When they sign their contracts with these powerful music companies part of their contracts state that they can't say or use the word JESUS in their songs. Not all artists but some do. Let me share a story: in art school, on a class day trip to a local museum, I found myself infuriated over a painting I took to be a total, unapologetic piece of shit not worthy of an alley wall let alone here. I wanted to rip it off the wall. To piss on it at the least.
Later I learned that the artist was once a successful illustrator and a really great draughtsman. This cat could draw. So why the chimpanzee art I had seen in the museum?
It occurred to me that this artist had tricked me. He made me feel. HE MADE ME FEEL ANGER. That's an incredible thing. With some pigment on canvas this guy had me ready to do violence.

This is gonna take a LONG time (and please for the love of god read what I have to say), but I'm going to explain how that was actually an artwork and not a satanic cult thingy (i.e. showing how art developed into becoming what is it today, and what Marina Abramovic actually does in her work, clue: it's nothing got to do with satanism or even religion for that matter, that's just another random tactic to destroy Hillary Clinton (I support neither canditate so don't judge me for being bias)).
Around the late Victorian times in Paris, the then centre of the art world, artists started to experiment with their paintings. Because the invention of photography ment that artists were no longer needed to accurately depict the world, they could start to follow other things through art. Many of them chose to follow the ideas and concepts of philosophy (i.e. aesthetics and purity), and how that could be felt and experienced in art (this idea of philosophy and deep thinking in art started from the Romanticist movement (search it up yourself, I think you'll like it)). Artists did this by focusing on beautiful colours and free flowing brishstrokes to capture a moment of beauty. This was called Impressionism. The contemporary art scene quickly spreaded across Europe, in places like Berlin, London, Rome, etc. The boom in industrialisation, the horrors of WW1, and the speedy advancement of technology meant that artists wanted to turn art into something that reflected this all. Art movements such as Cubism and Expressionism are all an example of this: Cubism reflected on the destruction of traditions (destroying representation all together by abstracting it); Expressionism reflected on how self destructive society was becoming thanks to war, loss of hope, etc. (they expressed the negative feelings felt with disturbing and unaesthetical pictures). One art movement, Dadaism, focused on using ridiculousness and the surreal to ridicule WW1 and the politics around it. An artist heavily involved in this movement, Marcel Duchamp, felt like art had no purpose, and often questioned what it was and whether it was something to please the viewer, or to make them think and question (again drawing art back to philosophy). He did this by placing a public urinal in an art gallery, and calling it art. He got the reaction he wanted, and caused the biggest upheaval in art. This kind of art was called Conceptualism, and carries on even to this day. Other art movements branched off of this, and the one that we're focising on is performance art (this is where things become more relevant). Performance art was created and finalised around the 1960s and 70s. It consists of a performer doing an action, which is similar to the other arts. Duchamp's structure of creating something that questioned and spawned deep thinking was taken one step further. Human interaction was added and blended in, making the artwork more 'human' and challenging in a way. Marina Ambramovic, the artist in that video, was an important figure in this movent, and is referred to by some as 'the grandmother of performance art'. During her early career, and even in recent years (something that isn't common with already famous artists that have already created their core work), she has perfectioned this style of art, exploring the human side to it. Growing up in Serbia during the USSR's reign, she was never really loved nor cared for propely by her parents. This developed into her work, as she tried to explore the core emotions that we feel: mainly pain and fear/shock, but also our connections with others through spiritual means (note: when I use spiritual, I don't mean that it's some weird voodoo shit, it's more of a Buddhist kind of spiritual, like meditation for example (plus spirituality isn't really focused that much in her gory work, but still it is used as a tool to explore pain and suffering; for example, symbolism is only used to give a subconscious effect, so something you could connect to and understand in some way, even though it is completely random)). Stuff like fire, violence and blood is used in her work as a tool to see how far humans can go, whether it is how far they can go when they are allowed to act out violent acts (search up 'Rhythm 0', it's a work of hers that explores this to its maximum), questioning whether we are actually violent and cruel, or how far humans can go in the most purest and human of circumstances, away from the useless technologies that turn us into something more artificially minded (search up 'The Artist is Present' -- it's quite hard to grasp at first, but try to explore how the viewers/participants felt). This all is really hard to see when it is *MASSIVELY* put out of context for political reasons and deamed satanic worshipping. Throughout the decades, she has repeatedly become well known and put into the spotlight, hence her connections with interested celebrities such as Lady Gaga and John Podesta.
