I've had this fan since 2015 and cleaned it for the first time this week. Actually disgusting what gets caught in it throughout the years and incredibly flawed design that we as consumers can't do a SIMPLE upkeep on fans that cost over $60. It took me maybe 5-10 minutes to unscrew everything (remove the stand first then unscrew the backgrill, the screws require a philip's head but many of mine were borderline stripped from the manufacturer so I used a narrow flathead which also got the random two screws that used an allen wrench) and about 30-45 minutes to do a thorough clean where a vacuum and an airduster doesn't do anything helpful like shown in the video. First I used a feather-duster to get rid of the initial layer of dirt, then a basic cloth/rag to go between the front grill. Use a rag for the actual fan part since the fibers won't breakdown in the fan filter but don't go too rough and do damage. I did notice there was still thick dirt/dust bunnies in the grill so I used a straw-broom and poked it until loose. You can try to use can air to blow it off or a vacuum but having a soft brush attachment helped get in the crevices to remove those loose clumps from the broom. Spray some disinfectant on the plastic grill backing that's now unscrewed, and a wipe for the front since you can't remove it from the fan part(you can but i'd rather not deal with the loose cable strip holding the fan to the top buttons)...If you have a legit air compressor, using that helped drastically but be careful when blowing the fan part which can potentially do damage to the fan since it can spin very fast on the right angle.......Hey Lasko, maybe your next design can have a removable back/front grill for an easy dust clean but hey I'm not a part of your engineering team.

Ok on further review it seems like Lasko purposefully made a disposable product that would last 10+ years if it was serviceable but instead is carefully designed to break the day after warranty. Oh yeah, it also has a parasitic current draw 24/7 so it will increase your electric bill even if you don't turn it on. Thanks Lasko!
Another thing that helps is to lightly spray cotton swabs with a cleaner, then shine a flashlight into the vents, and swab the reachable, internal bits to capture some of the buildup. Either way, it's a time consuming pain in the can. We need to stop being a disposable world and companies need to step up and do their part by making products that can be maintained and not thrown out.
My leaf blower does the job. Just put your leaf blower against the tower heater or tower fan. Go up and down both sides (back and front) 2 or 3 times to blast it all the dust out. Do this like every 3 months or as often as you want. Works for me. No more burning dust smell when running my Lasko tower heater. Remember, just because the grills are dust free doesn't mean it's CLEAN. Dust gets sucked through the grills and dust builds up on the motor and electronic parts causing burn smell when running the heater.
Opening your unit, no matter what product DOES NOT void any warranty, even if the company says so. Voiding a warranty for opening a device without damaging it actually illegal. The only way the warranty can be voided(even if you break the warranty void seals) is IF they can PROVE that you caused the damage by opening the device. Simply opening the device if done correctly does not damage it and therefore cannot void the warranty. The only time this doesn't apply is when a device has a special seal (i.e. waterproofing, material protection, etc.) that once your break the seal this special seal needs to be replaced. Now that that's out of the way, I just took my tower heater apart from them, had 4 security torx and the rest were Philips. Once I got the back off, I see the housing/fan/ heater. I proceeded to do a light disassemble of the housing so I could reach the fan and heater core and I use a shop vac with a gentle brush attachment on all the internals and a crevice attachment for any narrow spots. Put the housing back together then the back on, and boom. No more vibration, no more funny smell, no more loud noises, etc. This is simple maintenance and sometimes simply sucking out the back of the heater doesn't work, sometimes you need to get inside of it. Instead of replacing it I purchased a tool kit that had all the bits I need (ifixit mako). The hardest part is getting the correct screwdriver. They make the cutouts for the screwdriver slots so small/narrow that you need skinny long screwdrivers to actually get to the screw. You also want to be careful to not displace or tug on any of the wiring when doing this. That is the main reason manufacturers don't want consumers disassembling their products because most people are mechanically inept and this CAN cause a fire if you fuck up some wiring, and they CAN be held liable if it's not known that you were the one who actually messed up the device. Lawsuits is why most companies don't like their shit worked on, not because they want you buying the same product 100 times.

Some people suggest using an air compressor to clean the blade assembly. I don't own one, but I DO own a LEAF-BLOWER! I cleaned 5 different fans yesterday (different sizes and models) and I couldn't believe how much crap came out of them.
Last time I buy a product of yours now that I know you purposely made it so we couldn’t fix or get into the heater ourselves. It’s a freakin heater not a rocket ship
Last night I used a combo of Qtips, Swiffer dusters and vacuum cleaner for my tower fan. Still see dust deep down inside but got some reachable dust and pet hair out.
I took possession of a home that has four of these Lasko uprights. After watching this 45 second video crammed into 3:13 of content - and reading Lasko get TORCHED in the comments - i’m guessing my fans are destined for the dumpster.
This video is useless. Let me tell you guys my experience after just de-assembling a tower fan of another brand that stalled / stopped turning. Dust will eventually get into the motor where it'll stick and mix with the grease / lube to form a thick crusty sludge that will clog the bearings / shaft and eventually require actual servicing. The friction will either cause it to stop completely, or have poor air flow. Unfortunately many brands intentionally make the motors non-serviceable by the consumer by sealing it with rivets! Fortunately from another disassembly video I watched, Lasko seems to use nuts and screws (unsure if thread-locked). I can't tell you guys how to disassemble your specific model's housing but it's easy enough, and only takes about 8-10 screws. Once you get to the motor: - There will be 4 screws and bolts, unscrew it, and open up the motor. - Slide out the rotor (cylindrical thing that rotates), and you will see a circle with bearings in it. This has to be cleaned with Kerosene / diesel / 100% isopropyl alcohol / or some kind of de-greaser (If you don't have anything just try hand sanitizer, honestly not ideal, but it'll work). - You might need a pin, some Q-tips, or a toothbrush to scoop up and unclog some of the nasty gunk, but try not to damage anything or use extensive force. - Apply WD40, or motor grease on the bearings, and shaft / axle (any part that rotates in contact with another). - If you've washed any of the parts like the fan blades or plastic housing allow it to dry completely! (or you risk short circuiting) - Reassemble, but don't close the housing yet until you've tested it. Should run smoothly again! Wish manufacturers made servicing easier like having a dust filter / panel that slides out, , or using thumb screws to easily slide out the motor from the bottom, but they all want you to toss a perfectly fixable product into the landfill and buy a new one for no damn reason.
unfortunately this video is fine to clean the outside . there has to be a better way to clean the blades inside the fans . the blades collect dust and needs to be vacuumed . that can air spray don't work. its crazy you can't open it to clean it .
Just used my compressor & air gun on my Lasko mini tower, about 80psi, make sure you take outside. May want to vacuum afterwards. Oh, & yeah may want to wear Safety glasses & a dust mask too!
My heater was full of dust on the intake side. I used my **shop vac** with the nozzle attachment in "blow" mode and it blew most of the dust from the front to the back grille. After I vaccumed up the bulk of that (most was caught in the back grille), I blew from the intake side to get the other side of the fan blades and a shoulder on the motor housing, then blew from the front again and vacuumed from the back. Impeccable!
Oh, so Lasko decided not to incorporate a filter of any sort. Okay I was wondering where it was. Probably can just put one on it from the back with some Velcro.
I dissembled this myself and did a through cleaning and then put it back together and works better. Don’t listen to this guy. This guy wants us consumers to waste our money since they mostly care about profits. Right to repair all the way!
This video made me cancel my order on my tower fan.. I heard great things and felt how good the cooling is but what is the point if the tower breaks down in 1-2 year because it is made hard to clean. I'm just looking to replace my 7 year old fan that was easy to clean cause the motor is finally giving out.
@LASKO I wish I never bought one of your fans! What is the point of not being able to clean the inside of the fan where the MAJORITY of the dust and dirt accumulate! My fan sounds absolutely horrible and sets off my allergies every time I use it. I tried to reach out and am very disappointed. I AM NOT A FAN!!!
Dear lasko you make nice looking products but please stop being crooks and make products that are easy to clean and open up without voiding the warranty you force people to buy new products because wanting a clean environment voids our warranty I know you’ll never see this but gotta try
This method doesn't really clean, this just removes the most superficial part of the dust. Lasko should make the back grill removable but they want these to be disposable to make us buy it again. That's a very poor marketing strategy. Instead people get frustrated and don't buy from them. Change your mind.
This Lasko fan is newer than the one I grew up with, which allowed cleaning to be done with a filter replacement. I know y'all bank on money plentiful but it's time to upgrade the tower.
With 73 comments about how bad your product is right there should be enough proof never to support or ever buy this product again if people like us continue to tell other people how bad your product is you guys will go out of business and I hope you do it soon
We here at Lasko are obsessed with the smell of our own farts. So much so that we believe no one else to be capable of doing basic service work on our products. To this end we have made the internal components incredibly annoying to access so that the factory fart smell can never be removed. You’re welcome!
Wish I had seen this before I bought one. Shifty product by a shifty money hungry company. You'd think it'd be a health concern to them that you can't clean the filter.
The “screws” on the bottom of my heater have triangular holes. I guess they want to make sure we can’t open them. I can’t use the heater the way it is so I have nothing to lose by trying!
Tell u wat i learned after rescuing 2 tower fans from beside the dumpster... Give dem thangz a hot water shower using a pet wand or a handheld sprayer... Let em dry for at least 10 hrs... Turn it over... if more water comes out, let it sit another 4 hrs... Clean as hell and been workin' for years... I clean it anytime i see dust around the intake or each Spring... I also clean my a/c the same way, Hot Wash!!! 😉
The tower fan works great, but it is only a temporary fix. You can vacuum the intake and outtake vents until you turn blue, but as soon as dust adheres to the internal blades you're doomed to have dust pellets randomly flying across the room without warning. There's no way to actually clean the interior spinning blades because it is designed not to be accessible. Save your money and instead have ceiling fans installed so you can get up on a ladder and actually wipe the blades clean! An expensive lesson after purchasing five tower fans placed throughout our home.
I agree wit everyone else .these fans succ ..hard to clean and fill up wit dust.. I used a broom and brushed the front and bacc ..and there blowing alot better.but when u pay almost 80 buccs for it .should be better way of cleaning it. I will never buy these fans again bought 6 from amazon ..for the summer .and there not even a year old .and only issue during summertime in ca. But design succs
The real bottom line is that this method of cleaning does little to no good. After searching for affective ways to clean this fan the take away is to through it out and buy a fan from a company that allows you to clean it for your health and safety. I hate the idea of filling up landfills with disposable products from companies that are more interested in money than public health and safety, but you live and learn. it would be nice if this company would learn from the negative comments about there product reviews but that probably won't happen.
In other words “we’re not going to explain what tool you use to take the special screws out because we want you to simply buy a new one, as a vacuum cleaner can’t really get close enough to suck the dust off the inner components.”
I'll never buy another Lasko tower fan. I always take my fans apart twice a year and clean them. The Lasko fan was very quiet when I first got it, but within 3 months, it was becoming much louder. I purchased it because it claimed to be much quieter than other fans and I use it at night. I'm sure it needs cleaning. If I can't take it apart to clean, then it's just another piece of junk
Since purchasing it, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQuBMI30VhO6fDed6NOsYftsoNa8x0UZ5 this fan is a trustworthy companion during the hot nights in Texas for me. The sleep mode is really quiet and gives you smooth wind to cool down. At full speed the fan is quite noisy but also very strong.Only weird thing is that if there is a draught from another fan, the sleep mode would speed up occasionally (getting a bit louder, probably to level 2 out of 4). This never happened so far when I used only this fan though.
The design is awful. Save yourself the frustration and just throw the fan away. The inner blades, where the most debris gets caught, are not reachable by vacuum; and blowing with compressed air will just blow that debris everywhere. If you don't want your money down the drain, you could drill through the TRIANGLE screws in the back and tear them out. I would just buy a Honeywell. The Honeywell latches in the back and comes right off, clearing the way for A FILTER, which is easily vacuumed, and the inner air moving blades, then also easily vacuumed.
Thanks for calling this out. We had missed checking that box on this video. It's fixed now, so you can see the ratings. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused.
It is positively unacceptable that you have created a fan that cannot be cleaned, because vacuuming, compressed, air, and even wiping it down does not get anywhere near the spinning blades inside that are covered with dust after just a few uses. I've even resorted to using the blower for the lawn to try to get the dust out of my fan and it still is not clean. I'm incredibly disappointed that there's no way to clean the blades and will never purchase another Lasko product.
What a RIDICULOUS suggestion by Lasko. I’ll never buy another fan from them with only some elementary instructional video on how to remove 10% of dust on the outside of the fan.
Lasko claims they care about the planet, yet they also make disposable products that need more extensive cleaning than this tutorial provides information on. At least the lasko box fans are serviceable.
This is a good fan, but not being able to take off the front grill to get at the cat hair seems like a HUGE mistake! I have many cats, and the hair somehow gets BEHIND the front grill, and using a powervac just doesn't work at all. Leaving cat-hair inside a space heater seems like a much greater safety hazzard than having pieces you can detach and reattach could possibly create!
Won't be buying a LASKO Product again. You make it impossible for the normal non-handyman/woman to clean the inside. Really embarrassing feature to a Company who supposedly has a good name?????
This is very odd. I have the same identical one and was able to remove all the screws and while down each blade with the dust and sanitize multiple times so I’m not quite sure why you’re unable to Hmmmm odd
This video it's such bull... Vacuum and Air spray doesn't clean well. And it always leaves the inside fins dirty. You can't open easily unless you take out like a dozens screws exposing the electrical internals. Really bad design.
This video is a joke. Unless a person has access to an air compressor or at the very least a leaf blower it’s impossible to clean a fan using a can of compressed air. I cleaned our fans yesterday with a high output air compressor and it took about 10 minutes to blow one out. We clean ours twice a year.
Just throw it away and buy a portable radiator, easy clean, air is warmer than the Lasko and costs less to operate. Simple solution to a dirty problem.
Wow. Where was this 3yrs ago when I bought the fan?? Ridiculous. You guys live in the 90s. Anyone considering a new fan don't buy this one. Make sure you can take the filter out. If you do buy this fan consider also purchasing a vacuum. Never mind whether or not you have a carpeted home. The vacuum is for the fan.
I’ve had a Lasko tower fan for like 10 years. Only ever cleaned the outside cause you can’t get to the internal filter. Garbage design. Dreo is much much better with simple removal of the filter and just rinse with water.
Welp I just voided the $% out of the warranty. Have the star bits for the screws. Got it _all_ clean. Only took the removal of 104 screws & ½ a day but I assaulted it real good. Even grew a beard during the process. Thanks for nothing Lasko.
It's criminal that you add a chirper and then not give us a way to turn it off. Middle of the night temp adjustments are like a shot in the dark. Reasonable friendly product engineers would actually shell out the .50 cents to add a physical on/off chirper switch. But NOOOOOOOOO. We have to tear the thing apart, unsolder the chirper and waste a half hour+ of our time.

Last time I buy a product of yours now that I know you purposely made it so we couldn’t fix or get into the heater ourselves. It’s a freakin heater not a rocket ship
I'm really disappointed I bought this fan because it traps so much dust inside even when using this suggested cleaning method.
Once you get to the motor:
- There will be 4 screws and bolts, unscrew it, and open up the motor.
(or you risk short circuiting)
- Reassemble, but don't close the housing yet until you've tested it. Should run smoothly again!
Wish manufacturers made servicing easier like having a dust filter / panel that slides out, , or using thumb screws to easily slide out the motor from the bottom, but they all want you to toss a perfectly fixable product into the landfill and buy a new one for no damn reason.
Mine has stopped blowing air yesterday so I will try this. Also I will order another tonight as I do love the product and they are worth it to me.
I won't be buying this product again, stopped working after a few months
Lasko fans suck - the two I’ve owned no longer oscillate and attract so much dust. Never again.
unfortunately this video is fine to clean the outside . there has to be a better way to clean the blades inside the fans . the blades collect dust and needs to be vacuumed . that can air spray don't work. its crazy you can't open it to clean it .
Ikr
Yeah you can. There is a way. They have torx screws which require a T10 screwdriver or flathead. This guy is full of shit
Probably can just put one on it from the back with some Velcro.
it doesnt even help as i tried this, the fan still gets filled with dust
Yes this company purposely made the screws not accessible to normal screw drivers. Never buy from them again.
I dissembled this myself and did a through cleaning and then put it back together and works better. Don’t listen to this guy. This guy wants us consumers to waste our money since they mostly care about profits. Right to repair all the way!
Sweet well done this helped me a lot 😜
Why did they not make the front piece removal? SMH
This method doesn't really clean, this just removes the most superficial part of the dust. Lasko should make the back grill removable but they want these to be disposable to make us buy it again. That's a very poor marketing strategy. Instead people get frustrated and don't buy from them. Change your mind.
Pretty supid marketing tactic, who would rebuy a inconvenient product twice.
Worked like magic!
This Lasko fan is newer than the one I grew up with, which allowed cleaning to be done with a filter replacement. I know y'all bank on money plentiful but it's time to upgrade the tower.
Voiding the warranty warnings such as yours are illegal, not enforceable according to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975.
I just hang mine upside down in the garage and blast the ever loving crap out of it with a leaf blower.
Lmaoooooo thats something I would do honestly
Great! Lucky you.
LMAO!
Can we just blast it clean with water?
I just used a high pressure hose with hot water while the heater was running. Burned the dust right off. Heater generated lots of heat…. Once.
Leaf blower works great
Does this Lasko product come with a vacuum? Or do you guys sell it as a bundle.
You don't need one. Use a leaf blower or air compressor to blow dust OUT.
In summary: planned obsolescence
You have to be able to clean this thing without being aggravated....
Wish I had seen this before I bought one. Shifty product by a shifty money hungry company. You'd think it'd be a health concern to them that you can't clean the filter.
I agree that I am " not 🚫 allowed" to clean my fan
The “screws” on the bottom of my heater have triangular holes. I guess they want to make sure we can’t open them. I can’t use the heater the way it is so I have nothing to lose by trying!
the vents are ez to clean, what about the BLADES inside the fan " Lasko "? u trying 2b like "apple"...
An expensive lesson after purchasing five tower fans placed throughout our home.
this wasn't even my model I ask information on , I waited 3hrs to chat with someone who sent me a link that wasn't even what i needed .
Will I ruin the tower if I take a hose and wash the gunk out of it?
I agree wit everyone else .these fans succ ..hard to clean and fill up wit dust.. I used a broom and brushed the front and bacc ..and there blowing alot better.but when u pay almost 80 buccs for it .should be better way of cleaning it. I will never buy these fans again bought 6 from amazon ..for the summer .and there not even a year old .and only issue during summertime in ca. But design succs
I just took mine apart, only the side vents, use some needle nose pliers to take screws out that are notched, they will be a pain but easy out...
I came here to be like “whaaaatttt?” I need compressed air?!?! Why can’t I unscrew and wipe down and then screw back together. Dammit poor design
In other words “we’re not going to explain what tool you use to take the special screws out because we want you to simply buy a new one, as a vacuum cleaner can’t really get close enough to suck the dust off the inner components.”
Not user serviceable. How Lame!
You could have saved your time, anyone can clean a new fan, a vacuum will not remove dirt that's stuck to the blades.
Never buying this POS again. Will definitely be telling everyone i know not to purchase either
I get why the heater should not be opened but the tower fan? That just makes hard to clean it
I’ll never buy a lasko fan again until you make them easy to open and clean. What a joke.
Everyone does not have a “vacuum with a brush attachment” …
The design is awful. Save yourself the frustration and just throw the fan away. The inner blades, where the most debris gets caught, are not reachable by vacuum; and blowing with compressed air will just blow that debris everywhere. If you don't want your money down the drain, you could drill through the TRIANGLE screws in the back and tear them out. I would just buy a Honeywell. The Honeywell latches in the back and comes right off, clearing the way for A FILTER, which is easily vacuumed, and the inner air moving blades, then also easily vacuumed.
Nice try Lasko on hiding the Like to Dislike ratio. Anti-consumer.
Thanks for calling this out. We had missed checking that box on this video. It's fixed now, so you can see the ratings. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused.
@@LaskoProductsInc Y'all products SUCKS 🙄
I’m pissed to find out that this company thinks we’re too stupid to open and clean an appliance that we purchased.
This is a joke right. Im taking it apart. Blowing air will NOT work. Very bad design!
Lasko claims they care about the planet, yet they also make disposable products that need more extensive cleaning than this tutorial provides information on. At least the lasko box fans are serviceable.
"for your safety" more like so you need to buy a new fan if something goes wrong, but nice cover.
Useless. Bought this piece of shit and can’t clean it
This man is CLOGGED, just like my FAN! What kind of nincompoop shit was this?!😳
Waaaay too much work. You should make a product that has removable vents, so consumers can wash the vent.
I do think it's ridiculous that you can't take a fan apart and clean it
I may need a leaf blower to blow the fuck out the dust in that thing. One leaf blower on the back and a vacuum on the front.
Anyone else having issue with loud squeaking noise when oscillating?
I just found a Lasko unit mode 6410
The fan..OCD worst enemy.
Lasko❌️ Assko✅️
Awful product. Will never buy from this company again.
I should've bought another Rowenta. I'll never again buy Lasko.
Take it apart, clean the parts thoroughly, put it back together. Ignore this nerd-
