I’ve already explained a lot of my thoughts behind this story at the end (thanks again to Ronnie for allowing me that spotlight) and ultimately SPOILERS AHEAD it comes down to personal choice and a right to decide your own life. My dad was sadly killed last year and had suffered with Dementia for a long time, this story was conceptualised before his accident but during his decline as a sister story to “There’s Only Embers At The End” as a way to put focus on my love of gaming and marry it with the idea of what it’d be like to see the world through a dementia sufferers eyes. There’s a lot of symbolism in this piece i’m intentionally keeping abstract to allow for personal interpretation as to “what happened” prior to Demi’s imprisonment, but the bigger pieces are easy enough to put together. I love this story and it was so dear to my heart, after several false starts and different potential homes for it, i’m glad it landed in the one place I feel most comfortable: here with all of you. It took me way too long to realize that the narrator was saying "Y" and not constantly asking "Why??" Also fantastic job as always and the message from the author was raw, I think it will touch a lot of people.
Wouldn't be strange if it was intentional. TJ is very good with symbolism and meta tricks like those in his stories. It's the "Y" button, but in the way the story is written and how we're supposed to hear the voice acting, it comes off as the protagonist asking "why?", which ties into the narrative perfectly.
This is very bittersweet and well told with all of the narrators I love. My aunt lost her battle with dementia only 4 days ago. That beautiful, boundlessly happy woman slowly lost all those wonderful parts of herself. We have barely begun to miss her presence, but we've been mourning what made her her for years now. So, with that off my chest, this was a perfect tribute, and it is so appreciated.
Condolences to you and your family. We lost my grandad to a type of Dementia and I would not wish having to watch someone they loved decline like that on my worst enemy.

This was an amazing & heartbreaking story. The author did such a good job of veiling the theme inside of this game. I had an idea something was going on pretty early and about 1/2 way through I was almost sure. Id guessed Alzheimer's, but I was close. My dad had a horrific stroke at 49 rendering him a shell of his former self, but thankfully he passed about 6 months later and no longer suffered, but I remember our conversation before his stroke when he found out he had brain issues...he made me promise(by signing a living will) that if he were ever on life support and the doctors said he would never have his life back, that Id tell them to stop...and I did. I thought Id be too upset or terrified when the moment came, but I wasnt. Everyone around me was unsure, they wanted to wait...but the doctors were sure, and in that moment I was more resolute than Id ever been about anything and when they stopped the machines...in that moment...I felt relief that I was able to fulfill my dad's last wish, and I knew that he was whole again. Ive missed him everyday these last 15 years, but I NEVER ONCE questioned myself, or regretted my decision. I completely understand this story and I actually liked the ending. ❤
I’m sorry you lost him so young but I know he’s grateful and happy he had you to do the right and difficult thing when he wasn’t going to get any better.
Dark had mentioned they have a busy week this week so the uploads are slow, but this was a really compelling story. Seems like Dark dipped away from the ambiance sound-scape we are used to in favor of voice tone shifting and practical effects. Or perhaps that's just the vision Dark had for this particular story. One thing is for certain, Dark is views their work as art and not content. Content is made for mass consumption, art is something unexpected that is gifted to the world. Thank you Dark.
I just wanted to take the time to write a thank you message. Over the past few years, I have faced a lot of struggles, and life seemed like a never-ending stream of misery and pain. One of the only things that has truly helped me through them has been you and your videos. They have genuinely been a saviour for me. A sanctuary. Being able to disconnect from life for an hour and be dropped into a new world, with your absolutely amazing vocal and audio work, is the escape I needed. I’ve been listening to you for a few years and the way you are able to immerse the listener in the stories you read is awesome to experience and adds another layer to every story you narrate. I also enjoy your music a lot too - i sometimes find myself cruising through your Spotify uploads just letting my mind run free. Imagining scenarios where each track fits perfectly. You have a real talent, not just in your audio mixing and narration, but with music creation too. No matter how many times I listen to it, your Dark Dreams outro music always gives me chills! I am now on a new path for the future with a newfound love of nature, reading and music. And i have to admit this is mostly down to you and your work. I've also started writing my own nosleep and creepypasta stories too - and this is definitely because of you! Maybe one day i'll see one of my stories on here. From listening to you to help me push through the darkest time of my life, to becoming a new person with new passions and falling in love with horror and writing, to hearing the story which would have never existed being read out on the channel which started it all. I just want to say, truly from the bottom of my heart - thank you. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for you and your work. Holy comment Batman! It may actually be longer than todays story! Just playing. I get ya. The stories read by DS and the other Pasta Paisans have helped me get through some of my dark times of anguish and withdrawal. One of the few things that probably helped me stay the course and get cleaned up.

Having a 1h break where you're just immersed in his narrations and not thinking about the absolute misery you might be going through brings joy into a mentally exhausting day. I was sixteen when my dad died of ALS. I wish he had the choice to die or live on as he did. I remember when he tried voicing that the hardest part of the process was that we had to suffer seeing him like that. There were times that I wished I could’ve let him die sooner if he so desired to. Thank you all for making and voicing this story.

This is one of a few of your stories (you have read/voiced over or created) that have brought me to tears. Things written so well, and with such care- they really show how much effort was put into them. Stories where authors are emotionally invested are incredibly moving for me as I am an incredibly emotional person. This topic was delicate, evidently, and while I haven’t experienced something like that up to now, I am struggling with ill family members who seem to just be declining, and it’s awful to see them go through this. Thank you Dusk for sharing something held so close to your heart in a way that was written incredibly well. And thank you Somnium, for brining it to life in a way that really clicked. My dad passed away this year and listening to you talk about your dad was great. My dad and I played pilot wings so much. One of our last days together I brought out my n64 and we played for a bit before his pain meds made him too tired to continue and I'll always cherish.
This story legit had me on the verge of tears. While listening I understood parts, and didn't understand other parts. But the authors words at the end brought it all to light and I understood why it hit so hard. This is something that I have also witnessed a loved one go through, and I am worried will have to witness again. Thank you for letting me hear your story.

I just finished and heard the final message from the author. I am in tears. I have always supported the right that one should pass on their own terms, (euthanasia, assisted euthanasia or death, etc). I am going to graduate school soon to be an occupational therapist, and the fact that there are people that still cannot agree on this is heartbreaking. No one can understand the pain unless it's the person that's losing themselves (whether it be mentally or physically), and of course, the family and caretakers. This is the first time I've heard a horror writer/story discuss it, and as twisted as it is, its a great story to show to those who disagree. Thank you all for your hard work.
I just want to say, having listened to the author's notes at the end, there is no over dramatization of dementia. My mom recently passed from Parkinson's and she had sever Parkinson's related dementia and it was absolutely horrifying. Nobody can truly understand the horror of it unless they've seen their loved one go through it. Some of the worst moments where when she truly understood she was terminal and there was no hope and her life was completely gone. The absolute devastation of that realization in those fleeting moments is more horrifying than anything I could possibly imagine and again I don't think anyone can truly understand how devastating such a condition is unless they've seen someone they love go through it which is why your story really hit a cord in me listening to it. I loved your story and I feel like I need to listen to it a second time especially after hearing your epilogue. Thank you sir for your artistry. It is quite special.

I appreciate this story so much! I lost my dad to cancer in 2017 and it got to a point to where he did not remember me. It was devastating! My grandma is currently in the later stages of dementia and I've been having a hard time accepting it. She doesn't even remember she's married anymore and watching my grandpa and dad try to help her when she doesn't know what's happening just hurts so bad. It’s honestly not exaggerated when saying that this channel is my go-to on youtube. Not many days pass without me listening to the stories of this channel. I’ve been browsing through other ‘reddit stories’ narrated by the simple ai voice for some time now, but this channel is truly. wow. The narrative isn’t just plain, the stories don’t repeat and, there is actual plot besides rambling about otherworldly entities. As a person who struggles with anxiety, ocd and is autistic, my mind gets quiet fuzzy at times, but honestly, this channel is doing wonders. whatever I’m doing, I find myself listening to something. keeping me focused. no podcast ever before has caught me like that. seriously, thank you for the stories you read. it’s not much by a single person across the globe, still, this little community means a lot to me. thank you, so much.

I watched this twice, the first time i thought this was a pretty good story, the second time i watched it I started crying pretty hard with all the context i had this story just hit different the second time around, A true masterpiece
both the writing and the narration for this one were incredible. and the outro from Dusklight made me cry, as a person who also lost their beloved father to terminal illness. I miss him more than ever given my current life circumstances, not helped by the fact that both the Father's Day my country celebrates and the 5th anniversary of his death are coming up soon. to Dusklight: you are very brave for coming to terms with your pain and transforming it into a beautiful story and powerful message to us all. and to Somnium and all the other narrators: thank you for helping bring his story to life so vividly.
The voices were georgeus, the story was absolutely amazing. The times a story has made my shed a tear have been rare, but it just shows how well written and heartfelt the ending of the story was. I loved every second of it and hearing the explosion filled some gaps for me. I cannot express how much I adore this one.

Knowing the context now makes this truly a devastating story. I am so sorry, dementia is horrible and to be honest having gone thru serious memory issues myself makes the disease so much more terrifying. You can hear the pain in Dusk’s voice at the end and I just want to acknowledge how strong you are. This story is a beautiful tribute, I’m sure he would’ve loved it. I definitely understand what you mean with hoping to not overdramatise anything and I can reassure you you didn’t, this is one of the most tasteful and heartfelt pieces of media covering the topic I’ve ever seen. This was so powerful dude. A late family member of mine had dementia, and it's so horrifying. We had our funny moments where we were complete strangers and we just became friends and got so close in a matter of minutes and then they would laugh their ass off when the realized who I am. And then we had our moments where we would sit in silence as they tried to remember so much as their own name. It's such a sad thing to see, but I'm beyond happy to have the good and the bad memories, and I'm so proud of that you've done with the story, I'm sure your dad would be proud too. I usually listen to these over several nights as I fall into sleep. This was the rare story that I started playing where it left off as soon as I woke up. It had an aura of unknown and the confused. As when trying to separate the tangible from the ephemeral. When suddenly pulled from a deep sleep. I think its a sign of a good writer and narration when reader starts to connect meaning and clues to their own memory and experiences. Instead of just supplementing what they would do in this situation. This story gripped my curiosity and my emotions. I am sorry for what you lost and your pain. This story will stay with me.
I spent this story trying to figure out why it felt so eerily familiar to me but it wasn’t until the authors after note that I realized why. I’ve spent several years working in healthcare, specifically with dementia patients and it’s one hell of a ride for the victim and the caregivers. The contrast between the fog and those brief moments of pure clarity is heartbreaking, along with the slow loss of everything that made that person “ them” long before the body gives out. I’ve often explained it as “ dying before you die” to family members. Your writing captured what you wanted to perfectly, the narration was spectacular and I am so glad you have this outlet to handle some of your grief and loss.
Some of my favorites in one place...amazing. i also wanted to thank you, as well al everyone invovled. I was involved in a pretty terrible accicent on July 22nd. I had legitimately perished, and was then in a coma. When i finally made it homr, the first thing i did was listen to my subscriptions. You all have helped out so dang much, just wanted to make sure you all knew. I was feeling alone, forgotten, and lost....but your friendly voices touched me, and made me feel something that I havent in a while. So....thank you all. Im slowly working my way back in to the world, but its been hard, but you guys have also been here....and it helped.

Ive just finally finished the story and listened to the last 10-12 minutes of the video. My goodness! The tears are a-flowin here on this dreary afternoon. Spoiler alert: I knew what it alluded to before the author verified my guess. II took care of my grandpa for 7 years as I watched him deteriorate with dementia, heart failure, and type 2 diabetes. In the end, he slipped away and transitioned while under Hospice care, and I had essentially been acting as his personal nurse, advocate, loving granddaughter for the entirety of it. I wish my grandpa had the option as well. The way it was drawn out and the indignities he suffered, slowly turning from a proud black man who came from nothing and worked his way to success, raising a happy family during a time when the more melanated human beings were seen as less than worthy...to basicity a blubbering, fearful child-like shell of his former self.... in constant pain and terror. I totally agree, there should be a choice. He would've definitely ended it with our memories untainted by what that horrible disease did to him. 😔 thank you Mr. Lea. I empathize.
I absolutely love the story. I’m glad I stuck around for the commentary when he explained everything I got a little emotional. My heart went out to that guy and it was like I could hear his pain through his talking about his father but I’m glad he got his creativity back through perseverance.

T.J Your story hit home hard. I've lost my mother to cancer 9 years ago and she was the one that brought the joy of videogames to me as well. Sonic, Zelda, entire era of N64 and PSX. That love still persists to this day and I look fondly back to older memories with my mother. But also as you said, you never get that back and you miss these moments dearly. I don't know your father, but I'm certain that he'd be proud of you, both of who you are as a person and how far you've come. Your stories are genuinely one of my favorites, and many others surely agree with me on that. I hope you take care of yourself.
The writing didn't make sense, why did they call demi a guy, but then use they and he. It seems like the writer didn't decide on a gender until later, and then forgot to change half of the they's to he's
@@babypickleyellow It's not a grammatical choice, it's a grating misuse of language that makes it very draining to listen to, so i simply stopped. "They" does not function in any capacity as a pronoun for a singular entity, and trying to use it in lieu of many viable pronouns intended for singular entities (including nomenclature) is just aggravating to listen to. Sorry that you somehow feel upset by someone being annoyed at blatant grammatical errors that not only distract, but significantly detract from the story. You are, of course, allowed to choose to be wrong, but you can not claim that something objectively incorrect is merely a stylistic choice.
@@Kanakotka they absolutely does function as a singular pronoun. But you'd rather be a prescriptivist grammarian and have a fit because a word choice is so annoying to you it ruins an entire 2 hour story.
@@babypickleyellow I'd rather use the language correctly. Also, it simply doesn't and despite being utterly incorrect it's hilarious you try and argue. It doesn't need anything complex to figure it out either. Try conjugating "is" or "has" for instance with "they" and you only get plural forms, because "they" is a plural form, and thus cannot be used in lieu of a singular pronoun. Well, unless you want to sound like you drool on your shirt regularly and use "they is" "they was" and "they has", or something.
I loved this story. The voice acting along with the sound effects really made this a unquie experience. My grandmother. who passed away on July 22. was fighting with dementia. It was hard. Because this person who I admire, this person who I loved slowly forgot me, she forgot english and went back to only speaking Spanish, I don't know Spanish well enough to talk to her so my way of talking to her was expressing my love. It was heartbreaking. I spoke the day of her funeral and I thought I was going to be able to keep my compsure, but I started sobbing. Sobbing like I've never had. Listening to the author telling his own story brought me some comfort and I began to cry again
I would just like to say, this had me crying at work. Both of my grandmas have Alzheimer’s and the ending where he talks about his dad had me thinking about the progression of the disease taking over their lives. My one grandma no longer can speak or eat on her own and my other has just started to forget things such as where she is and who people are. This story is an amazing representation of what I imagine my grandma’s brain is comprehending.I would love to think that my grandma is in a different world full of happy memories as she stares at the wall or out the window. Thank you for this story and thank you for bringing light to the effect of those cognitive diseases that have made us lose people we love before they even depart from our lives.
This channel is one of the best I've ever found. Thank you for reminding me of writing, the art form I love. I've heard it said recently that perfect is the antithwsis of good or even, complete and I let myself get so hung up on the idea that I shouldn't share anything I wrote with anyone because it wouldn't be good enough that I could never really finish anything. The quality and the emotional depth of what you choose to share here hit close to home and I owe it to myself if no one else to just, make what I'm going to. That might have been a bit self serving to comment but thanks for being committed to a quality that leaves an impression.

I just finished this story. The previous times I kept zoning out because I didn't really know what was going on, what the story was getting at. But unfortunately, I lost my grandmother to dementia a few weeks ago and now I don't care what anyone says, I know EXACTLY what this man is talking about. I feel you sir TJ Lee and my heart and condolences go out to you and your family. I guess my grandmother really did help me one last time, cause now I get to enjoy this story and really feel someone else going through the same thing as me. Thank you so much to all the narrators, you all played an important and great part in telling the story the way I believe the author needed it to be and of course, once again, thank you to the author TJ Lee for bringing what I'm sure alot of people are thinking into a story that can allow us to come to terms with our emotions and thoughts. Thanks for this one Somnium, Dusklight, and everyone else on the project. I agree with Dusklight when he says you have a way of bringing a story to life in a different way. Shocked the revelation didn't hit me till it was thrown in my face. As someone who dealt with a similar situation, this story and the motivation behind it are greatly appreciated.
I am a long time time fan/listener and I wanted to say thank you. I am currently in the process of my grandpa (one of my best friends) slowly passing away from dementia and this story helped me feel like I am not alone. To all of the creators on this, thank you and never stop doing work such as this. It means more than you know.
Stories like that don’t break my heart but shine the light on the fact that my heart is already broken. It’s honestly such a relief to get this emotions out. While I’m remember I’m devastated, I’m grateful I get to process bit by bit during such moments.
I can't say that the stories in horror ever scare me but I love that I got a physical reaction from this one. The after "preamble" was harder than the story. My father is going through some things and I don't know how long I have him. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you know you have brought me to tears. I’ve already explained a lot of my thoughts behind this story at the end (thanks again to Ronnie for allowing me that spotlight) and ultimately SPOILERS AHEAD it comes down to personal choice and a right to decide your own life. My dad was sadly killed last year and had suffered with Dementia for a long time, this story was conceptualised before his accident but during his decline as a sister story to “There’s Only Embers At The End” as a way to put focus on my love of gaming and marry it with the idea of what it’d be like to see the world through a dementia sufferers eyes.
There’s a lot of symbolism in this piece i’m intentionally keeping abstract to allow for personal interpretation as to “what happened” prior to Demi’s imprisonment, but the bigger pieces are easy enough to put together.
I love this story and it was so dear to my heart, after several false starts and different potential homes for it, i’m glad it landed in the one place I feel most comfortable: here with all of you.

Wouldn't be strange if it was intentional. TJ is very good with symbolism and meta tricks like those in his stories. It's the "Y" button, but in the way the story is written and how we're supposed to hear the voice acting, it comes off as the protagonist asking "why?", which ties into the narrative perfectly.

This is very bittersweet and well told with all of the narrators I love. My aunt lost her battle with dementia only 4 days ago. That beautiful, boundlessly happy woman slowly lost all those wonderful parts of herself. We have barely begun to miss her presence, but we've been mourning what made her her for years now. So, with that off my chest, this was a perfect tribute, and it is so appreciated.
I'm feelin' it in this story, and wonder what it may have unraveled to me had I not read this in passing lol

This was an amazing & heartbreaking story. The author did such a good job of veiling the theme inside of this game. I had an idea something was going on pretty early and about 1/2 way through I was almost sure. Id guessed Alzheimer's, but I was close.
My dad had a horrific stroke at 49 rendering him a shell of his former self, but thankfully he passed about 6 months later and no longer suffered, but I remember our conversation before his stroke when he found out he had brain issues...he made me promise(by signing a living will) that if he were ever on life support and the doctors said he would never have his life back, that Id tell them to stop...and I did.
I thought Id be too upset or terrified when the moment came, but I wasnt. Everyone around me was unsure, they wanted to wait...but the doctors were sure, and in that moment I was more resolute than Id ever been about anything and when they stopped the machines...in that moment...I felt relief that I was able to fulfill my dad's last wish, and I knew that he was whole again. Ive missed him everyday these last 15 years, but I NEVER ONCE questioned myself, or regretted my decision.
I completely understand this story and I actually liked the ending. ❤

Dark had mentioned they have a busy week this week so the uploads are slow, but this was a really compelling story. Seems like Dark dipped away from the ambiance sound-scape we are used to in favor of voice tone shifting and practical effects. Or perhaps that's just the vision Dark had for this particular story. I just wanted to take the time to write a thank you message.
Over the past few years, I have faced a lot of struggles, and life seemed like a never-ending stream of misery and pain. One of the only things that has truly helped me through them has been you and your videos. They have genuinely been a saviour for me. A sanctuary. Being able to disconnect from life for an hour and be dropped into a new world, with your absolutely amazing vocal and audio work, is the escape I needed.
I’ve been listening to you for a few years and the way you are able to immerse the listener in the stories you read is awesome to experience and adds another layer to every story you narrate.
I also enjoy your music a lot too - i sometimes find myself cruising through your Spotify uploads just letting my mind run free. Imagining scenarios where each track fits perfectly. You have a real talent, not just in your audio mixing and narration, but with music creation too. No matter how many times I listen to it, your Dark Dreams outro music always gives me chills!
I am now on a new path for the future with a newfound love of nature, reading and music. And i have to admit this is mostly down to you and your work. I've also started writing my own nosleep and creepypasta stories too - and this is definitely because of you! Maybe one day i'll see one of my stories on here. From listening to you to help me push through the darkest time of my life, to becoming a new person with new passions and falling in love with horror and writing, to hearing the story which would have never existed being read out on the channel which started it all.
I just want to say, truly from the bottom of my heart - thank you. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for you and your work. Just playing. I get ya. The stories read by DS and the other Pasta Paisans have helped me get through some of my dark times of anguish and withdrawal. One of the few things that probably helped me stay the course and get cleaned up.

I was sixteen when my dad died of ALS. I wish he had the choice to die or live on as he did. I remember when he tried voicing that the hardest part of the process was that we had to suffer seeing him like that. There were times that I wished I could’ve let him die sooner if he so desired to. Thank you all for making and voicing this story.

My dad passed away this year and listening to you talk about your dad was great. My dad and I played pilot wings so much. One of our last days together I brought out my n64 and we played for a bit before his pain meds made him too tired to continue and I'll always cherish.
I lost my grandmother to dementia. The end had me ugly crying. Thank you so much for narrating this story, and huge thank you to the writer.
This story legit had me on the verge of tears. While listening I understood parts, and didn't understand other parts. But the authors words at the end brought it all to light and I understood why it hit so hard. I just finished and heard the final message from the author. I am in tears. I have always supported the right that one should pass on their own terms, (euthanasia, assisted euthanasia or death, etc). I am going to graduate school soon to be an occupational therapist, and the fact that there are people that still cannot agree on this is heartbreaking. No one can understand the pain unless it's the person that's losing themselves (whether it be mentally or physically), and of course, the family and caretakers. This is the first time I've heard a horror writer/story discuss it, and as twisted as it is, its a great story to show to those who disagree. Thank you all for your hard work.
I just want to say, having listened to the author's notes at the end, there is no over dramatization of dementia. My mom recently passed from Parkinson's and she had sever Parkinson's related dementia and it was absolutely horrifying. Nobody can truly understand the horror of it unless they've seen their loved one go through it. Some of the worst moments where when she truly understood she was terminal and there was no hope and her life was completely gone. The absolute devastation of that realization in those fleeting moments is more horrifying than anything I could possibly imagine and again I don't think anyone can truly understand how devastating such a condition is unless they've seen someone they love go through it which is why your story really hit a cord in me listening to it. I loved your story and I feel like I need to listen to it a second time especially after hearing your epilogue. Thank you sir for your artistry. It is quite special.

She doesn't even remember she's married anymore and watching my grandpa and dad try to help her when she doesn't know what's happening just hurts so bad. It’s honestly not exaggerated when saying that this channel is my go-to on youtube. Not many days pass without me listening to the stories of this channel. I’ve been browsing through other ‘reddit stories’ narrated by the simple ai voice for some time now, but this channel is truly. wow. The narrative isn’t just plain, the stories don’t repeat and, there is actual plot besides rambling about otherworldly entities. As a person who struggles with anxiety, ocd and is autistic, my mind gets quiet fuzzy at times, but honestly, this channel is doing wonders. whatever I’m doing, I find myself listening to something. keeping me focused. no podcast ever before has caught me like that. seriously, thank you for the stories you read. it’s not much by a single person across the globe, still, this little community means a lot to me. thank you, so much.

I watched this twice, the first time i thought this was a pretty good story, the second time i watched it I started crying pretty hard with all the context i had this story just hit different the second time around,

I did the same, and 3/4 through the name of the character clicked.....Demi......Dementia.
both the writing and the narration for this one were incredible. and the outro from Dusklight made me cry, as a person who also lost their beloved father to terminal illness. I miss him more than ever given my current life circumstances, not helped by the fact that both the Father's Day my country celebrates and the 5th anniversary of his death are coming up soon.

Knowing the context now makes this truly a devastating story. I am so sorry, dementia is horrible and to be honest having gone thru serious memory issues myself makes the disease so much more terrifying.
You can hear the pain in Dusk’s voice at the end and I just want to acknowledge how strong you are. This story is a beautiful tribute, I’m sure he would’ve loved it. A late family member of mine had dementia, and it's so horrifying.
We had our funny moments where we were complete strangers and we just became friends and got so close in a matter of minutes and then they would laugh their ass off when the realized who I am. And then we had our moments where we would sit in silence as they tried to remember so much as their own name.
It's such a sad thing to see, but I'm beyond happy to have the good and the bad memories, and I'm so proud of that you've done with the story, I'm sure your dad would be proud too. You're doing great things mate

I usually listen to these over several nights as I fall into sleep. This was the rare story that I started playing where it left off as soon as I woke up. It had an aura of unknown and the confused. As when trying to separate the tangible from the ephemeral. When suddenly pulled from a deep sleep. I think its a sign of a good writer and narration when reader starts to connect meaning and clues to their own memory and experiences. Instead of just supplementing what they would do in this situation. This story gripped my curiosity and my emotions. I am sorry for what you lost and your pain. This story will stay with me.
I spent this story trying to figure out why it felt so eerily familiar to me but it wasn’t until the authors after note that I realized why.
I’ve spent several years working in healthcare, specifically with dementia patients and it’s one hell of a ride for the victim and the caregivers. The contrast between the fog and those brief moments of pure clarity is heartbreaking, along with the slow loss of everything that made that person “ them” long before the body gives out. I’ve often explained it as “ dying before you die” to family members. Your writing captured what you wanted to perfectly, the narration was spectacular and I am so glad you have this outlet to handle some of your grief and loss.

I was involved in a pretty terrible accicent on July 22nd. I had legitimately perished, and was then in a coma. When i finally made it homr, the first thing i did was listen to my subscriptions. You all have helped out so dang much, just wanted to make sure you all knew.
I was feeling alone, forgotten, and lost....but your friendly voices touched me, and made me feel something that I havent in a while. So....thank you all.
Im slowly working my way back in to the world, but its been hard, but you guys have also been here....and it helped.

Ive just finally finished the story and listened to the last 10-12 minutes of the video. My goodness! The tears are a-flowin here on this dreary afternoon. Spoiler alert: I knew what it alluded to before the author verified my guess. II took care of my grandpa for 7 years as I watched him deteriorate with dementia, heart failure, and type 2 diabetes. In the end, he slipped away and transitioned while under Hospice care, and I had essentially been acting as his personal nurse, advocate, loving granddaughter for the entirety of it. I wish my grandpa had the option as well. The way it was drawn out and the indignities he suffered, slowly turning from a proud black man who came from nothing and worked his way to success, raising a happy family during a time when the more melanated human beings were seen as less than worthy...to basicity a blubbering, fearful child-like shell of his former self.... in constant pain and terror. I totally agree, there should be a choice. He would've definitely ended it with our memories untainted by what that horrible disease did to him. 😔 thank you Mr. Lea. I empathize.
I absolutely love the story. I’m glad I stuck around for the commentary when he explained everything I got a little emotional. My heart went out to that guy and it was like I could hear his pain through his talking about his father but I’m glad he got his creativity back through perseverance.

T.J Your story hit home hard. I've lost my mother to cancer 9 years ago and she was the one that brought the joy of videogames to me as well. Sonic, Zelda, entire era of N64 and PSX. That love still persists to this day and I look fondly back to older memories with my mother. But also as you said, you never get that back and you miss these moments dearly.
I don't know your father, but I'm certain that he'd be proud of you, both of who you are as a person and how far you've come. Your stories are genuinely one of my favorites, and many others surely agree with me on that. I hope you take care of yourself.

The writing didn't make sense, why did they call demi a guy, but then use they and he. It seems like the writer didn't decide on a gender until later, and then forgot to change half of the they's to he's

@@babypickleyellow It's not a grammatical choice, it's a grating misuse of language that makes it very draining to listen to, so i simply stopped.
"They" does not function in any capacity as a pronoun for a singular entity, and trying to use it in lieu of many viable pronouns intended for singular entities (including nomenclature) is just aggravating to listen to.
Sorry that you somehow feel upset by someone being annoyed at blatant grammatical errors that not only distract, but significantly detract from the story.
You are, of course, allowed to choose to be wrong, but you can not claim that something objectively incorrect is merely a stylistic choice.

It doesn't need anything complex to figure it out either. Try conjugating "is" or "has" for instance with "they" and you only get plural forms, because "they" is a plural form, and thus cannot be used in lieu of a singular pronoun.
Well, unless you want to sound like you drool on your shirt regularly and use "they is" "they was" and "they has", or something.
I loved this story. The voice acting along with the sound effects really made this a unquie experience. My grandmother. who passed away on July 22. was fighting with dementia. It was hard. Because this person who I admire, this person who I loved slowly forgot me, she forgot english and went back to only speaking Spanish, I don't know Spanish well enough to talk to her so my way of talking to her was expressing my love. It was heartbreaking. I spoke the day of her funeral and I thought I was going to be able to keep my compsure, but I started sobbing. Sobbing like I've never had. Listening to the author telling his own story brought me some comfort and I began to cry again
That message in the end really tied up the story together. It was so good. Wonderful job DusklightRadio
I would just like to say, this had me crying at work. Both of my grandmas have Alzheimer’s and the ending where he talks about his dad had me thinking about the progression of the disease taking over their lives. My one grandma no longer can speak or eat on her own and my other has just started to forget things such as where she is and who people are. This story is an amazing representation of what I imagine my grandma’s brain is comprehending.I would love to think that my grandma is in a different world full of happy memories as she stares at the wall or out the window. Thank you for this story and thank you for bringing light to the effect of those cognitive diseases that have made us lose people we love before they even depart from our lives.
This channel is one of the best I've ever found. Thank you for reminding me of writing, the art form I love. I've heard it said recently that perfect is the antithwsis of good or even, complete and I let myself get so hung up on the idea that I shouldn't share anything I wrote with anyone because it wouldn't be good enough that I could never really finish anything. The quality and the emotional depth of what you choose to share here hit close to home and I owe it to myself if no one else to just, make what I'm going to. That might have been a bit self serving to comment but thanks for being committed to a quality that leaves an impression.
This'll probably be lost but I absolutely love TJ's stories. The bar series is the story that got me hooked on the dark somniums narration. So thank you both for creating such a fantastic stories and for amazing narration that always gets me hooked on the story no matter what kind

I just finished this story. The previous times I kept zoning out because I didn't really know what was going on, what the story was getting at. But unfortunately, I lost my grandmother to dementia a few weeks ago and now I don't care what anyone says, I know EXACTLY what this man is talking about. I feel you sir TJ Lee and my heart and condolences go out to you and your family. I guess my grandmother really did help me one last time, cause now I get to enjoy this story and really feel someone else going through the same thing as me. Thank you so much to all the narrators, you all played an important and great part in telling the story the way I believe the author needed it to be and of course, once again, thank you to the author TJ Lee for bringing what I'm sure alot of people are thinking into a story that can allow us to come to terms with our emotions and thoughts. I am a long time time fan/listener and I wanted to say thank you. I am currently in the process of my grandpa (one of my best friends) slowly passing away from dementia and this story helped me feel like I am not alone. Stories like that don’t break my heart but shine the light on the fact that my heart is already broken. It’s honestly such a relief to get this emotions out. While I’m remember I’m devastated, I’m grateful I get to process bit by bit during such moments.

I can't say that the stories in horror ever scare me but I love that I got a physical reaction from this one. The after "preamble" was harder than the story. My father is going through some things and I don't know how long I have him. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you know you have brought me to tears.
