  • If you've ever seen a Bishu "I produced fake music genres" video then chances are you've probably heard of some of these off the rails music styles before. But what makes a genre fake, where do they come from and why do we gravitate toward them? In this video I'm exploring a few different genres that don't exist and the reasons why people love them so much. I'm approaching this from the standpoint of not only a listener but also a music producer...which means by the end of this video you'll see me producing my own version of "Simpsonwave" or "Dreamcore", making a full song idea from scratch to see if we can really create something unique.

Thank you! Just curious, is there anything you'd like to see me talk about or make a video on? I have some ideas but I'm trying out a bunch of new formats. Thought I'd ask someone who's new around here!

Oh my GOSH this video is SO GOOD!! I love your dissection of these fake genres and the way you merged 80s and punk sound together at the end *chefs kiss*

Thank you for saying this. It’s a little scary trying a new format than I’m used to but I appreciate that you took the time to listen.

Thank you for addressing Simpsonwave and these other styles of music/videos. When I first found them years ago I vibed with many of the songs, aligned with the videos, it gave me a sense of nostalgia and calmness and I find a lot of these genres to be fascinating and very interesting that people actually take the time and effort to make this stuff

I agree. First I found it to be a little weird and overboard but the more I listened to a lot of these genres the more I realized that they have a sound that is unlike any other genre out there so they deserve their own lane. I can appreciate the "made up" genres for what they are now. Mostly lol.

@IAMLXGEND yeah not all of them are quite listenable lol some are even a little too sad but a lot of them have great vibes

On the face of it, RetroWave Punk sounds like Post-postpunk revival. But that song is hot, you need to do more of that.

I’ll have to give that a listen, I’d love to compare the 2. And thank you!

Spotify has pretty much solidified my catlougue in with Lo-Fi beats, and I'm honestly cool with that
I love Lo-Fi - it helped get me through the nightmare called "school" - and it suits my aesthetic, but I'm not strictly a Lo-Fi beatmaker
It's cool how these "fake genres" and aesthetic genres work, and I honestly wish more "real" artists explored these things
Great idea man, sorry I've not been keeping up with uploads
    And awesome song!

    (Also, Fartbox pop..lol)
(Also also, thinking bout what you said on if old stuff was released now...would Jimmy Hendrix be labelled Haircore?)

Haircore lmao. He’d be something interesting for sure.
No worries on keeping up, I know people have lives I just have a gripe with RUclips itself 😅
Also I just played lofi during my Uber rides today. Got a lot of compliments lol

I think you’re looking at it from a much deeper perspective than is necessary. I think these “genres“ are simply to attract a niche. Similar to how “CLICK BAIT titles on RUclips!!??” work.

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  6 месяцев назад

I agree they are there to attract a niche but let’s not act like none of what I said is true. People are making up genres to better fit what they listen to. No listener who says they listen to princess core is trying to attract anyone. They just want to communicate they listen to music that makes them feel like a princess. You have to remember, not all of these made up genres are invented by some person in a corporate setting. Some are made up by the listeners. And they have zero reason to “attract a niche”. I don’t think it relates to clickbait titles on RUclips at all.
