in Canada, even if you have $1 to 2 M in assets, I would still consider you are middle class. It's very easy to lose it all. I think most retirees would have that amount built up, but still have to very cost conscious during retirement. To be considered rich enough to hire tax lawyers, I estimate you need to be worth significantly more than that. To be really safe and not feel any pressure, may I suggest having at least $20M? Either way, I don't think I will ever get there lol.

A person who have all expense covered by passive income, could retire at any age, at the same time, someone could have 2m net worth but live in a 3m home, with 1 million debt, that still not a easy life.
