5th Gen 4Runner with KDSS showing that a 285/70-17 will NOT fit as a spare. The clearance is there when parked but it disappears when the suspension goes through its travel.
I run a Rigd ultraswing off road to have a full size. on road, I use the stock spare. no harm in having a smaller spare when on road in 2WD. eventually I plan to get the new Dissent Off Road rear bumper and tire carrier
One reason we went with a 275/70r17. Capable enough, fits well and doesn’t hang too low
