The Driver was Kristian Bale... a.k.a. Batman: The Dark Knight Ferrari knew Ford was getting into racing (it wasn’t as time compressed as depicted). So Ferrari kind of “invited” a buy out offer knowing Fiat was heavily interested. Ferrari used Ford’s offer to get a better deal and prompt Fiat to close the deal. $200/day in 1963 when Ken signed on as primary test driver was essentially $2k/day today. Of course the real time period of the movie spanned about 4 years.
Yeah that is exactly what happened although they played with the time line a little. Instead of a year and half shown, the total timeframe was almost 5 years.
I'm a massive car guy, so I think this is possibly the best movie ever made. There's multiple scenes, and multiple monologues that just give me the goosebumps because they speak to us gearheads so well. Sometimes I start to wonder why I love cars so much, because the car industry sucks so much right now. Every company is churning out the same soulless crossovers and EVs because the suits in charge know they can make more money off soccer moms than car enthusiasts. Makes me sad that people like me are a dying breed. Then I watch something like Ken's Perfect Lap scene, or the Final Race from Speed Racer, and go to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix every summer. Stuff like that reminds me why I love cars and racing and that there are plenty of other people as nuts about cars as I am. Hell, last year the Vintage GP had a tent full of Pre-World War 1 Indy Racers, going in there felt like walking on Holy Ground.
From a guy who builds racing engines, I suggest digging into repair manuals and chatting with mechanics if you decide to crack that head off. There is a lot that could be wrong to cause it to leak. (Warped head, bad deck, a crack in a bolt hole, or even a pin hole in a water jacket.)
This is based on a true story, and they did Leo dirty. By all accounts, Leo Bebe was a humble, good guy who got along with Shelby and Miles. The ruling at the end was because the LeMans administration had never had a tie before, so they decided that the driver who traveled the farthest was the winner. It had nothing to do with Leo.
Another great racing movie you should watch is "Heart Like A Wheel" (1983). It's the story of female top-fuel drag-racing legend, Shirley "Cha-Cha" Muldowney, and her trials and tribulations of competing in a dangerous motorsport dominated by men. Starring Bonnie Bedelia (Die Hard), and Beau Bridges (Jerry Maguire).
- Released in 2019; directed by James Mangold; written by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Jason Keller. - Won two Oscars: Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing. Also nominated for two other awards: Best Picture and Best Sound Mixing - Ford v. Ferrari is re-titled as Le Mans '66 in some European countries. - The scenes that are set at Daytona were filmed in Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Some were filmed off of Highway 46 in Statesboro, Georgia. - Harrison Ford was considered for a role. - The first trailer was shown during Game 2 of the 2019 NBA Finals between Golden State and Toronto. - Christian Bale (Ken Miles) had to lose 70 pounds to play the role, having finished the movie "Vice" as Dick Cheney only a year earlier.
That's a great movie, probably one of my favorites tbh. Thanks for reacting to this. The driver was plaued by Christian Bale, who is a fantastic method actor, he must've lost a good amount of weight to look as close to the real Ken Miles, he has done that in other movies too, that's what the best method actors do, it's not easy tbh, on the contrary. Probably the best metjod actors would be, for me at least, Christian Bale, Joaquin Phoenix, Daniel Day Lewis, Hillary Swank, Gary Oldman, Shia LaBeouf, Viggo Mortensen
You would be surprised at the number of Ferrari owners who also own Ford Raptors, but I get what you mean about say a Ferrari exotic car and a Mustang GT are not going to be cross shopped.
Hey James, I hope you had a good start into 2025. All the best to you and your loved ones! If you enjoy car movies based on true stories, I'd recommend the great movie "Rush" or the less known, but very interesting story about the brand "Tucker" in the movie of the same name. With the always great Jeff Bridges. Fictional, brainless, but great fun is "Days of Thunder". A real guilty pleasure with a stellar cast.
The biggest insult to Shelby that this movie made is that they did not even mention Shelby's victory against Ferrari in 1964, when six Shelby Daytona coupes ran against Ferraris in Le Mans, dominated them in a class win, and almost took the championship. Shelby American, not Ford, was the first American car manufacturer to beat Ferrari at Le Mans. Ferrari only won Le Mans 1964 because Enzo Ferrari convinced the FIA to cancel the final race. Shelby American's victory in 1964 paved the way to Ford winning at Le Mans.

In Europe Ken Miles is known as Ken Kilometers, but because this movie is for international audience, they changed it......

Poor Peter remembers his father's fatal crash vividly to this day. He saw them pulling his body out of the wreckage 😢
@@oliviarogers2808 he wasn’t pulled from the wreckage his body was ejected through the window and was found quite a ways from the car

He did, 4 months ago. That's the other racing movie he mentioned in this reaction.
