I’m not an expert. I just have a lot of experience…… humble as they come, and he didn’t attack the boots and bash on them. Humble and hardworking men’s opinion 🤟🏽
He had a high opinion of Thursday and even talked of getting a pair. He had a couple differences of opinions on care products but overall same idea. Thanks for checking it out and we are always searching the website for our next pair!!
My father had a friend who had a shoe and bike repair shop. I spent a lot of time in there. What I remember the most is the smells. Now there's not a shoe repair shop in fifty miles. We've become a disposable culture. Most shoes and boots sold today can't be repaired. What a shame. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah those smells are unbeatable! Appreciate your sentiments, that’s what I’m all about on this channel and that’s why I’m heading to the PNW boot shops so often. Joe at this shop is an awesome friend!
Its crazy . You smell that smell and it takes you back to when you were a kid. I get that when I smell tires. Use to work in tire shop. All those memories flood back
Thank you so much for this and please thank your shoemaker friend for his expertise and tips (I apologize I’ve forgotten his name and I’m knee deep in this video lol). Looks like a pair of Thursdays have made my shopping list, been really on the bench about it.
"I'm not an expert" lol Yeah he is! He's also really kind to let you film bro, props to him and giving you his insight. I need to try the storm king sole! I don't think the other sole cuts it in colorado and feel like I can bust my ass in them with precipitation like sleet.
Yea I live by Chicago. My only complaint about their regular sole is I have almost busted my ass about 50 times the past few years in the snow and ice. Amazingly waterproof and love wearing them, but the storm king sole is needed for the winter months.
@@ryanturner8577 I absolutely agree 100%! That's why it wasnt worth it for me to keep them in the regular sole. I felt like an idiot taking tiny steps to not slip in these boots. I'm gonna try the storm king this winter and make an update video on them and see how they perform in Colorado.
@@stylewithaltitude Awesome I look forward to seeing your update. I just ordered the captain stormkings in the matte olive leather color so we'll both be putting them to the test. I have some high hopes for them. Plus they look pretty badass haha.
I'n not personally familiar with the Norwegian conditioner, hopefully another guy will chime in and offer some advice. Conditioners that lean toward oil over wax may lend toward a matte look. Also, stay away from over buffing or polishing cloth to keep that matte look. Thanks a ton for watching and catch ya in the next video. Cheers
If you wanted to buy it from him would he sell and ship it. Great video and fantastic information. Even a cheap pair of boots are not cheap. So get a better boot and get a better fit and feel. Your feet deserve it.
Thanks for the video, what a pleasant man Mr. Martinez is. I purchased the captain's as yourself, it appears the sole has chipped away at the toe, mine have worn to the leather in the same spot after six weeks of use. I've applied epoxy there to get some more wear from them. Thursday wasn't all that helpful with customer service, however I still like the boot a lot. Be well, and God bless you.
It's great to hear from you. I really enjoy Joseph, he is a kind man. Darn that toe chipping away.... I can say that I have not had to contact Thursday for much but it's a bummer you had that experience. Really appreciate you checking in on our videos!
I have a boot with cowhide leather. I wanted to make them darker like rugged. What oil to use. Some say just use Nivea hand conditional will do the trick. Please advise
Thursdays rugged and resilient leather is essentially a nubuck leather. Bickmore 4 would be a great option. Just brush the boots before and after applying it. Whatever you do, do NOT use products like Venetian shoe cream or Saphir Oiled leather cream on nubuck leathers (rugged and resilient).
It's a controversial topic for sure, Thursday says it's a no no but plenty of guys are leaning the other way. I have yet to put any type of conditioner on mine and have no plans to do so! Cheers man and thanks for chiming in!!
@@GentlemansJourney It's not just Thursday, any company selling tough nubuck will give the same advice (e.g Timberland). Reddit /r/goodyearwelt gets people asking how to undo the damage after they conditioned it regularly...
I mean no disrespect to the gentleman, but he referred to Venetian as good for cleaning, insinuating that that was it''s only purpose. Then he stated that mink oil and neatsfoot oil are petroleum based. All of this is incorrect and I need not listen to any more to dismiss his advice.
It took me 3 minutes to google about Mink and Neatsfoot, and I think he might be right. Thing is that he said it in a firm tone as if of those products were petroleum-based, but what I found from my search tells me that some of those products do have "sneaky chemicals" added to them that could damage leather. You just have to know which ones to trust. He trusted his old stuff, that's pretty much all he was trying to say.
Since he has to breathe the air while conditioning boots, I think he know as soon as he opens the bottle or can. You become sensitive over time to industrial chemicals. And he can smell an old boot and see how the leather cracks with these chemicals. Real mink oil and real hoof oil (without the solvents) would be better, but much more expensive.
I guess I'm curious what it was but don't think i want to know.. Too bad I can't control what ads they run on my videos. Cheers man thanks for watching!
That isn’t true. Every boot on their website says Goodyear welt construction. I’ve owned the Captain, Cadet, Legend and Diplomat. All are Goodyear welted. Only the sneakers aren’t which is understandable.

What color was this boot in the video? The standard Brown?
Yup that's the standard Brown.
I use a combination of netsfoot oil and beeswax to condition my boots
Sounds like a good set up! 🥾🥾
Which polish cream/oil won't darken the shoes?
Bick 4 or redwing leather cream. Check my channel for videos on both of them

What’s the best conditioner for the rugged and resilient leather that won’t change the color or texture
