I have one of these in 1/4" I saved from getting tossed out; the grease inside had slightly hardened and the quick release was jammed but it freed up after adding some oil to the button and pushing it many times. Love that little guy, he’s small but tough when elbow grease is needed!
Good looking Ratchet too bad they cheap out on a few things plastic selector switch and a backing plate made from a Black Label beer can LOL .. For a DIY person that would be a nice Ratchet to have for everyday use stick with the Pro Brands .. Great video Mr Ratchetman enjoy your weekend and pour yourself a nice glass of Black label Beer
You would think for a somewhat more premium ratchet they would keep it all metal,..nope😒👎. Hope you’re having a great weekend also. I prefer the German wheat beer myself 😉
They make a specific tool to hold down the spring and bball. Still available "craftsman ratchet repair tool" makes the job much easier. The 1/4 inch can be problematic to clean and repair.without.
I did Jerry rig a homemade tool a while back and it’s somewhere lol. I’ve taken apart this style so many time most times I can get by with a small screwdriver
For straight vintage ratchets, the Snap-on and Cornwell or Mac are the best. In some cases where a fine tooth is not needed, they better than what's sold today.
Friend of mine had a 3/8 long handle, one of these ratchets back in the day. I loved that ratchet. I recently was going to grab one from eBay but for some reason the people trying to sell them on there think they are made of pure gold? Idk? The prices are easy to high, I just bought a brand new ratchet that was similar for half the price they want. Thanks for the video.
A good trick when you dont feel like removing the pal and spring (or for a newbie to use this technique) is to fill a jar with paint thinner or lighter fluid and just sit the ratchet head in, and let it dissolve the grease, then you can take it out wipe it off and let it dry and add new grease or a drop of oil.
Good video, thanks for sharing. I use a similar tool for the ball, but filed mine down to a thin profile to make it easier to get it all back in there. I have learned a lot from your channel!
From the era when Craftsman discovered value engineering, It's a shame as the handles were actually pretty comfortable to use. Those selector levers can and do break off.

Nice looking ratchets! They also made 3/8" stubby flex head and a 3/8" bent handle ratchets in this full polish style.
I haven't seen a bent handle ratchet in this style but I'll keep an eye out for one!

Yeah the prices on eBay are often ridiculous . If you are patient are keep looking they pop up on eBay for a decent price from time to time though

i like the quarter drive ones worth the trouble to strip and clean cheers.
Yeah from what I’ve seen seems the little one the most popular of the bunch👍
Nice ratchets. I wish they would have used thicker backing plates.
Yes I agree. They are literally flimsy

Yeah trying to save some pennies per ratchet and wound up cheapening the brand 🫤
