Anything but. If you are buying a raspberry pi for HA, you have some knowledge. Why in the hell is there a history tutorial and intro to a raspberry pi.
Start with a wired connection, - check out this thread to enable wifi afterwards! - community.home-assistant.io/t/guide-connecting-pi-with-home-assistant-os-to-wifi-or-other-networking-changes/98768
Yes, you will need a dongle - I list the one I use in the video description and it allows for both Zigbee and Zwave in one dongle. - thanks for watching
hey mate, great video simple but very informative. ive just setup my 1st pi last week its a 5 4gb model. is there anyway to run home assistant and the normal pi os? ive got it running octoeverywhere on my bambu a1 at the moment. Cheers
Thanks - great to hear you have started with HA - I have not done this in a while - but yes it can be done - why don't you install the HA image on your pi, and then install octoeverywhere on that? might be easier to maintain. - thanks for watching, good luck with your project!
I've tried doing this process twice with the software loading the HA software to the SD card and finalizing it but when I plugged it to the monitor to see, nothing even came up, however trying to "burn" on the SD card another software like Raspberry PI's OS works fine, any ideas? Was really hoping to use my Raspberry PI 4 for a HA server.
Are you using the same SD card for the other OS? Very often there can be issues with SD cards - what are the lights on the PI doing when you boot HA, is there activity?
@@yoyoTechKnows Yes I'm using the same SD card for the other OS, it's a 16GB SD card. I don't see any activity on the PI (only the red power led turns on - speaking when it's loaded with HA). I think I'll give it a try with another SD card I have here and see if there's any difference.
@@SezarOroo I think another card might help - it does not sound like its booting at all off that card - you would see some lights etc if it was working - but something went wrong.
Wifi is a bit tricky - I would suggest starting with a wired connection, and then moving to wifi if you want - but.....HA is better if you keep it wired for max response time - thanks for watching!
The easiest way is with an ethernet cable - start with this if you can and it will just be plug and play. I don't include the wireless settings as it confuses and scares people off! - thanks for watching!
Nope. Like every RaspberryPi I’ve had, the micro sd that comes with is crap. Won’t even boot. I’ve never had a Pi project that just worked. This is no exception, unfortunately.
SD cards can be finicky - I have used an SSD setup with a raspberry pi before which worked great - but it was a little harder to setup - I would say for a first setup - just get a good quality SD card and you should be good - Amazon is your friend because if it doesn't work - send it back and try another. - thanks for watching!
Thanks for your fast and simple telling.
Thank you - I am glad you liked it!

This worked flawlessly for me (once I remembered to plug in the ethernet cable). I am shocked and surprised at how simple it was. Five stars!
Any update on how to add WiFi? Nothing seems to work for me. I’m using the raspberry pi 5 with home assistant 12.3. Won’t connect to WiFi at all.

@@yoyoTechKnows this link helped me out and I was able to connect to WIFI using the command line commands
Do we need a zigbee dongle for comnecting any zigbee sensors?

Il give it a try!
It’s a pretty easy setup - I will have some follow up’s with tips and tricks for automations!
Great video, worked straight off the bat, much appreciated.
Awesome - glad to hear you got it up and running easily! Check out my HA on Proxmox video to take it too the next level! - LOL! - thanks for watching!

Does not work as simply as you suggest. I have done the Pi bit and now booted it. I don't think that it is on the wifi for a start!
