    Thanks for the update. Since I got my 780G a month ago (which I am very satisfied with, the only bad thing with 780G is that is seems to have the same plastic screen as the predecessors that easily gets scratches) I have started to calibrate my pump as ”one should”. Therefore I am eager to get rid of this huzzle. However I don’t want less correct values, if possible.

    Finally 😄 I was waiting for this new technology, no calibration. I'm on Medtronic pump for 17 years and have a sensor on for 4 years. And that was what I hated of the sensor of Medtronic is to much calibration, especially the first day on. Thank you 😘💗

  • @SignalR532

    You can make a Guardian 3/4 sensor last for up to 21 days. When it expires you disconnect the transmitter with care, making sure you do not dislodge the sensor. Then you reconnet the transmitter to your sensor. The transmiter will flash the green light and your pump will show that it has seen the sensor. You just go through the 2 hour calibration and you will get another 7 days. I have consistantly made sensors last up to 21 days using this method. This is a useful hack if done with care.

    • @saraheart2804

      I have tried this, but because my sensors don't last for 7 days.

  • @yisraels4555

    Sorry but no calibration at the expense of lower accuracy is NOT an improvement. The sad thing is that even with one calibration per day I get almost exact matching with libre 1 / xdrip. How about investing more effort in accuracy, consistent reliable connection to the reader... and yes once a day calibration if it can ensure consistent accuracy.

      So I'm about to jump from medtronic to tslim, already on the g6 for a month now (in the US.) G6 is amazing, I think I have PTSD from the guardian sensors. They're telling us that despite the G6 already being more accurate than the guardian 3 that their guardian 4 which is even less accurate is a reason for me to move to the 770/780g? Medtronic needs to dump the guardian name and tech and start over.

    • @moritz812

      The reliability and usability is unfortunately the worst in all respects (compared to the Libre and Dexcom G6). Although I find the SmartGuard function (automatic basal rate control and auto-correction) helpful. But it is just not reliable. After my second attempt at a CGM from Medtronic, I will switch back to Dexcom - even with the pump.

    Thanks for the update !
    Still no open API on the Medtronic apparently.: so we can still not write our own software to download glucose values without having to send them to medtronic servers first. I wish they would understand that innovation will be driven faster by diabetics themselves.
    The same goes for the control of the pumps. With about 15 year of pump experience, I wish I had more control over the 780G's algorithm.
    Guardian 4: the packaging is in my opinion a shame: all that waste (battery/electronics) just to be used only once. Does not seem the right choice to keep the costs down too.

      @@Nerdabetic I don't think this qualifies as an open API: nothing is published by the company that qualifies this as an open API. If I understand correctly this is a "hack" that still depends on the medtronic care link to send data first to medtronic, but I may be wrong. They have a facebook group - but I'm not on facebook.

      It's all about control. Medtronic has it over every patient and they're certainly not going to give it up without a fight. I have the same concern as you do and once I heard about their methodology and how Carelink worked, I cancelled the install.

    Thanks for your efforts and research! I have used the Guardian 3 sensor before and apart from the two times per day calibration it worked really well for me. TBH it was vastly superior to the libre freestyle CGM, because it was considerably more accurate for me (I'm sure results vary depending on each individual) and also no need to scan to get my BGL, as it is constantly updating via bluetooth. So there was never any data missing because I forgot to scan. I tried the libre sensor and over several sensors it was horribly inaccurate. One of them would be reading in the low 3's or even high 2's but a finger prick test would show up as in the 5's, then it would be semi accurate if my BGL was between 6 and 8 then it would go out of whack again if my BGL climbed above 9.

    just about the start with a 4.
    my only concern with the single unit sensors is the waste problem. perhaps I'm old and decrepit, but when I started I had a needle a month, some cotton wool and copper sulphate solution to dispose of. no more. now 50 years later I need a sharps contain every month plus a bin bag of wrappers and plastic to dispose of. to add a battery to that mix seems totally exploitative of the rare earth minerals.
    but then I am a grumpy old man!

I'm currently trialing the 670g for 3 months .. pump is good, but bulky compared to Animas Ping.. and CGM .. mehh .. I pay out of pocket for CGM here in Canada, so the $99/month sensor deal compared to Dexcom $399/month won me over, but hate the waste with the Guardian 3 and amounting blood testing .

    I'm so sick of my Guardian 3's constant demand for calibration. I find it completely unacceptable that my CGM requires that I use what I consider an inferior meter and that I am unable to manually test my sugar and input the results into the meter. If for some reason my stupid Contour meter were to break, then my CGM goes tits up until I can obtain and connect a new Contour meter. Absurd. Not to mention all of the other insane alerts, buzzes, bells and nonsense that drives me (and, by extension, my wife) absolutely crazy. And having to time my calibration cycles so that I'm not getting alarmed at 3:00 am by the damn CGM. Not to mention how I cannot pre-charge the transmitter such that the sensor replacement, rewarm, initial calibration and recalibration process takes HOURS. What a terrible, awful system. And since I'm in the US, Medtronic cannot and will not offer anything whatsoever to improve anything. I'm hoping my insurance company will cover a switch to Dexcom. If not, I'm sending this shitty Medtronic CGM to the trashbin.

    • @robberhd3218
      @robberhd3218 Год назад

      Can’t you just turn the alarms off and set your low alerts to say 3.5 and only alert ON LOW and not before low. Same with the high good luck 🤞🏻

    • @chuckschillingvideos
      @chuckschillingvideos 8 месяцев назад

      @@robberhd3218 I just gave up, honestly. My insurance company wasn't covering any of the sensors nor replacement transmitters, so there was no point trying to work through any of these issues. HOWEVER, about two months ago the same insurance company on the same plan approved a new 780G pump and, luckily enough, CGM therapy. So, in the year or so since I posted that, Medtronics has released the 4th generation of the sensor, and the improvements are remarkable. I'm much, much happier using the 780 pump with the Guardian 4. It is a massive improvement. Are there things I'd change? Sure, but most of them are somewhat minor and I think should be fixable in the future. The way the overlay tape is packaged is terrible, and frequently they get stuck together in the plastic bag is in, to the point where occasionally one can become twisted and unusable. And for whatever reason that only Medtronics can explain, they don't include an overpatch with the sensors. So once it's on your arm, it's up to you to figure out a way to keep it flopping around and potentially getting caught on things and ripping off. I use a product called Hypafix which is reasonably resistant to water (at least resistant enough to survive daily showering). The good thing about Hypafix is it is readily and cheaply available on Amazon. I have never seen it in a local drugstore. And the two hour sensor warmup after replacement seems unnecessarily long. I doubt very much that anything is "warming up", but that's the term they give it.
