Emily that piece for your mother needs to be your focus piece. OMG I love the fabric you are using. The motivation would be you need to finish it asap so your mother can enjoy it while she is here to cherish it .

I stitched Emily's house in 2023 and framed it and have it up on my wall. I Absolutely adored stitching it and I love being able to see it every day. This was a stunning WIP parade. Thank you for taking the time to share.

I'm lucky - my maiden name is Rose and there are many, many samplers with rose motifs or Rose as the middle name of the stitcher. My mother's maiden name was Shields and that's what Blackbird's "Sisters" book is all about. Also, my paternal great grandmother's name was Carr and I have "Mary Carr". One of these days maybe you'll find sampler with your maiden name. It could happen!

You're not alone. I lost my dad 10 years ago this past November 30. It still isn't easy. A few years ago I stitched a piece in remembrance of him. It was Silver Creek Samplers When Life is Done. It was a hard stitch to make it through.

I always enjoy seeing what you are working on or planning to work on. You have so many beautiful projects. When you mentioned that you have a piece that you want to do for your mother, I decided that I wanted to share my story with you and you can decide to take it or leave, totally up to you. I lost my mother on Christmas Eve this year, she was 97 and had lived a good life and over the last couple of years her vision was almost non-existent which greatly affected her quality of life. I have a WIP of Jesus that she absolutely loved, and you probably know where this is going. I did not make it a priority to finish it before she passed so I just want to share this with you so that you might avoid the guilt feeling this has given me. I am now finishing it and I hope to have it inscribed on her headstone, but I so wish that I had just gone ahead and finished it instead of putting it off. Your mother is one year younger than me, so I pray that you don’t have any regrets. I also have a piece that is one that my daughter wants (there are two pieces that coordinate with each other), and I already have one of them done and framed. As soon as I finish the Jesus portrait, I am going to focus on the piece for my daughter so I don’t disappoint her by not finishing it. I just felt that I needed to share this with you and you can decide what you want to do. I definitely do not pass any judgement on anyone but I so wish I had made better choices when I still had the time. P.S. Your kitty is absolutely adorable!! Blessings to you for 2024!

I am trying to get inspired to stitch. Who better to catch up with than you? I didn’t expect you to make me cry. I lost my father back in April. I still can’t seem to wrap my mind around it. My heart gets it, but I’m still working through the PTSD of the whole hospice experience and taking care of him the last two years. It’s actually a good thing when the tears come.

Your WIPS are all gorgeous. Just an idea, could you number each of your WIP bags, then on 1st day of month, draw 2 numbers, work on those two for a week each, then use other two weeks to work on new starts or SALs. Alternate weeks, no fixed plan.
Lots of unfinished pieces frazzel me, so I have four.
Another idea is put the WIPS in closest to finished order and do those first for two weeks.
But I overthink everything, so do You!
Each wip would have some progress by year’s end.

I don’t mind construction sounds, my dad was a contractor and it brings me joy to hear it cause it means something is getting fixed or something new for someone is coming. Where we live however we are in the mountains where you would expect solitude, but no we have tourists in Airbnbs around us nonstop ready to party and thinking your yard is the forest and they can come on it. Ugh. I wear noise canceling headphones when the music and cursing is out of control. Mountains have no noise ordinance so yay 🎉

I am with you about Red Deer. It was supposed to be a focus for me in 2023 so that I would finish it and I didn’t. It’s back on the list for 2024. Ann Rayner is the same way. I think I don’t like the bright colors on it. I should have done Sarah Stewart Harriman. Maybe I should pass my Ann Rayner on to someone else to finish.

Emily, you said it yourself… mothers don’t live forever.. please do it and give it to her. You will be so upset if not. I just turned 67new yrs eve and this yr is working on ones for my husband, son, daughter and dil and sil. I wont get them all done this yr but working on finishing the haed for my husband now and all feb with full coverage feb except feb 1 as my son’s 46th bday and l will work on his. Having had breast cancer, I understand how life can be omg is this it… just do it for all the mothers who reply!❤. My mother died june 1 2009 and still to this day I miss her so much. Talk to her daily, perhaps that is also why I hope you get your mum’s done. My dad died 2015 and miss him as well. I was fortunate to have them in my life so long.
