  • A voyage into very remote lakes in the White Otter Canoe Area in Ontario, Canada, end of May 2024. I spent many hours poring over Google Earth looking at lakes off the beaten path north of Atikokan. I mapped out a series of lakes that looked like they could be a good canoe route but found only extremely limited information about anyone canoeing these lakes. I knew it was possible, but had no specific idea of where portages would be. I did not want to tackle this remote journey solo, but when my youngest son offered to come with me we made it happen. It turned out to be a fantastic trip, physically grueling, but exactly what I had in mind.

Summer of 2023 there were several large blowdown events in the area, mostly around Ignace. Lots of huge swaths of forest knocked down. You were fortunate that most of you portages were in ok shape.
    Thanks for sharing your adventure.
