@theletteronyourcoat Hey, with the album version, if you split the left and right channels in something like Pro Tools, Logic, etc, you'll find that the guitar and bass are panned VERY slightly left and right. Put a stereo widener on it, go about +0.8 or so, but pan them hard left and right. I found the same thing long ago with EXTREME's "Pornograffitti" album.
I LOVE Justin's sound(s)... he uses a triangle solid 1 MM pick, Digitech Whammy pedal, Ernie Ball 45-105 strings, Demeter (VTBP-201S) Bass Preamp which goes straight into the mixing desk, a "TURBO-RAT" pedal (remake of the late 70's RAT), a KHDK's bass overdrive, and a MESA-BOOGIE AMP HEAD which goes into his huge speakers (AMPEG, mostly). I always record bass with the direct AND amp sounds (2 mics on the amp at various distances). So yeah, trial and error, I figured out a way to do it. Don't forget a LOT of it has to do with his PICK and how he ATTACKS the strings at a certain velocity. Oh, and yes, he has a BOSS compressor/limiter pedal.
I stopped using the Comments Boards on YT. But I gotta make an exception here. I've listened to thousands of Tool clips, since 2008. This channel, & the recordings I've heard thus far, are in a league of their own. This is digital brilliance. I saw them play, yet again, on Fri night, so I've reacquired the itch. A thousand thank yous for this channel.
idk how hard it is to put these (what I imagine being scattered footages) together, but I'd like just to take a moment to appreciate that this channel is uploading these; mjk voice is crystal clear here, with danny's cams? pfff 10/10
I think it IS my FAVOURITE SONG EVER. I did an ACOUSTIC, LIVE version on here, with vocals, 5 microphones. (for those interested).. This song's musicality is supreme, and the message itself is something that EVERYONE should learn. It certainly made me think twice about my decisions 24 years ago and continues to this day. THAT is why I covered it.
@@toolliveremastered3055 Maynard actually manages to do it now :D i've been to June2024 performance of The Grudge. it was amazing and beyond any expectations. there are lives you can find on youtube
shiiiit I recognized the first four clicks. sound is a wonderful thing. is this hammerstein ballroom? my first tool show. one of my first shows. so much mind blowingness. thank you for remastering this!

Mix really features Justin’s work. Hearing stuff that after 20 years I hadn’t noticed before.
Yes, the fact that the guitar sounds low makes you see the song under a different light. I also like it.
As a bassist I really appreciate this mix. a lot of unheard dynamics here.

Damn! I wish what he is doing was this apparent on the album. It sounds amazing!
Justin’s bass is so clear in this
The guitar sounds low but that gives a new light to the song.

Discovered this video in 2024 and realised I've been playing the bass wrongly since 2004 🙈😂Great work on bringing Justin out in the mix. Subbed.
One of my favourite songs ever
A perfect opening for such album as Lateralus...

Any singing tips?
remastered with no guitar!
Your audio sucks. Can barely hear the guitar.
