That Greek performance sums up why Southgate played pragmatic, safe football for his whole tenure: England is okay at best. There's only so many times you benefit from amazing cup draws when the player's football IQ is very average. The problem remains the same since 1966: too much reliance on players producing individual moments of brilliance to carry the team. And where's the next Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick to fix the midfield? I'm amazed Angel Gomes didn't play a single minute. He has to play.
dont forget greece scored 5 times against England yesterday! The greek national team has found its way back to be fully competitive against top notch teams since 2004.
Greece is a strong team Drew with france and spain Only lost to Netherlands to a fake late penalty and bad refereing Lost to Germany on a late stoppage time goal And ofcourse beat England now we are a strong team dont mistake current greece for the pre 2022 greece that couldnt defeat feroe islands

last night at Wembley felt like a fever dream watching Palmer play defensive midfield - hopefully that proves to our fans tho that trying to shoehorn in saka, foden, jude and palmer into the same team doesn't work
You English people focus on the wrong words when judging results. You call it 'Performance'. This can mean anything, from technical skills, to injuries, to tactics. You will never solve your problem until you define it with the right word. You are lucking one thing 'Dynamism/Intencity'. This should be the second pillar of the coach's concern. Love from Greace.
I felt a bit sorry for Watkins. So long in Kane's shadow (and I love Kane), did well at the Euros when called upon, should have had an opportunity to start against Greece, and instead Carsley tries this ridiculous experiment for a Nations League game in October. Work on that in the month leading up to a tournament. He took a gamble that he really didn't need to; roll the dice after you've got the job. We have got to stop cramming in all the top attacking players. France, Brazil, Spain... they have no problem having big players on the bench. England really need to grow up. To be fair to Carsley, Southgate suffered bigger losses in the Nations League. But this next game is massive now.
My line up would be GK: Jordan Pickford RB: Kyle Walker CB: John Stones CB: Levi Colwill LB: Tino Livramemto DM: Declan Rice CM: Jude Bellingham CM: Angel Gomes RW: Cole Palmer ST: Harry Kane (If fit, otherwise Watkins) LW: Noni Madueke
Love your content, by the way! Just wanted to share my 2 cents: I thought Greece were brilliant; probably their best performance versus a top 5 team in a long time, if ever. England were always going to be challenged with their physicality and discipline despite their talent. The call would have been for a more balanced 11 with more midfield control to come out with a win. However, I have to give it to Cars for trying the fantasy football team many have been screaming for, not because of them of course, but to see, given his attacking philosophy, if he could make it work. It obviously didn’t. And the players themselves, I fully agree, have a part to play with subpar performances from almost everyone, even Pickford. It almost felt like they believed the hype the media has placed on them. The onus is on the entire team to bounce back from this in the Finland match.
@@ChannelEnglandFootballCEF It won't be a good look if England preform like that on Sunday but at least Greece is for sure the strongest opponent in our group
That was a tactical disasterclass We were an absolute embarrassment if that was Southgate everyone would be ripping him to shreds the same energy on Carsley please
Carsley is a nice guy and that is good enough for him to be England's manager. People say England should have a winner. WHY? England never wins anything and all the fans are okay with that. We want a nice manager.
Honestly I think Carsley has already single handily costed us promotion back to league A with his idiotic and needless gamble. Even if we somehow beat Greece away I still think we come second in the group due to Greece’s better GD. The fact that Carsley only practiced this tactic for 20 mins and decided to gamble with experimentations against the toughest opponent we can face in our nations league group is absolutely disgraceful and mental. Like the risks are just not worth it. Idk where he could have gotten so much confidence from cause in all honesty our two previous games under him in my opinion were already mediocre at best so him being cocky like this is really baffling. I’m honestly really surprised how Carsley didn’t consider what Southgate did from our Euro campaign QF onwards playing a 3-4-2-1 as that was how we could fit everyone in and was the only time we could say England performed much better. The fact that what he actually came up with to try fit everyone in by dropping our striker is some of the worst football management ever seen. Watkins Palmer Foden Lewis Bellingham Rice Saka Guehi Stones Trent This is what I would have liked to see what we did against Greece but he came up with something absolutely shite where our player had no idea how to play in resulting in shit play and no team cohesion. It’s honestly Southgate all over again but somehow even worse. We cannot let him take the rains for England full time otherwise we can say goodbye to even qualifying for the 2026 WC. Honestly the FA needs to get their heads out of their arses and start looking for an actual manager that can make the basics work at least b4 starting getting more complex in tactics.
@@encorefootball I honestly wouldn’t be confident in being able to win that tbh. This is the much safer way for promotion and we’ve already bottled it hard.

@ΝικοςΜουστακαλης-λ1θ mate England were terrible. England should be beating Greece at home every day of the week. Greece were brilliant, England were just as bad, though, and have been for months. Iceland have beat us this year as well. Don't overestimate one result. All teams loose games, talent between the teams is night and day. You played England at a good time. 100% this
Well it should work no 4 in the world rankings and players worth millions making enough money after a month to buy a house
unfortunately it shouldn't work though - it's too attacking and we are too exposed defensively as proved by Greece dominating
Well said players need a shake up even though Carsley shouldn't have played like that players need to take responsibility as well
