The golden period in Malayalam cinema was from 1984 to 1993. It began with Fazil’s “Nokketha Doorathu Kannum Nattu” and ended with Fazil’s “Manichitrathazhu”. The dark period began with the Shaji Kailas films of the early 90s and lasted till 2011 when Rajesh Pillai’s “Traffic” brought about the next new wave in Malayalam cinema.
From 2000 to 2010 there is so many blockbuster movies in Malayalam Film industry...eg: Narasimham,Ravanaprabhu,Rajamanikyam,Pokkiriraja,Cid moosa,Meesha madhavan lot of etc.... And before premam there is a massive industry hit movie called as DRISHYAM (2013)
You are correct but there is a slight tangent all the movies were mass movies instead of story or character driven movies, in my opinion Malarvaadi Arts Club, traffic ustad hotel and Thattathin Marayathu made the industry realise people will watch good movies without mass and this changed the industry, there can be mass but people like story more if these films failed the industry would still exist but good movies won't (my opinion)

Malayalis watch every movies,beyond launguage.before ott tamil movies were hyped in kerala theatres.vijay fans,surya fans,dhanush fans,vijay sethu pathy fans etc was in kerala along with mohanlal and mamooty fans. In home also,we used to watch tamil movies in tv.Hindi movies were also shown in tv.Through ott,it became more vast.Spanish,french,german,korean,thai...movie lovers could watch every movies beyond barriers of language. But it took a long time for malayalam movies to get noticed.Those who noticed were not disappointed❤.Thanks to all amazing directors,writers and actors- and all other language movies for inspiring them❤.

I am a Malayalam and I have worked as an assistant director in a few films. My experience says that the Malayalam film industry is the best industry in India. Bro if you love malayalam cinema you should definitely watch the movie Guru is the first sci-fi movie in malayalam.
First of all malayalam cinema had no such bad phase. From 2000- 2010 many movies came and collected big from here. But the thing is was only from kerala not from outside. We were limited to our language. Narasimham, rajamanikyam, bigb, chottamumbai, valyettan, raapakal, thanmathra, black, many small movies with good cast came and got apreciated. Some had collected good but some failed to impress. Yet we had quality movies from then on and you guys are not aware of that. The reality is you guys were doing big budget and we were not😂😂 We didnt feel the need.now that you people saw a couple of movies after 2015 mainly and didn't know anything about our past and saying we had a fall and now rose again is really kind of absurd to me. We had quality movies from beginning.compare the size of our population, We never could have scored big back then by using big budget movies. Now the dynamics changed and we have better movues for global audience thats it. We never had fallen we are just going with the trend... Actually nobody cared about our industry other than us back in the times. We celebrated tamil and telugu movies but you people never had such a mindset.it could be bcz of language but anyways we even watched dubbed telugu movies and vijay movies collected high. You are correct but there is a slight tangent all the movies were mass movies instead of story or character driven movies, in my opinion Malarvaadi Arts Club, traffic ustad hotel and Thattathin Marayathu made the industry realise people will watch good movies without mass and this changed the industry, there can be mass but people like story more if these films failed the industry would still exist but good movies won't (my opinion)

2000 to 2010 was never a dark period....it was just that in period movies weren't hyped like now a days....box office collection can never be criteria to decide good movies....movies like premalu are just below average movies compared to old or mid malayalan movies ...these got hyped due to ott platform era

But I need to say that Premam might have did a great job with Tamil audience and in terms of collection but it was Passenger (2009), Traffic (2011) and Salt N Pepper (2011) are the actual movies that acted as path breaking and beginning of New Wave in Malayalam Cinema. In terms of collection Drishyam came first with 50crs.

The main point i felt was In tamil industry stardum is the first priority but in Mollywood,nobody gives any priority for actor and actress. the story ,the script, the acting.
Bro 2000 to 2010 is not a dark period for Malayalam cinema. Cid moosa, runway, aaram thampuran, narasimhan, rajamanikam and lots lots of great movies made my childhood great. Sure these can compete against other industries but it's repeat watch value is greater than todays Malayalam movies

Malayalis watch every movies,beyond launguage.before ott tamil movies were hyped in kerala theatres.vijay fans,surya fans,dhanush fans,vijay sethu pathy fans etc was in kerala along with mohanlal and mamooty fans. In home also,we used to watch tamil movies in tv.Hindi movies were also shown in tv.Through ott,it became more vast.Spanish,french,german,korean,thai...movie lovers could watch every movies beyond barriers of language.
But it took a long time for malayalam movies to get noticed.Those who noticed were not disappointed❤.Thanks to all amazing directors,writers and actors- and all other language movies for inspiring them❤.

First of all malayalam cinema had no such bad phase. From 2000- 2010 many movies came and collected big from here. But the thing is was only from kerala not from outside. We were limited to our language. Narasimham, rajamanikyam, bigb, chottamumbai, valyettan, raapakal, thanmathra, black, many small movies with good cast came and got apreciated. Some had collected good but some failed to impress. Yet we had quality movies from then on and you guys are not aware of that. The reality is you guys were doing big budget and we were not😂😂 We didnt feel the need.now that you people saw a couple of movies after 2015 mainly and didn't know anything about our past and saying we had a fall and now rose again is really kind of absurd to me. We had quality movies from beginning.compare the size of our population, We never could have scored big back then by using big budget movies. Now the dynamics changed and we have better movues for global audience thats it. We never had fallen we are just going with the trend... Actually nobody cared about our industry other than us back in the times. We celebrated tamil and telugu movies but you people never had such a mindset.it could be bcz of language but anyways we even watched dubbed telugu movies and vijay movies collected high. You people are getting to know malayalam movies just by now. Thats it. Nothing more 😂😂
