This might be a dumb question but what does prototype mean in the doll world? I’m a newby. And Addie is perfect!
Not a dumb question at all. So prior to releasing a new doll there are prototypes made so that collectors can get an idea of what the painted versions might look like. The best artists are chosen to do the prototypes and they are then sold before the kits are released for sale to help promote the kit release. The prototypes are special and usually come with some special goodies that the typical kits don't come with, like the belly plate and they are also the very first kits made and viewed as highly sough after. The prototypes also seem to retain their value much better than a non-prototype doll. I hope that makes sense.
