14:28 Clip the tubes with binder clips on the crimp end, then you can hang them up in your sightline in a row of tacks or hooks, or even a magnet bar like you'd use in a kitchen for knives.

A tip for oil paints in tubes and how to store/arrange them for easy visibility, I saw a someone use binder clips on the ends where it's crimped over, to effectively add loops that could then be hung from pegs. As you use the paint in the tube, roll up the end like toothpaste and reclip. Gives a nice visual for when a paint is running low too.

i used to be a traditional oil painter and this method works great, just make sure your caps are on nice and secure so they dont leak. I used command strips on the outside of my painting cabinet, and hang the clips off of them. Iv used this method for years without any issues.

Investing in a proper chair is absolutely the right call! Thanks for pointing that out.
I don't know what your chair costs, but if it is good long lasting quality, then it is most certainly worth every penny of it.
I got my DX Racer King Size almost a decade ago. During that timespan i would have had to buy several of the cheaper office chairs, becuase they always break down after 1-2 years andfrankly, they are not that comfortable at all anyway.
In contrast, my chair is still holding strong. It sure looks worn and well used, but the cussins are still top, the technical parts are working well and I can sit on it propery supported.
Yes it's a big chunk up front, but it will pay out in the long run.

I have a lower lumbar back injury that can be pretty nasty pain wise at times. As I’m renovating and building a new dedicated mini painting room I was wondering what to do for the desk.
I too like a higher desk for painting and use a sit stand desk currently. It’s cheap and pretty wobbly so I don’t want to use it again. That means I’m thinking either build a dedicated desk or buy a more expensive sit stand one.
I’ve considered a chair that can adjust the height for a stationary desk. But I just don’t know if that’s the best as I’m trying to do the “keep legs 90 degrees from butt to floor”. But perhaps that might not matter so much.

  • @MrVolvobloke
    @MrVolvobloke 2 года назад

When I was young I didn't have anywhere to paint, so I used to paint lying on the floor with a cushion under my chest for support. I got so used to this that now at 55 I STILL paint lying on the floor with a cushion. Keeps my back dead straight and I've never had any back issues. Additionally it's great for elbow support.

Absolutely agree about the higher desk level meaning that you force the body to retain a good posture. I have injury-induced scoliosis, and I found painting at a conventional desk to eventually become incredibly painful after a time; I put a dining chair at the kitchen counter (I live alone, so I’m not inconveniencing anyone else) and it’s much, much better. An underrated tip!

No neck pains, no back pains, easier to see the details on a model even when my sons have run away with my magnifiers again shouting "I am the genius nardis now!"

Printers need a dedicated space away from where you spend time while they are printing. Ive tried using a tent with extractor in my office but it still wasnt good enough, the printers get contaminated with uncured resin while operating unless youre going to fully clean them between prints the VOCs will get out of hand. Not to mention, if you're printing regularly then youre also opening up a vat of isopropyl alcohol or other cleaning solution which is also contaminated with resin.

Most definitely agree on the spending the most on your chair message. Also, please go with an office chair like Jon did. Way better than gaming chairs.

I have an almost identical airbrush tub! It's easily the best thing I've added to the setup and makes me much more likely to get the airbrush out, especially just for a quick job.

In addition to a dumbbell which I have around, I got these things called alpha grips which you can use to exercise your forearms and combat carpal tunnel, they’re super helpful.

Equal parts love & envy of your amazing set up! Thank you for the excellent tip about venting / filtering from the spray booth, that’s been a huge challenge for me

How in the heck have you attached your mic arm to your ceiling steel bar? Is it the Neewer/SmallRig Super Clamp?

Well it does seem better then using a fold chair while sitting on a bed. Also the room is like 2/3ed the size of a regular 36square meter flat here.

Such a great set up! Loved those modular paint racks for dropper bottles, did I miss a link to those? Being able to store them bottom out is great for finding the right color!

Hi Ninjon, I've watched a bunch of your vids and in one or two of them you recommended different white and metallic paints than citadel, but I can't remember which video's. Can you tell me which ones you find better?
