on the bed! I’m excited to see how you’ll store kitchen stuff and cook (outside?)

      Thank you!!! We’re just using bins and tables. Can’t wait til it’s all dialled in, but will probably take a few trips to get there. x

    Put air holes in the plywoood under the mattress if you haven’t already! That wood and mattress will get mold if not.

    Wow! I never thought a bed would fit in the back of a Discovery, what's the length of the mattress/sleeping area (I'm sorry if you mentioned it, and I just didn't catch it)?

    • @nickandraychel
      @nickandraychel  Год назад +2

      It’s about 5’11 in length!

      Dam my 6ft3 body!! The only cars we can find at the moment are Skoda Superb Estates which have almost 2m in the back of them. The really old Volvo estate cars would also work but they are rare now.

      @@bertiebassett84if you didn't care about resale, you could probably make the front seats swivel captain chairs, give yourself an extra foot. :D

    So I lived in New Zealand for 3 years, I used to have a green Disco I, and now I am converting an Ambulance. I can say from experience, that Aotearoa is the most beautiful place you will ever live, the people are incredible, and you will be amazed how that tiny Land Rover can get the same pathetic mileage as your giant Ambulance.

    Are you going to camp at Doc sites or camping grounds? Otherwise you need to be selfcontained stickered.

    • @nickandraychel
      @nickandraychel  Год назад

      Doc :) we have no intention of putting a 24L toilet in ANY vehicle with the new requirements. It’s funny because even the ambulance that we lived in full time for 3 years wouldn’t have met the requirements. but there’s plenty of doc sites, and we still feel like we’ll be able to see the country this way :)

    I just discovered your channel guys.
    Word... while you're here in New Zealand there are 3 essentials you should have access to at any given time.
    Number 1 is Sunscreen lotion.
    Use it especially so on overcast days. The fact that this may seem like a daft idea is the reason why you actually need to because clouds offer no protection from the UV rays blasting through them from above. In Australia it gets really hot.
    In New Zealand it can get hot 'AND' fry you in a.very different way.
    Slip ,slop, slap that shit on every day guys!
    Insect repellent is also a must because often near lakes, rivers and other waterways lurk another of our nations dirty little secrets. If you havent already met them, they will eventually find you!
    Sandflys!!! 😅 They loooovvveee newbie bloooooood!
    Especially the stuff from the Northern hemisphere 😂🤣
    A sun hat and a beenie for the cooler days and evenings can improve the comfort levels and when out and about our hiking tracks a lite to medium weight windbreaker should always be part of a day excursion in the event the weather changes and temperatures drop.
    There are a lot of credible.places like walk in i- sites that will gladly clue you up about local things to do and see from town to town and city to city and of course plenty of online advisory links for folks that are new to the country.
    New sub... looking forward to watching more of your local content.
    Welcome home... safe travels!

    Piece of advice. Sell that land rover ASAP and get something japanese.
    Break even if you can but for all that is sane get out of that vehicle immediately. They are junk and will leave you broken down on the side of the road.
