In Northern Ireland, the political struggle between
Catholics and Protestants seems to be entering a new
and even more violent phase. According to the
authorities, the men behind the disturbances are no
longer fighting for civil rights for the Catholic minority
but for the inclusion of Ulster in a united, Catholic
Republic of Ireland. The violence is being led by the
so-called "Provisionals", a breakaway group from
the Irish Republican Army. The Provisionals' gunmen,
probably no more than two or three hundred strong,
are currently tying down nearly 7,000 British troops,
as well as a sizeable number of Northern Ireland
police. This report looks at both sides of the conflict
and examines the extent to which the troubles are
    disrupting the Northern Ireland economy.

This video would have been much better if the sound effects had not been so much louder than the narrator's voice.

The sound is terrible at best, never mind the roar of 6 wheelers and helicopters making it almost impossible to hear anything at all

@@andrewspence7635 the B Specials were only an extension of the Black and Tans, possibly even worse. What we want is no foreign force in Ireland at all, whether they are Black and Tans, B Specials or British Army. Just think on this, If the failed statelet and the unionist people had been kind to their Catholic neighbour, then there might not have been a need to carry on the struggle for Irish freedom.
However, not to worry as it won’t be long now before we have a United and free Ireland as we are now in the ascendancy. The failed fake statelet only lasted 100 years!

Its not as easy as that, they've had referendums and so far the majority of people in Ulster want to remain part of the UK. If the majority Ulster votes for independence or union with Eire then the British will leave.
Probably because it gets a lot of money from the British government and wouldn't get anywhere like the same help from the Irish government, being part of a 60 million country is always going to be better than being part of a combined total population of less than 8 million people.
