First, congratulations on your weight loss and continued journey! I’m a long haired 73 year old who considers myself a makeup junkie. I found a brand I love and I give myself permission to play with it and colors. It just makes me feel better. I just recently became a widow and I’m adjusting to being ok with being me and my own company.
Are you kidding me, 50 is nothing, the prime of your life. Do whatever makes you feel good. I am 81 and could care less what other people think. Be good to yourself!!
I always bring wigs on a cruise, not because I hate my hair, in hot and humid climates, my hair gets curly and frizzy, wigs are my go too, I've also got my hair braided on an Island which lasts the whole cruise, wash and go
Hi Cathy😊I’m 61 and I had given up on dressing nice or putting make up on. I just figured why bother? You’ve inspired me to take pride in my appearance. I very much appreciate all your advice and content. ❤
I laughed aloud when you talked about the heels. That would be me...Grace is NOT my middle name. Wore hair down past my waist all thru my early 60s. You've hit the nail on the head--wear what's comfortable and what you like. Great video❤
Thank you Cathy for a great video. I stay away from clothes that make me look frumpy. My go-to makeup is a bit of foundation or tinted BB cream or tinted sunscreen, powder, mascara, lip colour and a touch of blush. I regularly clean up my closet of clothes that either don't fit me anymore or that no longer make me feel pretty. 😊
Love your channel. On your blazers, consider getting the sleeves tailored to the right length. (Shorter and narrower) You will be shocked at what a difference it will make it your overall look and feel. Happy New Year!
About heels for dress-up -- I love a bedazzled flat for dress-up, with black wide-legged pants, I love that look for evening or a fancy event. Like a flat with some sparkles on it or little sequins or jewels.
What a great uplifting video Cathy! I’m 62, and like you just the last year or two I’ve been finding the way to dress for my personality. A lot of help has come from you since I found your channel. Wishing you blessings and all good things for the New Year ❤
I'm all about fun socks! And cute boots. I never show my feet, preferring cute bootees over open sandals. As you say, wear what's comfy & makes you feel good. X
I love that you are going to dress for your personality. You have a cute personality with a glimpse of playfulness and mischief. I wear wigs sometimes due to thinning hair. And I love that option. Yes, I would love a chatty, get ready with me style makeup or skincare video or two or three 😁❤❤❤
You do you, is my motto I bought some wide leg jeans and they are hanging in my closet. So much material. I did take all my skinny jeans to good will. I have always liked straight leg jeans. At 68 , comfort is my goal. Glad you are determined to be healthier. It’s never too late to be healthier. Good health is a blessing. ❤
Hi Cathy! I completely agree that we as women over 50 can do whatever makes us happy. Of course there things that can enhance or diminish certain things that maybe we don’t or do want front and center. Your videos are fun to watch and always have helpful and smart content. ❤
I agree you should wear what makes you feel good. In the long run if you wear something that doesn’t match your personality, you will feel uncomfortable . I can no longer wear heels, leave those to the young girls. I’ll wear what is comfortable and stylish for me. Would love to see a makeup video. Love and Kindness, Teresa
Hey Cath! Enjoyed the video and yes I'd love more skin care and make up videos please. I'm 53 and I am committed to finding myself again and showing my personality again. I am a caregiver for 27 year old daughter with disabilities and a cancer and stroke survivor too. I have not cared for my skin or how I have looked in quite a long time. Anything will help as I don't have a clue abt makeup that is not what I did in high-school...Thanks a bunch and love your channel 😉!
Hi Cathy Thank You for a great video again!! This is very encouraging and uplifting for us 50+ mature women to know that it's okay to follow our own fashion rules and not what society tell us ❤❤ Thanks again for sharing and being so positive and helpful!!
I say wear what makes you happy so I'm with you on breaking all these rules. One rule that I break is women over 50 shouldn't wear shorts. I live in Florida and there's no way I'll ever stop with the shorts. It gets way too hot here and the apple and inverted triangle shaped women tend to have great legs so why not show them off some.
A slightly belated Happy New Year, Cathy! I hope 2024 is a good one for you. I am well over 50 and still wear my hair long and color it. I'll be doing that until you have to drag me from my hairstylist's chair, lol. I have taken trips to the Caribbean Islands, and one of the best things I have done once I arrived was to have my hair braided. It has a natural wave to it that turns frazzled in the heat and humidity. Once it is braided, the only thing i do is to pour shampoo and conditioner on it when I shower. No fuss, no muss, no styling!
One of my favorite outfits is the one I have on right now. Long sleeve black turtleneck with khaki pants and black simple almond toe boots that have a 1 1/2 inch height regular heel. I have a matching khaki jacket that is 24 years old, it fits like it was made just for me so I really love it. I have various scarves and jewelry that I can mix or match to dress up or down. I bought some rough out suede boots a few years ago so if it is dry outside those match up well also and I wear a white button up classic shirt blouse that really looks sharp with gold jewelry. I love playing around with my accessories for new looks with old pieces that I have had for ages. Some things never go out of style. Thank you for your videos! Congratulations on your successful weight loss you're an inspiration.
I love this type of videos! More makeup videos would also be great---I don't usually wear makeup, but a a map out/blank photo or photo of you---where you apply, to which areas, how ---brush or sponge and the colors/products that you use would be wonderful. ---It would be a lot of work for you, but as a visual learner being able to print out a template with that info would be so helpful. Thanks for all you do the help women feel better about themselves.
I adore you Cathy. You are a true inspiration. I have learned so much from you. I am proud of you also that you are trying styles you previously didn't care for and you are going out of your comfort zone!!! You look great!❤
Love hearing about new makeup and skincare ! Navy and black always ! Monochrome is always great. No big prints, especially florals. I wear white year round . Love the doe behind you ! 😊
Kathy, I think your comments are right on. Wear what makes you happy and feel comfortable. I’m 75, have lost 20 lbs like you did and don’t dress like a 20 year old. I let my hair go silver during the pandemic and don’t regret it for a minute. Looks almost like I get it highlighted. Happy new year to you and I’ll keep watching your videos😊
I like to think I know a bit about and appreciate style, do I hesitated yo watch this video. But I did ..and I loved your discussion on rules wonen over 50 should forget. Thanks!
I just turned 48, I have no plans to hide in 2 years. I think by 'dress your age' they mean dress appropriately, not necessary give up dressing attractive and stylish. Sadly 'frumpy' dressing is associated with being older and many older women put less effort into their style, but I don't think dressing your age over 50 means looking frumpy. I wouldn't dress like a high school student, but still love figure flattering items, bright colors, prints. I also have long hair now and will decide if and when it should change, not cut it just because I lived a certain number of years. I also like chunky heels and wedges, I like looking taller and making my legs longer, but find stilettos hard to walk in. I like tall boots with a shorter dress and tights. I like the 'you do you' attitude when it comes to fashion, it is supposed to be fun.
(lol, I typed this before you got to this one in the video. I could not agree more!). Not a fashion rule but I have long hair -- a few inches longer than shoulder length. I've heard at my age (late 50s) I should cut my hair short. I look AWFUL with shorter hair. I've tried shoulder length and shorter, ick. Looks adorable on some women, not on me. I'm tall and have a longer face and a double chin, shorter hair makes me chins look worse and makes me look like a q-tip due to my height. lol. Anyway! Oh and "you should color your hair.' Um nope. My hair looked dry and damaged when I colored it. It's healthy and shiny and a lovely platinum silver now with natural highlights and low-lights. I love it and get compliments all the time. p.s. I've been looking at wigs and want to try one. Fun!
I'm another one who does not ascribe to the random rules for so-called "older women." I have noticed that as I've gotten older (and I definitely don't feel like the age I am!), I have a very good sense of what is appropriate and looks good on me. I think it just comes with time, trial and error. When I try things on, I know immediately if it doesn't work. If I don't feel amazing, back on the rack it goes. No sense dwelling on it, trying to make it work. I think we naturally develop this sense. Also, we have to be willing to evolve. I find that narrowing down some adjectives to define my style helps when shopping. I'm also an introvert, and think that plays into my love of classics. As for hair, mine has always been long, and lately is shoulder length and is in a tapered bob, shorter in the back. Like you in shorter hair, I feel more comfortable with longer. But I'm sure not cutting it because someone deems me "too old"! I do enjoy your makeup videos (ALL your videos!) and look forward to those. You have a real gift for encouragement!
I think we should wear our hair however we want and what makes us feel good also makes us more attractive and confident. I’m 69 and my hair has grown to the middle of my back. I can get it braided, put it in a bun or put it in different ponytail lengths. Not ready to cut it, while my sisters enjoy their short hair.
I'm an introvert but my clothes don't portray that. I'm 62 years old but don't give a damn about a number and wear what suits me, for me that means dressing according to my body shape not age!. There are no rules in my world just common sense, I'm not going to wear a skirt or dress just past my bottom but have no issue in wearing leather/pu trousers and a tight fitting top. We are a long time dead so enjoy fashion while ever you can, if it's not your thing, that's fine too. I'm so glad I don't listen to the so called 'experts', if I did I would be as miserable as hell.
Yes please do some makeup videos!! I live in Nebraska and hoping Chanel finally releases the reformulated CC Cream in the US. It’s great for dry skin! I used to wear the Chanel foundation you pictured in this video and might have to give it a try if I run out of my CC cream.
Hi Cathy. This is another great video. I agree that just because a woman gets older doesn’t mean she should give up on her appearance. As older women, we have earned the right to wear whatever we like. I also love your makeup videos. ❤
Thank you so much for this video!!! I watched another channel yesterday that was very snobby in her opinions on how women over 50 should dress! She was downright hateful and I left feeling very depressed and like a cheap looking old lady. 😢 Her video was all about what looks cheap. 😢 I am 59 until July and rarely even leave home. We adopted our granddaughter and I homeschool her. I have no need to dress up, I still love leggings and loose tops. If I did have a life outside of my house then I would definitely take your advice! ❤
I wear white all the time. I have a pixie, that's my favorite, but I've been growing it out but as my hair grows it gets thick and bushy. I'm missing my pixie. I'm an Apple shape too. I wear whatever. I'm 64 now and just being comfortable. It's winter here so it's more about dressing warm. I love not dressing up anymore. I You're doing good.
You should of married. Oh well im 61 and very comfortable. I wanted to in my 30's but the man i fell in love with didnt feel the same. I have been comfortable since 50. No regrets😊 watching
Your makeup looks great today! Yes, these rules are ridiculous in this day and age. Glad you feel more confident in your 50's - wish I could say the same! Have been feeling less and less confident the older I get, and I think that's down to the way older people are treated in so many places. I refuse to go into Sephora anymore, which is a real pain, as I really like to see products before I buy, but thankfully Ulta doesn't ignore me the same way. Dressing for your personality is such a good idea. BTW - I hope you ignore the particularly snarky comment below - mean, and nasty.
I realised a while ago that when I finished work I was only wearing jeans and Tshirts. I am now making more of an effort to wear tailored more fitted clothes that are more flattering.
Cathy...there is no help for women over a certain age that are TALL and a Plus size. Not everyone is 5''5". We have been forgotten. But I like your attitude.
I would enjoy some make up videos. It’s hard to find RUclipsrs with more oily skin like I have. I have taken your recommendation and put a flesh colored liner in my lower waterline. I have amazed how much it opens up my eyes. I am 70 years-young. Thank you!
Hi Cathy! I'm letting you know that I look forward to you fashion hauls. I am looking forward to my 59th birthday on this Sunday and I too wear what I feel I want to wear and feel good in it so you go girl.
Know yourself and no one not even society can tell you how to dress. Who cares about what society expects. I’m 73 and i know how to beautify myself. I no longer allow anyone to define me. I’m great at dressing my apple shaped body and your tips are phenomenal. Peace&blessings
Hey Cathy, I really enjoyed and agreed with what you spoke about in this video. I'm 61 and started dressing for me; if anyone doesn't like it, then they can look away😊 Congratulations on your weight loss❤
I get more compliments with my hair longer and natural than I did when it was short and coloured. I agree that you should wear whatever makes you feel great. There are no rules anymore. I am an inverted triangle body shape, which is very common. I noticed that this is one common category that you usually don’t show when referring to body shapes.
I’m looking forward to turning 65. Then I can go on Medicare. I wear whatever I want. I figure if someone doesn’t like what I have on. Then turn your head the other way. And I have a husband who thinks he’s a fashion expert. If he says it’s too young looking for me. I’ll look in the mirror and decide. I don’t take his opinion as the truth. I have had my hair short for years. But I’m trying to grow it out a little now. And it’s too the point I’m ready to cut it all off again. But I haven’t yet. I’ve always worn gold jewelry. But I do have some mixed metal bracelets and earrings. I live in the south. And I wear socks if it’s under 50. At home I wear my crocs to take the dogs out, feed the cats and get the mail. I wore heels when I was young. I do own some kitten heels and boots with block heels. But I’ve worn the wrong cheap shoes for too long. And if shoes aren’t comfortable I will not wear them. And I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot. I don’t wear makeup. But I need to start wearing a little. I’m not getting any younger. Being invisible doesn’t really bother me. I’m happy with myself. And if people want to ignore me. Let them. I can do the same thing. I live out in the country and I really don’t want to be bothered. And I love it here.
Wish I could wear pointed toe shoes 😢. The shape of my foot is very squared off at the toes, so rouned toe are the only shoes I can wear comfortably. And no, sizing up still doesn't work. Way too much empty shoe! I have also found that the comfort of the shoe depends on the last it was made from. Years ago (1970s) Connie shoes made shoes from 2 main lasts and I could wear shoes styles made from one but not the other.
There are no clothes rules!!! There are styles/colors that look better on you than others. Also designers often don't design correctly for plus size people. Trends are just suggestions. Wear what you love!!!
If that happens in public, just speak up. I am 5 feet, and since over 55 feel invisible. So I have to speak up shopping, in restaurants, etc. once buying a car, my husband told the salesman to talk to me, as it is going to be my car!
That is sad Joan, you are not invisible, don’t let yourself think that,I’m 79,a widow since I was35,and I have never felt that way,and you shouldn’t either.I go out to dinner by myself, and have never felt ignored, dress well, walk in with confidence, and you will not be invisible.
Girl, you need to do something with your hair before recommending anything to anyone. You offer information on style and fashion but need to really look in the mirror before offering advice on RUclips. I'm sure you are a nice person but I don't think you are a fashion expert. Congratulations on the weight loss.

Rules are what you allow other people to dictate. I am 73 and since about the age of 21 did not care what other people thought. Grow up folks.
Amen sister❤
Thanks Cathy! For giving us the credit to be able to dress our selves after practicing for about 60 years!
I think the longer hair looked great on you, it makes your face looked slimmer and more youthful
I always bring wigs on a cruise, not because I hate my hair, in hot and humid climates, my hair gets curly and frizzy, wigs are my go too, I've also got my hair braided on an Island which lasts the whole cruise, wash and go
You look just as lovely. I'm 53 and I am too old to care what others think. Confidence is everything.
It sure is! 💖
Hi Cathy😊I’m 61 and I had given up on dressing nice or putting make up on. I just figured why bother?
You’ve inspired me to take pride in my appearance. I very much appreciate all your advice and content. ❤
Thanks for sharing, it makes me happy to hear that you find my tips helpful. Thank you! 💖
I’m 77 and I like to wear whatever I feel looks good on me not what they say I should wear
I agree that we should wear what makes us feel good. Feeling comfortable in your own skin/clothes takes years off! That’s what confidence does!
I laughed aloud when you talked about the heels. That would be me...Grace is NOT my middle name. Wore hair down past my waist all thru my early 60s. You've hit the nail on the head--wear what's comfortable and what you like. Great video❤
I totally agree with these thoughts, especially the mixed metals, I have always mixed my metals in jewelry and glad everyone else is coming on board.
Basically, be yourself. ♥️
Thank you Cathy for a great video. I stay away from clothes that make me look frumpy. My go-to makeup is a bit of foundation or tinted BB cream or tinted sunscreen, powder, mascara, lip colour and a touch of blush. I make my own socks and they never match anything. I love to wear them. Thank you for doing a video on these ridiculous 'fashion rules'.
Thanks for watching!

I LOVE this video, Cathy! Speaking up and thumbing your nose at the Fashion Police. Hah! I agree with you. *Hugs*
Great idea 💡 Cathy. 2024 is for letting loose and breaking fashion rules!! Let’s make ourselves happy and wear what we love and feel comfortable in!!
What a great uplifting video Cathy! I’m 62, and like you just the last year or two I’ve been finding the way to dress for my personality. A lot of help has come from you since I found your channel. Wishing you blessings and all good things for the New Year ❤
Thank you! Happy New Year! ❤️
Yes, I would love a chatty, get ready with me style makeup or skincare video or two or three 😁❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
Love your videos Cathy
Thanks!
Thanks Cathy always enjoy your videos. I agree you should wear what you feel looks good on you. Have a great day!😊
Thank you! You too!
You do you, is my motto
I bought some wide leg jeans and they are hanging in my closet. So much material.
I did take all my skinny jeans to good will. I have always liked straight leg jeans.
At 68 , comfort is my goal.
Glad you are determined to be healthier. It’s never too late to be healthier.
Good health is a blessing.
❤
I like wearing navy and black together too. It looks very elegant. Also I would love to see more make up videos. Thanks ❤️
Agree on both
Hi Cathy! I completely agree that we as women over 50 can do whatever makes us happy. Of course there things that can enhance or diminish certain things that maybe we don’t or do want front and center. Your videos are fun to watch and always have helpful and smart content. ❤
Thanks you! 😊
Great video Cathy, have a great day!
Thank you! You too!
I have a few planned Teresa, have a great weekend! xo
Thank you! 💖
Thanks for another uplifting video. I always feel better about myself after watching your encouraging advice!
You are so welcome!
Love the advice to dress according to your body type and personality! Great suggestion.
Thank you!
I agree with you to a point. Some crazy women think if it fits they must look good. Not True (for alot of items)
Hi Cathy Thank You for a great video again!! This is very encouraging and uplifting for us 50+ mature women to know that it's okay to follow our own fashion rules and not what society tell us ❤❤ Thanks again for sharing and being so positive and helpful!!
I love navy and black together, as long as the navy doesn't look too dark -- then it can look like it was a mistake. But yep, love navy and black!
I live in shorts in the summer too. 😊
Happy New Year!
Thank you!
Great video, as always. Thanks, Cathy.
Love listening to a voice of a regular woman. You definitely are getting better with time
Enjoyed your video. Great take on fashion style and fun. Thanks Cathy
Thanks so much!
Ive always worn what i wanted to wear, and still do! Whether it's leopard print or comfy shoes, if it works for me,I'll wear it.
Sometimes its just adding an up to date scarf or jacket. Above all be comfortable.
very freeing to think about, especially the gold and silver jewelry
I adore you Cathy. You are a true inspiration. I have learned so much from you. I am proud of you also that you are trying styles you previously didn't care for and you are going out of your comfort zone!!! You look great!❤
Thank you so much!
Love hearing about new makeup and skincare ! Navy and black always ! Monochrome is always great. No big prints, especially florals. I wear white year round . Love the doe behind you ! 😊
Your before and after photos are amazing!
Thank you 😊
I like to think I know a bit about and appreciate style, do I hesitated yo watch this video. But I did ..and I loved your discussion on rules wonen over 50 should forget. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fun!
Thank you for encouraging us to try new looks and just have fun with fashion
Would you please review ‘Westman Atelier’ makeup? Particularly the contour and blush.
I’ve tried a lip gloss and it wasn’t anything special. I’ve wondered about the blush.
Lovely video again Cathyxxx Thank you SO much!!!xxx
Glad you liked it!! 🥰
Great video again. You should also try the Chanel No 1 foundation, it’s been my favourite all year!
Thanks, I'll check it out. 😊
Yes please do some makeup videos!! I live in Nebraska and hoping Chanel finally releases the reformulated CC Cream in the US. It’s great for dry skin! I used to wear the Chanel foundation you pictured in this video and might have to give it a try if I run out of my CC cream.
Will do!! 😊
Hi Cathy. This is another great video. I agree that just because a woman gets older doesn’t mean she should give up on her appearance. As older women, we have earned the right to wear whatever we like. I also love your makeup videos. ❤
Thank you 😊
You look great! 🥰
Thank you!!
You look so beautiful in that color of blue!
Thank you so much!
Hi Cathy yes please more make up I enjoyed watching all your videos thank you for sharing your video with us today ❤
❤ Happy New Year Cathy 🎉
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, be yourself you look great 💐
I wear white all the time.
Thank you Fiona! 💖
Bingo! I ask for an older woman when I go to Sephora.
Of course we can wear navy with black! Rhianna has been doing it for years!
I wear similar things to what I always have and I’m 53. I’m also fitter than I’ve ever been and a size 8 (uk 8) so I’m making the most of it
I realised a while ago that when I finished work I was only wearing jeans and Tshirts. I am now making more of an effort to wear tailored more fitted clothes that are more flattering.
I appreciate your makeup videos. Thank you.
I'm so glad! Thank you! 😊
I love your hair style. I think it looks wonderful on you.
Thank you so much!
I can honestly say I have never worn a heel higher than two inches, and that was over 30 years ago.
Cathy...there is no help for women over a certain age that are TALL and a Plus size. Not everyone is 5''5". We have been forgotten. But I like your attitude.
Can some of my plus size tips help even though you are taller than me?
I am sure that some can. But just FYI, there are taller Plus Sized women that are out there that are never talked about. @@stylewithcathyover50 🙂
Loved this!!
I would enjoy some make up videos. It’s hard to find RUclipsrs with more oily skin like I have. I have taken your recommendation and put a flesh colored liner in my lower waterline. I have amazed how much it opens up my eyes. I am 70 years-young. Thank you!
Awesome! ❤️
Hi Cathy! I'm letting you know that I look forward to you fashion hauls. I am looking forward to my 59th birthday on this Sunday and I too wear what I feel I want to wear and feel good in it so you go girl.
Happy birthday!! 🎂
@@stylewithcathyover50Thanks! That means a lot to me.
Congratulations. That is so hard to do especially this time of year. I admire you and enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much!
Know yourself and no one not even society can tell you how to dress. Who cares about what society expects. I’m 73 and i know how to beautify myself. I no longer allow anyone to define me. I’m great at dressing my apple shaped body and your tips are phenomenal. Peace&blessings
I am a fun sock girl too
I agree that these rules are ridiculous. I wear whatever i want that I feel comfortable in.
50 is the new 30, this is how I feel and act
Hi Cathy, you look great!
Thank you 😊
A makeup video would be awesome!
Hey Cathy, I really enjoyed and agreed with what you spoke about in this video. I'm 61 and started dressing for me; if anyone doesn't like it, then they can look away😊 Congratulations on your weight loss❤
Thank you 😊
Hi! i.m 61 also and I.m determined to make and wear more stylish clothes this year. Fun clothes!
I like silver too ,just dont feel right with gold
I like makeup videos.
Yes!! 🤘❤️💪
I wish you would be brave enough to try on New colors, sage, rust etc and not just blue and Black. It would suit you!
I don't like rust or sage, doesn't go with my complextion. I wear blue, black, red and pink quite a bit.
Have a color session to see what colors bring out yourself......😊
There are no clothes rules!!! There are styles/colors that look better on you than others. Also designers often don't design correctly for plus size people. Trends are just suggestions. Wear what you love!!!
Wait till you are over 75, I feel invisible sometimes.
If that happens in public, just speak up. I am 5 feet, and since over 55 feel invisible. So I have to speak up shopping, in restaurants, etc. once buying a car, my husband told the salesman to talk to me, as it is going to be my car!
That is sad Joan, you are not invisible, don’t let yourself think that,I’m 79,a widow since I was35,and I have never felt that way,and you shouldn’t either.I go out to dinner by myself, and have never felt ignored, dress well, walk in with confidence, and you will not be invisible.
my mother got on me for wearing jeans at 30. she tried forcing polyester on me. 🙄
Yeah: More makeup videos for 2024. Cruelty free? Thank you!
Girl, you need to do something with your hair before recommending anything to anyone. You offer information on style and fashion but need to really look in the mirror before offering advice on RUclips. I'm sure you are a nice person but I don't think you are a fashion expert. Congratulations on the weight loss.
I never said that I was a fashion expert! My channel is about uplifting women and encouraging them to feel good.
Beauty comes from within, obviously you missed the boat! What a nasty comment
