This was super fun to watch!!
A couple tips!!
1) Even tho the larger suspension felt too long, if you put it on a low strength setting, it could help you to maintain better ground contact in those rough spots. Your wheels will be able to drop really far into crevices.
2) Your roll bars are making you top heavy. Notice how the example truck is all wood on top. If you keep your base concrete, but make all of your aesthetic design choices out of a light material, you’ll resist flipping backwards on inclines.
Great video as always!! Can’t wait to see the 3rd rock crawler challenge!!
Had the same thoughts, you saved me the effort of writing them out lol.
Also, when fully compressed, the long suspension isn't any taller than the short one.
Also, solid axles
@@kornaros96 Think that would really help in this game?
Ya, it would keep one wheel from falling in the hole. but that would also mean that wheel would lust be making no contact with anything.
Thanks for playing again! Only one suggestion I have for potentially improving your vehicle is using extruded metal instead of tier 1 metal, this may help prevent you from toppling over with your center of mass lower to the ground. Good vehicle overall!
Once again thanks for playing!
Dang, I feel like the creator shouldve gotten more likes 😅
Definitely agree with the suggestion tho
17.41 'ooooh that was a very fun section of course' had me crying
The mini rock crawling moster trucker thingy :D turned out great! But you know what could turn out greater? This MM idea!
Day 125 of asking for a Multiplayer Monday in survival mode where everyone starts at the crashed ship with a craftbot in the mechanic station. Everyone has 30 minutes to build a vehicle from scratch, gathering their own materials. No glitches, thrusters allowed, after which everyone meets up and races their builds
Little típ, I'm into rc rock crawlers and what we do most of the time with 4ws is put it in a separate channel so you can control them separately, the same would apply to scrap mechanic put the rear steering in 2 buttons so you can control it separately and you can crab walk turning the same way both in the front and the back, or even sometimes only turn with the rear and leave the front straight, helps a lot for positioning yourself and in tight turns. Also try to disable the return to center on steering and lower the speed on the steering in the bearing menu so you are more precise and you don't have to be tapping when doing a big radius turn, you can do the same on rear button steering with controllers set on a loop on 1 degree increments
Scrap man’s a great RUclipsr Ngl wish he had more of an audience
I Agree this man should be at 1mil subs already. His vids are so good
Underrated!
I recomend using solid axles. They are harder to make, there are some interesting issues to design around, but once you get them to work your rock crawler will blow your mind. I got mine to have 90 degrees of flex between front and rear axles and that makes many impossible things feasible.
tip for rock crawlers:
have the wheels sit even lower than the chassis creating a big gap between them. That way there is less chance a big rock will make your vehicle get stuck. It might seem counter intuitive to have the center of mass higher, but it works. Play with your materials and see what works best
What you need is independent rear steering. A controller, button and bearings for left turn, a second set for right turn.
You can use logic to automate the steering for four wheel steering, but primarily you just use the two buttons to steer the rear wheels manually when you need to.
It will let you turn the front wheels, the rear wheels or all wheels and will let you crab walk sideways if you need to.
have you thought of trying a walker on one of these rock challenges? might be interesting to see what's possible with 4 or 6 legs and different kinds of articulation.
Now I wanna see you repeating all of these rock crawling challenges you've made so far in first person.
Maybe make this a multiplayer monday with four players in two teams where one drives the car and another works as a spotter. You've never made even remotely similar before, so it would be awesome to have!
The Electric motors should give you the option to change torque as well as speed independently.
Love the challenge vids!
this was super fun to watch
Can’t wait for multiplayer Monday
9:06 thats why all real life rock crawlers use welded or locking differentials
my daughter just said that you should've built a car that can jump over the rocks, maybe keep that in mind for the next course
one idea I had that came to mind is some kind of shiftable weight, to add a heavy block low in your vehicle to keep the center of mass down, but make it shiftable, so in those situations that your hanging off to one side, you can shift the weight to compensate making it much much much harder to fully tip over. actually implementing it would be hard but if done right it could be a lifesaver on really tough spots
All it would take is a weight on a steering bearing. You would limit yourself to only shift in the direction that you steer in, but that's what you want in _most_ situations. (Similar to how the back wheels working in tandem with the front steering is _usually_ what you want.) The biggest engineering challenge with a counterweight is to get the weight part of it low enough that you don't end up lifting your center of mass too much. Maybe you could use the whole center portion between the wheels as the shifting weight.
Small thing I noticed that might improve your quality of life in future games: using your mouse to adjust steering degrees can be difficult and finicky- you can also use the scroll wheel!
scrapman's rock crawler is giving me citroen ami vibes
Wheel base could've been a couple blocks longer, would've made crossing some of the gaps a bit smoother.
Exceptional rock crawling by yours truly....
so close to 800K keep it up scrapman
You should do a sardines hide and seek challenge where there is 2 seekers one hider and the seeker joins the hider when they are found
you are projected to hit 800k in only 8 days!! congrats!!
that was a fun section of course he says right after his character gets severe whiplash.
yooooo 1 minute ago thats crazy! Im going to take advantage of this and just say that you have been one of my favorite and by far one of the most creative youtubers I have ever seen, you have inspired me to keep playing scrap mechanic and I thank you for that.
I think RCSparks Studio would love to watch this. He does some crazy R/C rock crawling.
More dad jokes from Scrapman: "The was a fun section of COURSE." I see what you did there. Of course it was fun. 😄
Idk why I’m up at 4am but at least I have a great vid by scrapman to watch
This is so cool
Hey scrap man hope you're doing well and wish you the best
Second time asking: Please have yourself and your friends build epic rock crawling courses and put it together into one big course for multiplayer Monday. Then you can build rock crawlers and see who gets the best time.
Please like so he can see it!
An shifting weight distribution maybe can help!
If there a hover race that you have to climb mountains and more I'm interested on that
When I see a challenge like this I start to overdesign things. Things like adjustable wheel heights and center of mass shifting.
Easy 4:53
Hard 4:27
Nice 👍
Metal man is baack.
After the accumulator episode, the idea of you playing nimbatus has been floating around my head, would suggest, please play.
Whoo, scrapman!
Boulder Bottom, of course.
1 tip use bigger suspension but don’t make them suppressed that much
i saw that weird rocks there in the terrain and i just had to think about the suspension wheels you had in a different video
would like to see how those perform on that map
the "squishy" one, with sensors that pulled in?
@@Extramrdo i meant the Suspension one from an oder Video
He made them in Scrap mechanic and Trailmakers after He found one in Instruments of destruction
The sticky wheels? That wasn’t suspension, those were just wheels
god this time around your car looks SO much better
Talk about don’t judge a book by it’s cover. The Little Rock crawler that could.
you r vids great
I almost forgot about this challenge
you should play snowrunner scrapman. i think you would like the offroading in it.
You should make it so that you can extend the wheels out with pistons so the car is level.
these challenge vids are so good, i love them, and the hide and seek is so good 2 but i miss the multiplayer monday for trailmakers challenges and the workshop hunters for scrapmechanic because the ideas were so weird and funny, and videos like the destructible maze are really fun
6 or 8 wheeler would be nice to see
Day 1 of asking scrapman to bring back workshop hunters (ime with you bro)
I think a third set of wheels placed in the middle and offset a bit higher than the other two may have been helpful.
11:57 Are you sure you wanna say stuff like that, ScrapMan? You've just issued a challenge to the people who create these courses.
you should try out fants survival mod, it's really fun and makes survival feel so much more new!
Day 36 of asking to do workshop hunters in trailmakers, scrap mechanic, and instruments of destruction!
The large suspension with a soft setting would have Simulated suspension flex keeping you from tilting so much
good
You should try make a car with realistic crashing physics with bearings so when it collides with something at a high speed it bends/breaks
Lagmania
Yes
Look up chain link 4x4
It’s an INSANE rock crawler!
Scrapman I was wondering what you will do for your base when the scrap mechanic update is here?
I don't want to be that person that goes, "Your vehicles terrible because blah blah blah."
But, have you considered using axle suspension?
BTW great content!
wider wheels would've helped a lot
Art of rendering 09 1:33
Day 3 of asking to bring back scrap mechanic workshop hunter
Well you’re not the only one who wants it back😢
Yes please Mr. Scrap Man
bruh i commented the same thing without seeing this
Facts
Yup, I love that series so much!
hey scrapman could you start back up the survival series again?
Is it possible to make a solid axle style of suspension? It is better off-road vs independent.
I think building a tank would be good for this, just because you could go over a lot and still turn on a dime
I use a free axle Always on Front axle but limiting It to Flex Only yo 45 degrees or less
did you know that the oily toilet part has 1 friction which is the lowest friction in the game? I only found out today but my creations slide so much longer with them.
i wonder if having 6wd would have helped
good news, the first one was not "A long time ago", it was in fact only about 2 and a half months!!
scrapman i really like your vids and has been subed since 2017, i live in Australia Toowoomba my entire life. I'm 10 years of age and would love you to come to Aus if you can. so can you meet me at grand central. plz
boulder crawler
the long suspension should be connected higher rather than using sport suspension
Scrap I think you need to have no suspension at the course it's pretty easy without suspension
I once again ask you to build Mil Mi-32 tri propeller helicopter
hey can u play volcanoids again??? i kinda miss it
Under the 100!
Bring back scrap mechanic workshop gunters
You were better off with building a offroad tank with suspension glich steering
I wonder how tank(-hybrid)s do in rock crawling
The fact you said "crux of the problem". scrap man do you happen to rock climb? *Nudge* *nudge*
;)
Please look for the perfect intro in scrap mechanic
six minutes yesss
Nice
he did the hard mode quicker than easy mode
Snowrunner be like:
U should check out besiege
Batman Pokemon game had a new it had dwelled toilet correct.
Do another battlebots video
Day 36 of asking for more loot box challenges, Day 276 of asking for more workshop hunters, and day 277 of asking for more brick rigs
For all of you that wants any of these you can help too
you now why the testing car turnd so sharp because the bering was on top of the suspension
Yo scrapman on trailmakers can u make a video showcaseing right but can u help me fix y upload its called plane launcher its black and red
wedge or brick?
Hi
hi
what if.... *unicycle*
You need a wider truck
Day 38 of asking Scrapman to search for Drift trike in the Trailmakers workshop
