This film is not just a film, it's an experience, a once in a lifetime experience. I remember watching Akira for the first time back then and after watching it I got this mixed up feelings that cannot be described, my mind is blown away. I just sit for about an hour like a dumb f*ck and then contemplate. From friendship, love, rivalry, jealousy and rebellion to science and apocalypse, then politics, corruption, philosophy, religion, fanaticism, it's just insane!! An incredible film..
Gone with the wind had made cinema more grand, Snow white and the seven dwarfs was the first animated film ever made, But Akira really is the first anime that really drove the anime Genre into a golden age!

I'm someone who has hatred towards religion. Not because of my upbringing but I understand the importance religion has had, the good it has done to bring people together. Like religion helps people have a community and also helps those not to want to kill themselves as they feel they need an answer for a universe with no answers but this film is so good that it is my favorite anime of all time even though the religious aspect and I know there is are analysis of this film being about the atom bomb etc. But I feel for me the biggest theme relates to religion as the entire film itself has to do with godhood and how religious people say that God is the universe, the universe is his/shes/it consciousness
Watched this film with my brother, and the ending was a masterpiece. I agree with the idea of religion which was kinda seen throughout the movie when Tetsuo caused an uprising and being referred to as the Messiah. The flim itself asked the bigger questions like have supernatural abilities or like you said reaching a state of godhood. But other than that, i respect this flim entirely. No, he learned to control his powers and was in the singularity that kaneda was holding at the end of this video. The singularity is the beginning of a new universe where tetsuo has transcended into a god. It's pretty wild lmao
