You do realize that a firetruck doesn't sound the siren until after the truck is out of the station. You don't sound the siren while the truck is inside the station. It doesn't work that way.

If you’ve been on the job, you’d understand why the Q gets sounded the minute everyone is on board, nobody has time to wait to sound the Q or powercall especially when you have a working fire, hell even if your first due getting out the station and arriving on scene is the priority not waiting till the apparatus is completely out of the station to sound the Q

theres not a specific guide to using sirens or horns the driver/officer uses them whenever they feel the need or find it necessary

Roof Rats is a great nickname. Personally, I can't stand Qs. Flicking obnoxious & unnecessary. I spent summers in Baltimore at granny's. She lived on Washington Blvd but didn't have AC. Windows open all night. Firehouse at the top of the hill would dump almost every night & scream their Qs down the hill. Not one God-damned car on the street. I couldn't wait to get home to NY for some sleep. As an MPO, I kept the noise makers under control. No need to wake the whole world. Be cautious & move along when you can see your way clear.
