    i know this is 'introductory' but feels like the video just started by the time it ended. All you did was give the definition of Art-Net and sACN.

    came back to this topic again...NICE. it's funny since writing in to you I was co-opted to help troubleshoot a wireless setup for a club that wanted to get rid of as much cabling as possible. and for some odd reason the previous tech's decided to run an assortment of Data/powercables all over the place.... long story short, since they were using art-net and a assortment of other data protocols for control/streaming. I simply just compromised and had everything ran on a single line of fiber patches that tapped into a few wireless repeaters. Since my day job is IT based, the adaptation of an IP based network makes this part time job of mine a lot easier.
    There is nothing like rolling up to a gig, with just a cisco switch and a few tx/rx adapters to control sound,lighting, and media. anyways, keep up the good work!

    Oh man I just bought a Chinese King Kong 1024S console and it supports ArtNet and I am so lost because all of my fixtures are 3 pin DMX.
    I’m struggling to midi trigger this console with a laptop and software like Abalton live.
    I was wondering if I can ArtNet from my laptop to my console instead of using usb to DMX cables and if there is any benefit to even do it this way.

      Hey George,
      The general rule (at this point), is that you don't need Art-net unless you are trying to push a lot of universes from one console, or if your lights. For you and where you're at, there may not be any real advantage to using the Art-Net.
      Triggering is very much a console-by-console thing. It's all about what the console manufacturer allows and how they allow you to do it. Because you're using some kind of Chinese copy of a console (which may be technically illegal to own - it looks like an exact copy of an Avolites console), there's no guarantee it will work. You'll need to check your manual or contact their support (if it exists) to find those answers.
      Thanks!

    Is it worth going Art-Net/sACN if I only use 2 DMX strobes daisy-chained together?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад +1

      Probably not!

    • @eucabusas
      @eucabusas 6 лет назад

      I'm planning to copy this setup (spot, strobe, spot, spot strobe, spot) is it correct to assume it's all basically daisy-chained together (standard DMX setup)? Again, is it worth to set it up as an art-net/sACN setup? FWIW, I'm planning to sync the lights with backing tracks (wireless IEM setup) from a laptop on stage so I'll probably use USB DMX with it.
      These are the fixtures I'm considering:
      Cameo Q-SPOT 40 WW
      Cameo Thunder Wash 600 W
      Sorry for my noob questions and thanks a lot!

    Is there a protocol where I can remote access changing the address of an instrument?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад +1

      Yes - but the light needs to support it:

    What I want to know, are they based on UDP or TCP protocols

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад +2

      I believe UDP...but I am not a IT professional!
      However, since both protocols keep sending signals out in repetition (sACN less often, but still once per second or so), errors get corrected pretty quickly.

      They are both UDP.
      The wikipedia pages for each has this info as well.

      Art-Net is TCP. It says so on their own website.

    But what are Nodes? Can anyone explain?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад +1

      Yes - in lighting, a node is generally a "box" that takes Art-Net or sACN signal and converts it back to regular DMX. Note that in computer networking, a node is any computer or device connected to a network, so you may hear that as well.
      You'll probably find my video on networking your first device helpful as well: ruclips.net/video/7GVkX8iOws8/видео.html

    Do you mean 63,999 universes with 512 channels? or 63,999 channels?

      And does the router needs to be connected to the world wide web or not?

      63,999 universes with 512 channels - really!

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад +1

      Not connected to the web is preferred :)

      Ok, got that. Few other questions;
      -I'm using the Sunlite suite 2 lightning program and Imagine that I have some fixtures who support this Art-net, so they have like TPU inputs and outputs, how do I connect them with my computer, because I guess in this way Dipswitches won't work.
      -And when I use that Art-net to DMX interface, does that mean that one dmx cable still only can handle 512 channels or can one dmx cable handle 32.000 universes? Orrr does it mean that I can connect 32.000 dmx cables to one UTP cable?
      I'm really excited to get answers to this :D
      Kind regards

      BTW I'm just an amateur user with DMX stuff, but I'm very interested in this DMX technology.

    What lighting fixtures have over 400 channels I’m just curious the highest amount of channels I’ve seen on a moving head is 22

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад +2

      It usually involves pixel mapping - where you can get control of each individual pixel.
      For example:
      Chauvet Maverick MK3 Wash (297 DMX Channels) (I know, not quite 400).
      60 LED/M Pixel Tape: a standard 5M strip of this takes 900 DMX channels!

    • @Rottwiler44
      @Rottwiler44 5 лет назад +1

      Learn Stage Lighting .com Ya when it comes to pixel mapping, you’re going to have to have a media server in order to run all of data. With a proper set up, the media server will do all the number crunching for the pixel mapping and just tell the board “hey, do this with that fixture over there,” allowing the board to treat the fixture as if it had only one Chanel.

    Doesn't sACN only allow 256 universes?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад

      Nope, 63,999 (here's a official ref: www.rdmprotocol.org/files/What_Comes_After_Streaming_DMX_over_ACN_%20%284%29.pdf )

    • @freddyspaghetti1055
      @freddyspaghetti1055 6 лет назад

      Okay. I'm just using MA NPU, and it has 256 universes, which is "65.536" Parametres. Not adresses

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад

      Correct - you are most likely using MA-Net, not sACN in this case, and as you have found, MA licenses their universes by parameter count.

    • @freddyspaghetti1055
      @freddyspaghetti1055 6 лет назад

      And since the Unit only has 8 outputs, I think i'll be able to achieve 256 universes by using DMX splitters, since you can have 512 Channels down a cable. I'm not sure... Do you have any idea?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  6 лет назад

      Freddy Spaghetti that is where you can use sACN or Art-Net nodes, once you have unlocked the parameters with the NPU.
