You know the world's messed up when finance careers pay more than biomedical engineering which is arguably the most impactful for human life on this list.
I see your point, but I think you should probably focus more on the positives. The future is looking bright in many areas :)
What about how a bitcoin (which is literally a computer arithmetic operation) is more valuable than a hospital ventilator.
It doesn't have to do anything with the world. Finance degrees tend to go down paths such as Investment Banking and other lucrative positions in top companies, helping save them and their clients lots of money. Good companies are willing to play top dollar. Biomed engineering on the other hand doesn't have that same growth opportunity to go into high management roles, and there's too much red tape in the healthcare devices space and innovation times are much longer.
A degree about making money makes money?????!!😨😨😨😨 Who would have guessed?!
That just how the world 🌎🌍 goes 😕
This one is very precise, accurate and as well as more importantly very professional and motivational.
Thank you for making the video. It is very helpful for students like me who are suffering on choosing what engineering career path I should choose in my life.
This is seriously such quality content lol. I really wanted to be a MechE back in the day
Thank you bro! Appreciate it
I think another great career path that was maybe overlooked under management is Product Management. Most, if not all of my coworkers share a background in EE and quickly jumped into PM. Myself with a background in IoT jumped in this ship to gain the skills and hopefully in the distant future become an entrepreneur.
Would you recommend someone major in management engineering? I'm looking into this career because it could lead to product management and finance related work. And also, do you know the salary range for this career? Thank you.
In my opinion this software engineering, Data science and computer science majors are going to be very competitive in the future. Its a bubble. What degree would you recommend to a person who likes an active role(not a boring desk job), and has very good pay right after college. I also want to start a business at some point in my life. What are the best engineering degrees that I should consider.
I agree but with how much the market demands, even the F tier software engineers will be able to get a decent job.
What do you mean it is a bubble?
🤣🤣 sounds like u need a software engineering degree
Probably Industrial engineering. It’s also known as the business and engineering degree, it’s extremely flexible and it has an average of about 85k right out of college
In my honest opinion, computer engineering is the best way to go - not only are you near the intersection of in-demand software engineering roles, but you also have the unique vantage of understanding and designing hardware, which can be turned into products and sold.
My parents are probably here to decide what i am going to study...
Study what YOU want to study(just be reasonable lol), don’t let your parents live through you.
@@gibran6190 Imagine saying that to Indian parents😂
@@LightOfOrthodoxy
It’s a general rule, what culture is in question is irrelevant, if you want to let your parents decide your whole life that’s your prerogative.
@@gibran6190 boi you're getting slapped
@@gibran6190 Don't worry bro. My parents are ok with me choosing any degree, it is just a joke that Indians can relate to.
I study computer science myself but I'm very interested in electrical engineering as well. I wanna take a couple of electrical engineering courses in the coming semesters to set myself up for a masters degree at the intersection of cs and ee.
Why not do computer engineering?
Mechatronics - it combines mechanical, electrical and software. Plus it’s going be a great job in the coming years
@@Pixel_Po27Some college doesn’t have CE. They named it EECS department such as MIT and Berkeley
Biomedical engineers should be higher on the list. According to the Bureau of labor statistics, they make a bit more than mechanicals with significantly higher pay in certain states. Location matters a bunch for some engineering jobs like chemical, petroleum, and computer engineers.
Another kind of engineer few people have heard of - natural language processing engineer. It’s using machine learning to help computers with human languages. Think Alexa, Siri, and Google Home.
Great video Shanne!
Thank you Francisco!
hey Shane, please do another economics degree, thanks :)
Another degree like the "As an economics degree worth it" video I did last year?
@@ShaneHummus what do you think about Business Marketing Informatics?
Us civil engineers are not paid enough.
hey Shane, appreciate your content. Can you do a future video on your thoughts about Medical Physics and clinical science career stats
Is this salaries in US? They are pretty good I must say. Mechanical engineer with a Master of Science degree here in Sweden makes around $40k per year before 25% tax, so actually closer to $30k. I am born in the wrong country.
Va? 33 400 brutto? Som Masteringenjör???
Näääää. Då har du väl mest dragit en nitlott eller har precis börjat jobba.
i have a biomed bachelors and masters. lol. but, I've always in manufacturing. I actually started at a Japanese automotive manufacturer when i finished my masters. Now, most recently, I got a job making $115k at a medical device manufacturer at the age of 29.
hey! i am interested in studying biomed, but I'm not quite sure if I should go for it. would you mind sharing what your experience been like, especially in the work area or the salary right out of college? thank you!!😊
@@AAbena Was definitely a struggle. $58.5k at a Japanese auto parts manufacturer 2 weeks after graduating with the masters. They pushed me up to $60k after 1 year. Then I quit for a med device job and moved to a new state for $73k. Got fired from that one 6 months in. Then, 4 months later, making about $83k at a different auto manufacturer. had to move for that one too to a new city. got laid off from that one during covid. That was actually the best thing for me. cause I got hired at a high end pharma manufacturer after that. (moved to Chicago) pay was the same as the last job, but I Mastered everything i could there. stayed about a year and a half. The auto experience + pharma experience was the perfect setup for the next job. Making about $120k now at a med device manufacturer. Also had to move to a new state. I've been there for about 2.5 years and it's going great. my path was tough but it's working out. bought a house a little over a year ago now. I doubled my salary between graduation and about 6 years in. good luck. I would say learn what everyone does and master it all. From plc programming, to machining, to validation documentation for FDA compliance.
I’m a Chemical Engineering student minoring in Energy and experienced in cyber security… 😂

Broooo!!!
I was wishing you to make this list..
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
I chose my faculty😎✌
Glad I could grant your wish
Your content gets better with each video!!! Please do a same kind of video on IT careers
Love your work

Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering pay is actually higher due to some amounts of untaxed money..... as far as I know. Also if you don't mind, whats your opinion on Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (bachelors +master of science degree) and shipping management degree (combined) ? Greetings from Greece!!
Ioannis, thank you for the question and to be honest with you, careers are going to have different market values in different countries. With that being said, engineering focuses on practical problem solving, and the world will never run out of problems to solve. So Engineering is a solid degree/career just about everywhere in the world. But I can't comment on that specific degree in Greece unfortunately, hope this helps!
im studying mechanical engineering and just finished my first year, should i switch to electrical?
It depends. Why did you pick ME? I'm an ME that works as an Aerospace Engineer.
Yes
@@eq2092 i picked it because i thought it was very broad degree
@@cosmicking7979 both Mechanical and Electrical are equally broad but in different ways. For example an ME could work as a Civil Engineer or an EE could have an easier time getting a Computer Science role. Both are equally qualified to work in technology as long as you do the grunt work in learning to code. As part of my ME Degree I had to learn how to C-code.
So it all comes down to where your interest are. You have time to decide as all the course are the same up until your junior year. My advice is to talk to your professors and people in industry in both roles to see what it is that you like the best.
@@eq2092 will do, appreciate the advice!
As a retired Professional Teleco Engineer, I found job enjoyment was my premier requirement. A good work/life balance is more important than higher salaries or prestige.
Hey Shane. I was just wondering where you got 'The Office' sign in your setup?
Amazon I believe
Could you cover Genetic engineering in one of your next videos?
Hello shane, I have watched over many of your videos but that's after I chose my major in a college.
I've chosen management
Since it's general,
I plan to take financial management as a concentration in 3rd year later,
Taking internship and planning to take finance related graduate programs, do you think it's good?
Can you make video about management major?
I would like to watch it, thanks
FYI not all Aerospace Engineers make the same. There are subspecialties that people work on. Structural Design, Structural Analysis, Propulsion, Mechanism, Aerodynamics, Material Science, Mechanisms, Software, Electrical, Avionics, etc. Typically they ones that make the highest are the analyst. Structural, Propulsion, etc....
Yes I agree, I’ve done several videos where I get more in detail on that stuff :)
yeah but every engineering degree is this broad or broader, like mechanical includes all of these things and civil engineering, robotics, cars, etc. He's just doing in general.
Business majors are always best 😏 finance hopped in even in this list 🔥
I’m triple majoring in banking, finance and marketing ✨
Hey Shane could you possibly talk about nutrition and dietitian degrees ?
Yup! It's all here

Start my masters in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence In September; might become a machine learning engineer.
what was ur bachelors in? i want u career path
industrial engineering is my number 1 pick rn. im still in high school so i have time to decide but it just seems way too perfect for me not to go into it.
Where I living currently ( Brasil, Rio de Janeiro)i've seen engineers from the best schools as ITA ( Aeronautical Institute of Technology) or Usp ( University of São Paulo) working in finance companies and consult management as Mckinsey, Bain and Bcg, because just there are this kind job, almost there isnt industry in brazil
Great video! I’m studying EE and have 2 years left, and you mentioned Finance in the video so I’m curious to know if a minor in Business would be a good idea?
Minor in business would be a walk in the park for you as an engineering student, as long as it doesn't cause you to graduate later I think it's a good idea.
MBA is pretty great
Hi Shane
Can you do a video on information design , graphic design, information systems.
Shane! Please help me on Business Marketing Informatics. Is it a good degree choice? Thank you

For the CEO/founder which engeer path is that?
Hey Shane does mis degree require u to have managemnet skills
Also which one do you think is better masters mis or Ms data science
M from a mechanical background
It doesn’t require management skills but if you want to maximize your salary then you will eventually end up in a project manager position which will require management skills.
In our country, electrical and electronics engineering are different majors, if you could list electronics engineering from your tier list where should it be?
Hes using american data. I would not recommend using this information
I earned my BSEE from NMSU in 1989. Started working the electric utility industry as an electrical about a month after I graduated. I have been an electrical engineering manager since 2011. So, I have had TWO S-tier career paths. I stand to retire this December (2024) with 35 years in the industry at age 59. Then I am going to build a cannabis grow house and make money (I hope) with that. LOL!
Me: "I'm waiting Computer Engineering!" ;(
same that's my major 😂
i think he lumped it into technology
It falls under technology since they all go for a lot of the same positions anyways
Do a top Universities for Engineers
I don't typically do these types of videos, but US news is a good website to look up this information
I majored in nuclear engineering and also have a mechanical engineering as a backup in case nuclear industry doesn’t go well. And now I work in facade industry as mechanical engineering.
I support your choice. Though soon as we start implementing ways to reuse nuclear waste, the nuclear industry will SKYROCKET.
3M Indians entered the chat
Why is there no mention of electrical engineers? Are we in trouble? Are they not there in the highest paid category?
I haven't watched the video yet but I am guessing Computer Science will be on the top...
Sorta right haha
Mr. Shane, I have a question. I am graduating highschool next year from a low tier developing country. I have the opportunity to go study for collegr in Australia which is my goal in life. Getting accepted into engineering in Australia is easier than my country because there are more colleges and less population density. I want to study engineering because I like physics and money. But I'm really afraid that if I spend up all my dad's money and not be able to pass what will I do? I don't want to take loans because if by any chance I never pass and have to come back to my country there's no way in hell I'd be able to pay off a 1st world country debt in a barely 2nd world one. I wanted to be a petroleum engineer. But now I'm thinking I should drop the whole engineering plan. I like physics but I'm not good at it by any means. Should I just quit the dream of becoming an engineer?
I'd say go for it
bro i did sum research on petroleum engineer dont do it bro. its no jobs in pretroleum engineer literally go research videos about it a lot of people had to find new careers
can i do aerospace with a mechanical engineering degree
Yes
Did he do ChemE?
what about ''electrical and aerospace engineering '' degree? (Focus on the electronic systems of aircraft and related systems.)
I typically avoid degrees that are too specific or niche as brand name recognition is important.
@@ShaneHummus may i ask for your thoughts on the degree?
@@light2753just do electrical engineering then you can work in every field which require electronics eg aerospace marine astronomy
I think you were a bit too lenient. If majority of your list is in S tier then it's not a very accurate list
"Identity theft is no joke, Jim!"
What do you guys think about engineering technology
What about Computer Systems Engineering?🤔😃 Trying to see if it's a good course to do before I start school. Help please

Can you please do a video of best degree with the least math courses.
I think I’ve done a few degrees/careers with very little math
If I want to make ~800k a year through an engineering job at say, the peak of my career, would biomedical engineering be a viable option?
No. An extremely aggressive career path would likely see you making like 200k at peak
My guy it's extremely rare for engineers to earn that much. You're better of starting a business
you didnt mention that a large number of marine engineers get tax relief
How about system engineer?
No computer engineer? Amazing..

Hi! Can you please tell me if bachelor's in biotechnology is a good career choice?
Are industrial production manager industrial engineers?
You did not talk about Computer Engineering. Have you lumped it with another engineering degree which I missed?
I did lump that one in with Tech since they end up going into a lot of the same jobs. But it's definitely S tier

How about architectural engineering?
Where is Optical Engineer and Photon Engineer?
Which is better as a career ? Mechatronics or electrical engineering?
Mechatronics. Cause it combines electrical, mechanical and software, plus it’s going to be big in the future
I agree mechatronics has a great outlook in the automation industry since many manufacturing processes are to be fully autonomous near future.
What about financial engineering
Are electronics engineers permissible in working as software engineers or any job in the IT industry in the US?
EE degree programs tend to involve a good amount of low level programming for embedded systems. You can also get into other software engineering roles but you'll have to put in the work.
Guys what about mining engineering? I'm interested in studying it
I've gone over that one in other videos
ı didnt see anything about food engineering in all your videos

What about Machine Learning Engineers?
The pay is well (70k-120k), but you typically need a Masters degree, which obviously means it will require more time and money. I’d say A tier because of that aspect. Although, I’m sure there’s some well qualified people out there to give you a better estimate lol
