I'm surprised it would be controversial to say that Dib was a "good" character. I thought it was pretty straight forward that Invader Zim is a subversion of the "aliens invade the Earth" cliche that tells the standard story, but from the villain's point of view. In most narratives the protagonist is the hero: an objectively moral character that the audience wants to succeed, and the antagonist is the villain: the objectively evil character that the audience wants the hero to defeat, but Invader Zim flips that so the audience follows and sort of sympathises with the villain (Zim), and only knows the hero (Dib) as a threat to the protagonist. We're not supposed to root for Zim. He's an evil monster attacking the Earth. Dib is trying to save it; he's the best hope for humanity, but in this story he's the antagonist and that's what makes it interesting.
I was always a Zim fan(his oddities reminded me of my ADHD self). Zim is a loveable oddball, and is definitely evil, but Dib is just cruel at times. Zim never wanted to cut Dib into pieces to see what makes him tick, and he never threw what was basically acid on Dib. Dib is a dick
@Kendyl W Dib was one of my favorite characters, no doubt, but he seemed to be a bit more cruel than Zim. Zim is trying to take over the world, so that DOES make him a villain, but that's his job. Dib can just be a dick
@@williamthompson1109 Let me remind you that Zim took organs from children to skip exams and went unpunished, tortured poor Dib with a time machine with pigs, although at the end of this episode he got what he deserved. Not to mention the fact that he abandoned and sacrificed his team for ship
@@williamthompson1109 Actually, the time machine ended up killing Dib, and Zim didn't care for it, so, Zim doesn't even care about other people's death.
I feel I’d still put Dib down a few spaces, maybe just underneath of Gaz. In fact, he’s more interested in exposing Zim to prove that he isn’t crazy more than he is interested in doing it for the good of Earth

Who else but me believes that the so-called "Almighty Tallest" aren't really as tall as they appear? I theorize that they are the same height as everyone else on the planet. But they hate being just like everyone else so much, they decided to make mech suits that would simply make them APPEAR taller. I mean, we've not once seen the feet or real hands of either of these two
@@WickedBinge With the way they talk down to anyone who's smaller than they are. It makes all the more sense that they would make suits that help make them appear taller
Membrane as the most evil? That's just silly. A lot of your reasoning here is fan speculation and unaired episodes. Which means they weren't completed/animated so it's hard to use it as evidence. Jhonen himself said he regrets the way Membrane (and Gaz) were portrayed in the original show, and both were shown to have great character arcs in Enter the Florpus. The scene where Membrane tells Dib that he is proud of him... brought tears to my eyes not gonna lie. :)
I saw it! Despite being by Modern Nickelodeon, I loved every scene of it! Wait a minute... Modern Nickelodeon is responsible for... Invader Zim sill being the incredibly atmospheric, frequently quotable, very strongly educational showit used to be after all those years... I guess I do have some hope for Nickelodoen to even partially improve in the 2020s. As long as it pays attention to how well they handle its older cartoons and their TV movies... Then we won't give up on it! Even IF a majority of of its works are painfully average at best, like the Nickcoms in the 2010s.
I showed my niece this show a few year's back and she though it was stupid. Since the new movie came out she loves it and is obsessed! I wonder if it's because it's popular now, or she is older and has a better sense of humor but I'm glad she likes it lol.
If you're taking unaired episodes into consideration, I'd argue that Zim's way more evil than the tallest. Considering he killed two former tallest, shut power down on Irk twice, and killed a all of the other invaders in impending doom 1. He's shown to not have any regret for the things that he has done when he's at his existence evaluation trial.
Well Irken isn't exactly the... kindest race in the universe so~ it's really hard to say if what Zim did is evil because in a way he technically save half the universe from Irken invasion.
You forget that Zim accidentally killed those Tallest and didn't intend to shut down the power on Irk both times. Hell, he was just "born" when the power shut down.
I never considered Dib to be a villain, If it wasn't for him him would've destroyed the earth at least 10 times. Most of the time I was rooting for him and my favorite episodes are ones where he gets a victory against Zim
I do enjoy that, Dib is an amazing character, but he's definitely got a malicious streak. Knowingly throwing acid on Zim because he found it funny isn't a "good" thing to do, even if it was hilarious. I like Dib, but Zim is my favorite
Thank you. He is not a villian. He is trying to save planet earth but no one believes him. It's like Leo and Marcus from all over again. Expect Marcus was revealed for the monster he is, Zim wasn't and still out to conquer earth and enslave humanity. Also poor Dib, no nobody takes him seriously. An, he is not Cadance from Phineas and Ferb trying to get her brothers for doing and inventing azaming things, she tries to get them in trouble for it. Thank God, she always fails. Dib, I actually want to win because Zim is actually evil and needs to go down.

Zim is just taking orders from his "dad/big brother" figures. Irkens are loyal to their tallest plus like Gir, he's defective only doing what he sees as right. The guy has legit mental breakdowns when Dib stops playing their cat and mouse game, becoming a slob and finding no motivation in conquering earth anymore and when he finds out the tallest lied to him. Zim has to delude himself that the tallest don't hate him so be can go back to his schemes in the movie. Does that justify his evil deeds like ripping out keefs eyes? No, but knowing why hes the way he is makes me sympathize with him just a bit more.
Even if thats true he did it to improve his children and doesn't see them as expendable, Gaz's short temper and hand eye coordination is due to her loving video games so much.
...For real? The Almighty Tallest enslave and destroy planets out of boredom and own half the universe, but they're slightly less evil than Professor Membrane because of a theory and because he's a bit eccentric? That's a hell of a stretch.

Not a single soul in the universe: Zim 3 minutes after being born: Well, time for 5 years of blackout on my home planet . . . And 4 more years of blackout, while breaking out of his education thingie and scaring Scoodge. . . And for two tallest to die. . . And some planets to explode. . . And for me to escape punishment on foodcortia. . . TWICE . . And for me to ascape trial. And overload the brain by being to awful to process. . . And Zim is still not the worst, most destructive person in the show.
I've got to disagree. Gir is not good. Just because he's more interested in goofing off and instant gratification than following his orders doesn't make him innocent. It's been shown on multiple occasions that Gir will readily torment hurt or kill others if he feels like it. I think it's even been shown that if left to his own devices he is capable and willing to completely conquer the world on his own. You can chalk that up to being raised with the negative influence of Zim or even him just not being able to tell right from wrong. But I say the closest to "good" that Gir can get on the spectrum is chaotic neutral.
We can't really say that Membrane is the most evil person without solid proof. Also, Enter The Florpus did remedy him being gone so much and negligent with a hint of favoritism. It's mostly gone, I mean, it's still IZ after all. But the movie is great, just a little softer and kinder than the show was, and I think that played in it's favor personally.
I've got to fault you for putting Membrane at the bottom of the list for what mostly amounts to fan-theory and speculation while completely ignoring any positive character qualities he had in the movie. But I'll give you points for putting Dib near the top and recognizing that he's basically an imperfect good guy (and just a kid) who, despite his motives not always being 100% pure, busts his butt to protect an ungrateful world from alien annihilation.
Everyone: is professor Membrane Irken? Is GIR smart and the true villian? Is Gaz even Dib's sister? What happened if Zim loses his pack? Me: How does Dib looks like without glasses?
hey so this comment is a one year old but my guess is both are made by their dad's DNA and I'm guessing this because we have never seen their mother in any photos or anything. So I'm guessing either their made out of the dad's DNA or Dib is the only clone and Gaz is adopted.
Antagonist: A secondary character that causes problems for the protagonist, typically portrayed as a villain. Protagonist: The main character of a story, movie, tv show, game, etc. The protagonist is typically portrayed as a hero or a good guy. Point being you can be a villain and still be a protagonist. While at the same time you can be a hero and be the antagonist.
Are we just going to forget that Zim murdered 2 tallests before red and purple, destroyed his planet, teleported Earth to another part of the UNIVERSE, destroyed Taks life, and has un-banished himself. Nah, membrane, a character who is almost never on screen, and was completely based on fan theories is placed higher than Zim is
Well, he is not good and not evil, But he killed 2 of the highest and all the politicians, but he also saved the earth, and you can not blame him because he is Defective and his actions are always different. In one case, he wants to destroy the world, and in another place, he saves the world. As for Destroying the life of Tak, He accidentally saved it from destruction. Since if she had become an invader, she would have died with all the invaders in Operation Impending Doom I. and ZIM's distraction saved her life.
Invader Zim is the best. All those entitled parents who went like, "oh this is cartoon is inappropriate, cancel it." Can just stop. It was good but they cancelled it!
Invader Zim was supposed to be EVIL. And those who are saying he’s good, I’m hoping you all see him as a a good Anti-Villain if not a regular ordinary villain. I don’t want to see people calling him a “hero” knowing that he is just a villain protagonist.
Admittedly, Zim could be _a lot_ worse than what he is currently. At least he's actually kinda adorable in the evil kind of way (like RARRGH I'M GONNA KILL YOU ALL).
In my opinion Dib truly is the bravest, most selfless, caring character. He has put his life in danger just to protect the universe, has tried to help random people, which is uncommon for 12-13 year olds, and his motives are the most noble, all this teenager truly wants is to be cared for. Gir is (as far as we know) programmed, Gaz is a sadistic, cruel, egotist, psycothic pre-teen, Professor Membrane is to arrogant, egotistical, and neglectful, Zim is downright evil, cruel, rude, arrogant, megolamanic, sadistic, psycothic, ruthless, and Clembrane constantly proves that he is somewhat uncaring as he doesn't notice how many times he strangles his ''son'' and ''daughter'' and constantly put's together that he's doing the good thing. While he does have flaws like being mischiveous, hotheaded, and slightly self-centered he truly is just a heroic, selfless, sympathetic, brave, caring friendly, polite young boy.
Thank you finally someone who loves dib and sees that he has,is and will always be the hero and sees that he’s the real pure angel in invader zim and the most good
Zim has shown on multiple occasions that he would enjoy having human slaves, why he wanted to get away from willing slaves in that one episode is confusing.
The episode, _Attack Of The Saucer Morons_ ?That's only due to the fact that Zim probably wasn't ready yet to have human slaves considering they would bring attention upon him towards other humans whom wouldn't want to be slaves.
Membrane being the most evil might be a stretch, but the placement I gotta dispute the most is definitely gir. While gir normally isn't capable of evil, in one of the episodes Zim altered his intelligence and he was absolutely a horror to behold. He was viscous and ruthless and had no issue with turning on Zim. that episode proved that the only thing stopping gir from being the most evil character in the series is his inability to focus.
I did remember that dib did think that “aliens” stole him from doing something i don’t remember and experimented on him. So maybe the theory that professor did experiment on his children?
Zim is the anti-villain since he has had intentions of causing the annihilation of the world as Dib Membrane himself. Dib is the anti-hero (who is on the good side yet having selfish motives) or the Hero Antagonist or Antagonist Hero (where the Hero is the antagonist of the protagonist usually because the protagonist is the villain). Invader Zim and Dib Membrane are almost like Light Yagami who is he anti-villainous protagonist and L who is the anti-hero going against the villain protagonist like antagonist hero.
I’ve made that comparison before, I even called this show “American death note” because of the similarities between Dibs and L between being hero antagonists, having black hair, goal being to prove the true nature of the villain protagonist, and being smarter than normal I even joked about a crack theory that Dibs was L as a kid
Nickelodeon- we are cancelling you because your not popular *Decades later when it becomes one of the most popular cartoons* Nickelodeon: well fuck, movie?
Dib isn't a bad guy so his shouldn't be too close to evil side. He's just a kid that thinks freely Also Zim isn't evil either both him and Dib have good hearts in the right places. True they aren't perfect but they are the best at just being themselves. I'm not surprised Dib is so close to the good side. I'm happy Dib isn't evil because I am so much like him. A geek with little to no friends. Who's watching this in 2020?
My list (no comics, only movie and show. I haven’t read most of the comics, but I’ve read a few and to me Dib and Zim are pretty much the same.) 1. Clembrane just wants to help his kids. He’s not smart, he isn’t saving the world, but he isn’t doing slightly questionable experiments. (Membrane is a scientist, all scientists eventually dabble in the dark arts.) he just wants to make pudding, and love his children. 2. Membrane. He neglects his children but he cares about them and encourages them, even taking time out of his literally planet saving work to build a robot for his child. So his only crime is claiming his son is insane and not getting him some professional help, but considering that A.) everyone in this universe is an idiot, or have mediocre intelligence (give me my slaw guy) and B.) that in the movie he doesn’t think his son is insane and thinks it’s just a phase he’s in, Membrane is an overall good character. You did say that he experimented on Gaz, comparing her to a pig, but to be fair Membrane asked her for her permission to do horrible tests in her. His words, not mine. 3. Gaz. Her intentions aren’t evil, she just wants to rid the world of everybody who wronged her, and even though she knows Zim is an alien, she doesn’t want to dissect him for fame or anything like that. Sometimes she takes things too far (Game slave 2) but she’s really justified. 4. Dib either wants to save the world, or become famous for proving that aliens exist, and in Dibs wonderful life of doom, he actually tortures zim in his dream world, but then goes on to try and fight the irken armada if he could. Not exactly pure intentions, but he’s fine. 5. GIR. He’s innocent alright, but that doesn’t make him not a pain to everyone around him. He eats babies (confirmed by Zim) and launches pugs into space for no reason. 6. Ms Bitters. She has a bad mood but actively sticks up for zim when she thinks dib is being racist, and if you actually listen to her she’s spitting straight facts. The universe will explode, melvin’s suit would kill him. She’s a bad teacher, but she can only be accused of sending kids too an underground classroom (which, if the show is canon to itself, is just a bunch of caves with lice monsters.) and just being in a bad mood. 7.Zim is trying to take over the earth to impress the tallest. Not because he wants to take over the earth, not because he loves conquering, but so he can go on conquering more planets. When he takes over the earth he won’t lose his sense of identity, he thinks he’ll just go on conquering more planets. He’s harmless most of the time, but he can be a threat when given the proper time to set up his dumb plans. 8.Tak is the same pretty much, but she’s actually good at it, so she’s evil. 9. The tallest literally want to enslave every race out there or blow them up. In the movie, they do Death Star levels of destruction without a stupid warm up time, and their intentions and actions make them evil. SIDE CHARACTERS THAT NO ONE KNOWS OR CARES ABOUT 1. President man. 2. Keef (Keith?) 3.melvin is same as Keef. 4. Tyrone or whatever his name was, from Dark Harvest, he was the kid dib protected but dib failed. 5. The gym teacher guy 6. Skoodge
good to evil suggestions: Ed Edd N Eddy Rocko's Modern Life Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy Steven Universe Family Guy(Peter is the most evil, I am banking on it!) My list, from Good to Bad: Keef Clembrane Gir Professor Membrane (Obsessed with science? Yes. Evil? Not really) Ms. Bitters Gaz Dib Zim Irken Invaders(Including Tak) The Almighty Tallest The Control Brains
The Control Brains' minds were severely damaged by Zim's evil behavior over the years. This would make him the worst person to ever exist. Not to mention, he has no concern for his own race that he nearly annihilated and even sees it as an accomplishment. He's probably more evil than any other Irken Invader.
@@ZerryBerrytheSpaceRaccoon Nah I don't think so because he's elaborate when it comes to studying humans. I'd say he takes samples of human flesh and eats them. There was one time he had an eyeball in a container and wanted to test on a child's brain.
Actually, I think GIR should have been first or second evilest on this list. There was that one episode where Zim repairs GIR's intelligence chip (or something like that) to make him NOT defective, and GIR just started hijacking all the tech and knowledge around him until he straight up decided that Zim needed to DIE in order for the mission to succeed. That's probably the highest demonstration of evil any character has shown on the show.
People talking about Dark Harvest seem to not really remember the episode. Zim steals the organs because he needs to go to the nursery and don't want to be discovered for not having any human organs. But he even took the trouble of giving those people a replacement for their organs, and supposedly even returned it to them, so it wasn't really out of pure evil.
>Zim harvests the organs of multiple students >Zim rips out the eyeballs of some kid because the kid wanted to be Zims friend >Zim teleports the earth to another part of the universe with the sole intent of destroying it >"It's hard to see him as a threat" Yeah okay
OK but...GIR ate a BABY. Zim didn't make him do that. He did watch it happen, but he didn't order it. GIR did that just because he wanted to. So...yeah, totally not evil.

tbh Zim is actually the most evil character of this show he has little to no regard for life not even for his one piers he tortured multible People and tortured Dib by showing him a perfect future just to take everything from him just because he throw a muffin at him that is really hard to top in my opinion
i think Zim was actually a pretty decent bad guy who became even more evil because he wanted to be noticed by his leaders but his so called leaders were being jerks to him so his bosses are truly very evil..
i would like to see either back to back episodes of family guy and american dad or simpsons and futurama. the thing i enjoyed about the king of the hill and beavis/butthead episodes was being able to compare mike judges works and it would be cool to do the same with the magnum opuses of seth macfarlane or matt groening

I love Gir, Zim, Dib. I think my favorite of the 3 of them is Gir. Just because he’s been my favorite since I was really little. Before my eldest brother Tyler who would’ve been 26 years old today, me and him used to enjoy Invader Zim when we were younger. Tyler died in a car accident in 2017 when he was coming home from college, he was my best friend since I was born.
IMHO not evil, but just...not a good person. Dib is Zim's antagonist, but I have always thought that his goal was to save the Earth from invasion and get famous by exposing Zim. It was shown that Dib would stalk, pursue and forcefully reveal abnormally looking people (who are harmless and want to be left alone) to the public just to prove his point. Even when he was dreaming of his perfect future, it was all about him defeating every threat single-handedly and becoming a celebrity. So, he is quite selfish and he doesn't care about what will happen to the not-dangerous paranormal entities once he exposes them.

He manipulates and controls the entire planet and experiments on children, even forcing them to battle to the death to participate in his studio audience. For half the first season, he doesn't even seem to know who Dib is. This is kind of hilarious, because Dib is literally his clone.
@@bm7792 And that's the problem with a video like this on a show like Zim. Because continuity of the show is all over the place. Which ones you consider canon and which do you not? Especially some that end with characters basically dying.

@@ziyajafar82 the organs I have no defense for, but the time machine plan was to eradicate Dib so Zim could take over Earth with much less opposition

I feel I’d still put Dib down a few spaces, maybe just underneath of Gaz. I say this because Dib has sort of explained before that his reasons for wanting to expose Zim aren’t as moral or pure as one may think. In fact, he’s more interested in exposing Zim to prove that he isn’t crazy more than he is interested in doing it for the good of Earth
Also for the Fame and his own ego, Dib's wonderful life of Doom proved that

I theorize that they are the same height as everyone else on the planet. But they hate being just like everyone else so much, they decided to make mech suits that would simply make them APPEAR taller.
I mean, we've not once seen the feet or real hands of either of these two

Membrane as the most evil? That's just silly. A lot of your reasoning here is fan speculation and unaired episodes. Which means they weren't completed/animated so it's hard to use it as evidence. Jhonen himself said he regrets the way Membrane (and Gaz) were portrayed in the original show, and both were shown to have great character arcs in Enter the Florpus. The scene where Membrane tells Dib that he is proud of him... brought tears to my eyes not gonna lie. :)

Gir is the exact definition of cuteness and ADHD
I wouldn't have put Membrain at the top spot considering we tend to speculate a lot about him, though it is clear that he is super immoral.
I would have put the control brains on top. AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO REMEMBERS THE CONTROL BRAINS!?!? They're the leaders of planet Irk.
Honestly, would that make him the absolute _worst_ character on the show (hell, in cartoon history)?
Well Irken isn't exactly the... kindest race in the universe so~ it's really hard to say if what Zim did is evil because in a way he technically save half the universe from Irken invasion.
At the same time he did save the world when the planet jackers wanted to throw it into the sun.
You forget that Zim accidentally killed those Tallest and didn't intend to shut down the power on Irk both times. Hell, he was just "born" when the power shut down.
He is also Defective and most of the time doesn't necessarily realize the evil he's committed.

Zim is a sympathetic villain protagonist, he firmly qualifies as "Stupid Evil"
We can't really say that Membrane is the most evil person without solid proof. Also, Enter The Florpus did remedy him being gone so much and negligent with a hint of favoritism. It's mostly gone, I mean, it's still IZ after all. But the movie is great, just a little softer and kinder than the show was, and I think that played in it's favor personally.
I enjoy these list, but I don't think you should use unconfirmed theories for these
I've got to fault you for putting Membrane at the bottom of the list for what mostly amounts to fan-theory and speculation while completely ignoring any positive character qualities he had in the movie. But I'll give you points for putting Dib near the top and recognizing that he's basically an imperfect good guy (and just a kid) who, despite his motives not always being 100% pure, busts his butt to protect an ungrateful world from alien annihilation.

Woah was it really that old? How did I come across this show as a kid and become so obsessed with it? I was literally BORN when this came out
In my opinion Dib truly is the bravest, most selfless, caring character.

A geek with little to no friends. Who's watching this in 2020?
My list (no comics, only movie and show. I haven’t read most of the comics, but I’ve read a few and to me Dib and Zim are pretty much the same.)

He probably eats kids off-screen, too. I mean, stealing organs isn't too far off from eating the kiddins, so it might be plausible.

Nah I don't think so because he's elaborate when it comes to studying humans.
I can’t be the only one who thought Mini-Moose was the only one left at the end.
In order from good to evil, I’d say Clembrane, GIR, Dib, Gaz, Miss Bitters, Professor Membrane, TAK, The Tallest, then ZIM

Zim didn't make him do that. He did watch it happen, but he didn't order it. GIR did that just because he wanted to.

tbh Zim is actually the most evil character of this show he has little to no regard for life not even for his one piers he tortured multible People and tortured Dib by showing him a perfect future just to take everything from him just because he throw a muffin at him that is really hard to top in my opinion
i think Zim was actually a pretty decent bad guy who became even more evil because he wanted to be noticed by his leaders but his so called leaders were being jerks to him so his bosses are truly very evil..
Gir is just cute. I would dance for him.
Also, random side note, I love how the tallest treat each other. They act like siblings.
i would like to see either back to back episodes of family guy and american dad or simpsons and futurama. the thing i enjoyed about the king of the hill and beavis/butthead episodes was being able to compare mike judges works and it would be cool to do the same with the magnum opuses of seth macfarlane or matt groening
Agreed! We've actually got Futurama and American Dad in the works. We will be doing Family Guy and The Simpsons, but the sheer amount of characters has us questioning exactly how to tackle them.
Zim: demon on thumbnail
Also zim: closer to the top than the bottom
Me: whaaaaatttttttt
And the made me feel like zim is good-ish
I think they need a new season.
Imma give the sinner medals out myself
Pride - Membrane - He neglects his own family over his work and image, and never thinks he’s in the wrong, for “science”
Wrath - Tak - She spent her whole life wanting revenge on Zim, almost destroying a whole planet to do so
Gluttony - The Tallest - They value food and snacks over their own soldiers
Greed - The Tallest - They want control over the whole galaxy, even if they don’t know what to do with it
Envy - Tak - She wants the role that was given to zim so bad she tried to destroy earth before he can
Darwin - Zim - He spends the whole series making plans that never work, he’s not the brightest

I have the feeling that literally every character in the show is evil
But Zim is very cuuuuute and he sounds like a mouse! 👽👽👽👽💕💖💓💓👽👽👽💓💖💞💕💗🐁🐭
Okay, this video clinches it.
