I’ve met a couple of people that have claimed to have originated the first Rat Fink “ after “ my friend Ed “ Big Daddy “ Roth had passed away...they both had worked up ideas on the character with Ed back in the day. I don’t at all appreciate the way he was mentioned in this piece, and neither will anyone that knew him !
All this time, I thought a Rat Fink was like a D&D style monster. Only time I read it was in some book I read in middle school where the protagonist is about to get eaten by "a Rat Fink" and it was described as a hideous rat demon-thing. Cool to know the actual story :D
Ed The Hack Roth stole this idea from Stanley Miller, you can read about it in Art Chantry's great book - "The salesman always wins right?" - Miller went on to become an iconic poster artist while Hack Roth faded away.
Ok 1 I had to google who Stan miller was so “the hack” is a lot more prominent 2 if your talking about the mouse, I see 2 similarity’s, it’s a mouse and a caricature. 3 a quick google search will show that he worked with Ed Roth in 58 so yeah some things may be similar, 4 I haven’t been able to find any books by art chantry besides some people can’t surf and art chantey speaks, so stay mad and put some respect on Ed Roth’s name
Mickey mouse put numerous smiles on kids faces over the years . I don,t see why the Rat Fink should undermine that . i like the Rat fink but never new it was riding on the Disney characters . If you are a senior hot rodder somehow i don,t see how you wearing a Rat Fink T shirt meant you were anti Mickey Mouse
Ahhhhhhhhh. To grow up in California in the 60’s and 70’s. Must have been heaven. Being an East Coaster I always thought this

@@justted1335 don’t forget the 40s and 50s also

That's awesome!
I always wondered what rat fink was from
Once Herman Munster called himself "Rat Fink" too. So what's it really translate to?
I think it roughly translates to:
Wait for it…
Rat Fink
@@camwillwin Everything had a different meaning in the 60s. "Chingaling" meant "f you". Rat Fink probably meant Rat Bastard or something.
