  • In this video I go through what I do to target whitefish in the spring. It's been a great spring so far with water temps staying in the 40's which makes chasing whitefish a little easier!

    Awesome. About to head out on my kayak to the last place I was catching whites in the winter. Thanks for the assurance that it could be productive.

    Thanks Justin. Perhaps one of these years I'll catch a whitefish on the soft water .

    Thank you for a great video! I wouldn't be worried about the guys coming 'close' since 'close' is what to expect on Simcoe which I try and fish often. Whities school in loose groups and do move around so if 'your spot' is where they are it is since there is an underwater 'pathway' they frequent or there is sooo much food stationed there (unlikely) that they stay pegged there.
    I find that as new fish come through most folks can get into them at least a bit although I've seen here a guy is constantly hammering them amidst envious observers. That guy is foolis to think that evryone around isn't GPSing the heck out of the spot. His fault IMHO.
    That's why I get my 2 and skeedoo!!! The more time spent catchin' and releasin' especially after the late risers start driving around looking for where boaters are catching fish, is time poorly spent. Smart anglers carry binics and when a bunch of boats are well.... bunched... that is a good place to start. How do they know you haven't chummed the spot to attract 'all' the whities? This has gone on for years and made illegal for the most part, but if you are getting fish hand over fist then expect company if you linger.
    Again thanks for the vids and hope to c you out there as I have at times. Oh and if someone is in 'your' spot next time don't automatically think the guy 'stole' your spot. Do as you have seen such folks do to you and go close to fish or go somewhere else. I am guilty of thinking this at times but have to realize that everyone with a celphone has GPS and most have sonars.
    No one owns the lake and whities abound at present. Limit was like 30 not that many years ago at least up north!!
    Like I say, get two and skeedoo! Catch and release might give others a feast!
    All the best and keep up the great work helping everyone catch whities on Simcoe!

    Hey man, love the videos thanks!
    Next time could you go into some details about boat setup and anchoring/ potential depths?
    Can't seem to catch a whitey and it has turned into what my friends call my white whale!

    • @justingirardfishing4266
      @justingirardfishing4266  5 лет назад

      Keith Sandford I went through the depths I target on the video. The key is to move around a lot and make small depth changes off a shoal. As far as anchoring , make sure you have lots of rope and attach at least 6 feet of chain at the end to your sand anchor. Point your nose into the wind and drop the anchor. As soon as it hit me the bottom , give it a few good tugs and then let out 10-20 feet more rope. I usually put the boat in reverse for a second to make sure the anchor grabs the bottom good and you should b well stationed.
      But I will try and do a quick video on anchoring . Thanks

      i would think it would, nippissing usually has a crazy may fly or shad fly hatch so thats when I would try this method! good luck, let me know if you do give it a try, would love to hear about it!

    a jig for weight on the bottom really?

    • @justingirardfishing4266
      @justingirardfishing4266  3 года назад

      ya I use a meegs for the bottom weight, its usually a 50/50 split on if they eat the bottom bait or top hook.

    Great video! Any chance you could show a chart (an example, not where you fish)showing what kind of shoal I should be looking for? How shallow is the shoal, how deep do the sides drop off to? Going to try jigging a Meegs and a high hook this weekend. Thanks

    Justin, I too was out there on Simcoe and I dialed my gen1 helix 5 to auctually see the midge flies making their way up from the bottom. I hiked up the sensitivity and changed the setting to ice fishing mode (which still works with the summer ducer) Check the helix5 pic at www.icatchadventures.com/fishing-lake-simcoes-midge-hatch-for-whitefish/

    • @justingirardfishing4266
      @justingirardfishing4266  3 года назад

      On simcoe you get a mix of fish that go shallow and deep. You can catch them in 10 feet all the way to 120 feet in the spring. I don't fish for them at night so can't say if the bite would be that good.

    How do whitefish move with water temp in spring and early summer?

    • @justingirardfishing4266
      @justingirardfishing4266  4 года назад

      they usually hang out in the winter location early spring until water temps get around 62-65 degrees then the move deep and are harder to target

    Don’t take this the wrong way, I love all your videos but it’s becoming clear it’s a very fine line you walk showing people how to catch fish and encouraging them to get out on the same lake, but then you start finding yourself getting crowded out by other anglers. It’s Something I noticed happening to another you tuber from Orillia. Hey guys look at all the fish I’m catching you should get out here and do it too, oh wait but now I’m getting surrounded by all these other fishermen. I wonder where they all came from! The lake becomes much smaller when there are thousands of people watching these videos and they all go out there at the same time trying to find your spot using nav.

    • @justingirardfishing4266

      Stu art I don’t mind people fishing the same areas as me, there’s no secret spots on simcoe, however, leaving a little more than 20 feet between me and the next guy would be appreciated. People think there’s only fish below my boat. Trust me, it’s part of the game doing videos and I knew that going in, I’m allowed to bitch about it once in a while but it’s never going to change anything

    • @stuart2970
      @stuart2970 4 года назад +1

      Justin Girard Fishing yep with all the urban area around the lake you can never really expect to find a spot all to yourself, but if they really came within 20ft in a boat especially, that’s way too close with everything moving around in the waves unless it’s a friend coming up to say hi! I’m actually a little surprised how respectful some people have been this hard water season when it’s a busy weekend and you are trying to fish a sweet spot picked out on nav ahead of time it’s nice to see people not set up right on top of you and try close but not right on top. Like you said plenty of fish, and not just one spot is good, it can be an entire area.

    • @justingirardfishing4266

      Stu art I wish I could say the same for ice but it’s not the case!lol! I was drilling a few holes in a 50yard radius cause I hole hop an area and had a guy literally come fish the hole I just drilled as I was putting my auger down😂 I just asked if he needed to borrow my auger... oh well! That’s the way she goes sometimes out there! I appreciate the feedback btw . Thanks

      There’s no reason why a few more boats could not be in there working that spot I am sure you go to the mound at 85 ft sometimes when whites are hot the boats are all on top of each other.
