Also, in the traditional Rite, the priest is not allowed to use a microphone at the altar. Hence why it's hard to hear. An altar boy can hear everything and respond when necessary.
@86paul80 Yes. It can be self-serving or loud to the point of losing the context. The priest is standing before the Cross and preparing the Eternal Sacrifice. These prayers are meant to remind us of that.
Actually, these are part of the messa tridentina tradition. They are personal prayers from the priest, in which he apologises to God for not being worthy of celebrating the Eucharist (apologiae sacerdotis) and awaits His forgiveness before proceeding.
One time I had slept over a buddy’s house and I couldn’t for the life of me get any sleep. I hear his father come downstairs getting ready to go to work. Watching ceremonies like this is always so interesting to me! Almost every single aspect of this sort of thing, the clothes, the movements, the words, it’s all done to honor God, but the ceremony of it is completely made up by mankind, over the course of hundreds of even thousands of years. It’s such a fascinating concept to me. This is such a great loop, very relaxing.
I’m finding it fascinating listening to the vehicular activity, trying to determine if this is close to a busy intersection or Main Street. Sounds of trucks are predominant. These vehicular sounds are very relaxing for me.
If you're curious, the reason the priest has his fingers to thumb is because it touched the Communion, so in high or solemn mass it's considered to be graced with holy particulate. So to prevent the loss, he assumes this posture known as "canonical digits" to prevent particle loss until he washes his hands in holy water after Communion
As a traditional Catholic priest, I’m surprised the TLM made it into ASMR. That said, to be able to celebrate it everyday is my favourite thing in life.
I was raised Southern Baptist in Appalachia, but one of my best friends all through childhood was Catholic. My hometown was one of very few in the region with a significant Catholic population as well as a Catholic School. I have always admired their rituals and the liturgical nature of their services, because a lot of Protestants don't have rituals or anything like this. A lot of Protestants find ritual to be unnecessary and a limitation on how they want to pray or worship, and I never agreed with that sentiment. To have a set of prayers & rituals passed down for centuries still be performed regularly reminds me of how God never changes.

Also, in the traditional Rite, the priest is not allowed to use a microphone at the altar. Hence why it's hard to hear. An altar boy can hear everything and respond when necessary.
